Dull, but serviceable. drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 5, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

Easy access from I-35 exit 18 if you want to stretch your legs for half an hour.

Unlikely to be crowded.

Parking ought to be easy except when church in use.

Cons:

Mundane. It's nine baskets scattered about a field with a few trees in play. Wind provided a little challenge.

No pads, just throw from near prior basket, which is no big deal.

Some of the baskets a little malformed, perhaps from vandalism, but still usable.

Other Thoughts:

Park behind church. Start area is along northern edge of field.

You'd have to be quite unlucky, but there is an opportunity to lose a disc into a storm drain near the #4 basket.

If I lived in the area, I'd play it, but this course is certainly not worth the trip if you have other options closer to you.

We drove through the little town and it's as dull as the disc gold course. Most interesting thing we saw was an hundred-year-old abandoned creamery.

Baskets on a field 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 14, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Baskets
-Clean place with nice grass
-Nobody ever plays here
-Good for practicing and making up Safari holes which are only slightly more fun than attempting to play the actual course

Cons:

-No tees
-No trees
-No elevation
-Just a plain open field with a bunch of scattered baskets. Whoever thought buying 9 baskets to put into this open field was a good idea is probably crazy.
-There just really isn't anything good to say about this course from a disc golfing perspective.

Other Thoughts:

Don't waste your time with this course unless it is in your backyard. Even if it is you should drive down to Albert Lea to play any of the 45 better holes that they have there. These baskets should be removed and put anywhere else along with some semblance of a tee and the course would be much improved. But really, don't waste your time playing here.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 30, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Great course for practice. I use as a warm up course.
It would be very difficult to lose a disc.
Can play a round in 30 min or less

Cons:

No Tee's, If it's windy it's rough since there aren't any trees.
Also there are some guys that practice archery from their back porch so watch out for arrows.

Wide open 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 22, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

It exists. An ok place to practice approaches and putts, I could accomplish the same thing by placing my portable basket in an open field and throwing at it from 9 different angles.

Not Crowded. I had this course to myself, and don't foresee huge crowds gathering here.

Ace Opportunities. Every hole has an easy ace run.

Can't lose a disc. Wide open, well maintained, clean course.

Quick round. I grabbed only my putter and was done in less than 20 minutes.

Navigation. Baskets are easy to find with large yellow numbers indicating which basket to throw at.

Beginner Friendly. For the reasons mentioned, this may be an ok place to come as a beginner to work on wide open approaches without having to worry about hitting trees or losing a disc.

Cons:

Variety. None, every hole is exactly the same +/- 50 feet, no line shaping required. The various young trees provide no challenge, even 20 years from now when they're large trees, the baskets are placed so there won't be any challenge, they could have created some kind of variety by placing some trees in the line.

Home made baskets. These are the same baskets found at Bancroft bay 18 hole course in Albert Lea. Solid construction, nice catching ability, nice and visible - but they chew up your discs, sharp edges with gouge the crap out of your disc if you hit it with any more force than a 10 foot putt.

No Tees. 9 baskets randomly spread out through the area have no specific tee off area, I suppose you could make up your own safari course, or I teed up from behind the previous hole's basket.

Boring. 9 holes crammed into a small wide open area makes for a very boring course, the only benefit would be as a local to have some targets to aim at to practice putting and approaches.

Other Thoughts:

A simple straightforward pitch and putt course, if you're looking for putting practice, a pull in off the freeway provides a very quick 9 holes, not worth going out of the way for.
