Pros: The is the easiest of the Bakersfield 7 and therefore the perfect choice to bring that 9 year old or the newbie. The course was made for those types of players...and guys like me looking for ACES!
San Laurel Park is a small (probably 1 city block x 2 city blocks) little neighborhood park. It has lots of small trees recently planted. As they grow, they will provide more challenge/interest to this course. The park has a children's play area, parking lot, bathrooms and a BB court.

For a Boy Scout project, I thought the lads did an excellent job. The baskets are Innova DISCatchers with the yellow bands. There are no signs but they're really not needed on a course this small. The tee pads are very small (3' x 5') concrete except for the # 8 pad, it's even smaller. The pads have the hole # and a directional arrow pointing at the basket engraved in the concrete. These tiny pads don't provide any run-up but at least you can stand on them and throw. Probably only # 2 could even need a run up and it's probably only about 240'.
Cons: I wish the pads were just a little bigger. The trees will grow and increase the challenge factor. If you think this course is too easy, then graduate up to City In The Hills or Silver Creek or Riverview or Kern River. There's lots of choices around here.
Other Thoughts: I've played maybe five Boy Scout project courses and San Laurel Park DGC is probably the most well made. It's also an excellent Beginner course. Right now, it's a little boring but as the trees grow, I think the course will become a tad bit more challenging.

Bakersfield has this nice range of courses stair stepping up in nice increments, from the very easy Pitch & Putt beginner course here at San Laurel to the brutally hard physical challenge of Shark Tooth Mountain.

From Easy to Hard:

San Laurel Park
City In The Hills
Silver Creek Park
Kern River Park
Riverview Park
Suicide Flats
Shark Tooth Mountain

Bakersfield disc golfers have a nice variety of courses to choose from, with two easy beginner courses, one slightly harder beginner course, two intermediate courses and then two courses that will challenge anyone.

Pros: The course is easy to access (especially now that Mohawk now goes all the way through). Very easy to navigate...no way to get lost and extremely easy to find the next tee...even with so many pins all in the same tiny park...the flow is obvious. Locals were super friendly and helpful. Hole 2 is fairly long...probably 315 or so...plays longer due to having to go around the trees. The rest of the holes are pretty much ace runs with a few obstacles.
Cons: The park plays a little close to the street and park. Looks like they moved 7 as it had shot by the pavilion...that was a good move for the safety of the park. There is a playground in the middle but it is easily avoidable. Really the only major con is just it is so short and only 9 predictable pins with very little shade.
Other Thoughts: I will definitely be back...very fun little course...the perfect place to practice hyzer lines. I heard it is normally a little busier than it was today so that could potentially be a problem...but it wasn't any issue while I was there.

Mini 9 - Ace Runs Galore

Pros: Ace runs on every hole, regardless of throwing style. Hole 2 was a little longer (maybe 250'). Some holes had mini cement tees (4' long x 3' wide) with the hole number and an arrow showing the direction to the basket scratched into the cement (was done when it was still wet). Holes without these "mini tees" had a blob of cement in the ground at the tee location with the aforementioned details scratched into it. Some trees to shoot around on a few holes. Well maintained park with facilities on site. Low traffic.
Cons: Extremely short and easy. The "mini tees" don't really work as tees, even if you throw from a standstill. The course plays around a playground and some baskets are really close to it. The whole park area is very small and completely open with only a small amount of younger trees. Some holes play quite close to one another and to the roads surrounding the park. The basket on hole 6 is now missing it's top ring and all of it's chains, leaving only the straight metal pole and bottom basket. Poor layout; could have been done better even with the small area available.
Other Thoughts: This is a course for absolute beginners, maybe even only children beginners, but could be used as a good putting warm-up for the more challenging courses in the area. I don't know what the designer was thinking with the tiny tees, but simple signs and no cement would be more useful. If there were any children playing on the playground conservative shots would be necessary on a few holes. Hole 6 is still "playable" with no chains on the basket, but aces are nearly impossible.

Pros: -Nice baskets
-Great uber-beginner course or ace run course
Cons: No tee signs, the tee boxes aren't really tee boxes, I think they are kind of supposed to be signs/boxes but they don't really work for either.
Other Thoughts: To me it was a waste of resources, but the boy scouts ponied up and put it in which is cool for them. I just wish they picked a better location and ask the local pros for help designing it. If you are reading this then you're into disc golf enough that you shouldn't go to this "course". Go to riverview just about 2-5 miles away.

Pros: Lots of ace runs. Great for working on your up shots. I like it because it is a good place to take new players to teach them and build their confidence. My fiance loves it cause she can shoot under here, lol.
Cons: Tee blocks are a joke.
Other Thoughts: Fun for kids and beginners, Also fun for advanced players to practice short game and have some fun ace runs

Pros: Lit up at night until park closes at 10. No other Bakersfield course has this. Great for working on your short game at night when it's cooler. Easy to find tees and baskets.
Cons: VERY short course. Experienced players will probably tee off with a putter on all holes but 2. Tiny tees.

Pros: Every hole is an ace run. This course is good for beginners. Its a good course to work on your short game. It has nice restrooms and drinking fountains.
Cons: Too easy. All you need is a putter, maybe an approach disc. This course is not challenging at all. Another Bakersfield course built by someone who has never played disc golf.

Pros: Good for a beginner. Park has been empty the 4 times I've played here. New, Clean bathrooms, picnik area.
Cons: Short, Very short. A couple of holes cross over each other.
Other Thoughts: From the parking lot, Tee #1 it to the left of the restrooms, just past table. There are numerous small trees that will grow into quit a challenge with time. the course has been re-configured, since it was originally built. They moved three holes, two of which were the longest on the course. why I do not understand.
