Well groomed course with a fairly "pedestrian" front 9 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 26, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Plenty of parking at both 9's
- bathrooms were nice and right by first hole
- super well groomed course, grass was green and perfectly cut, park is very picturesque
- baskets caught easily, brand new ones on the back 9. No spit outs or rust or anything unsavory.
- Nice to have a couple par 4's mixed in there
- fun top of the world shot on #6 with lots of danger on the right
- back 9 was great tight woods golf, only a couple of 300+ holes and the rest were short and technical. Rarely an obvious line to park it but a straightforward line to get to c2. Great risk /reward. Good rough to punish bad shots.
- front 9 And back 9 plus hole 8 were totally different vibes and played like 2 different courses.
- #7 was my favorite hole, blind tee shot over a swamp to a tight guarded green
- didn't lose any discs despite the woods surrounding most holes
- great difficulty, some challenges for players of all skill and some short enough holes that a true beginner could park with a lucky shot.
- super short walks and fairly intuitive layout on the back 9 make for easy navigation

Cons:

- #4 is a hazard for cars and walkers, plays right down the busiest walking path in the park. It's an awesome hole though.
- #1 is the only true gimme birdie on the course, no obstacles whatsoever and a straight 200 ft shot.
- Walk between #7 and #8 along with #9 to #10 is crazy long, both 1000+ ft.
- back 9 is not groomed at all, super tall grass and really thick rough.
- lots of walkers and park goers on front 9, didn't see any on back 9 thank God but the holes are so packed in that pretty much anyone being there would be dangerous.
- barbed wire fences, thick rough and park boundaries make for high disc losing potential on the back 9.
- #1, #2, #3, #5, and #9 are all kind of duds. Just wide open holes that are straight at the basket with minimal obstacles.
- I saw between 2 and 4 tee signs on this 18 hole course. Without the udisc map there is no possible way to navigate it.

Other Thoughts:

There's a lot of good and bad here but overall had a blast playing this short course with no OB's or Mandies. Very scorable for a player with consistency and a decent arm. Easy to park and play but probably don't go at a peak time when non golfers are in the park. I went on a Sunday morning and all the sprinklers we're going which was a bummer. Loved the woods holes though and I think with a more creative front 9 and tee signs this could be a 3.5 or. 4.

Front & Back nine very different 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 29, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Nice to have different styles to front & back 9.
Front 9 nice warm-up with some longer open shots, but not much challenge for experienced players.
Back nine plays through a wooded area, need some technical ability to make par.
Baskets & tee pads are nice.

Cons:

Back nine can become flooded when river levels are high, making 17 & 18 unplayable.
Front 9 could be difficult to play if the park is crowded on the weekend.

Other Thoughts:

Worth a stop to play the course in the summer if you're traveling through the area.

Finally Upgraded! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 17, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Finally Has 18 Baskets and full concrete teepads on each! Only finished course in the Flathead Valley. Great local club and league play. Flathead Valley Disc Golf Club is amazing!

Cons:

Course is on a very popular public park. It can, at least every now and then, be crowded on a few of the holes during peak summer hours.

A bit of a disappointment 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 28, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The front nine runs through a pretty, well kept park. The grass was watered and mowed and the baskets are in good condition.A couple of holes with some challenge - one over a pod (I went around since I didn't have a retriever with me) and one through a narrow tunnel in thick woods.

Cons:

The "2" rating is generous if you consider the whole course. There were several tee posts missing and the pads were hard to find. The back nine is nearly a 1/4 mile walk away and the term "tone poles" is generous. It also runs through a park with a playground nearby and I had to skip several holes for safety.

Other Thoughts:

Since the last reviews were two years old I thought the course would have improved. Evidently the park department has not yet seen fit to invest any further. I was glad I didn't go to the trouble to pack my whole disc bag for my trip to the area. There is no map on the site listed. At least i can add another state to my play list.

Great course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 4, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Long open front 9. Short wooded back 9. Very diverse. Keeps getting better; the front 9 all has baskets now, but the back 9 is still tones.

Cons:

Some tee signs keep getting busted off by idiots, even though they are metal and welded on. The tee boxes are established, but eroding due to lack of pads.

Other Thoughts:

look up the map and pars before you go.

Keeps getting better 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 16, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The Parks and Rec. department is slowly making improvements to course as funds become available. In the future it should be a legit, tournament ready course. Overall, a fun mix of long, open shots with short, tight shots in the back. Challenging for beginners but not super easy for expert.

Cons:

Dirt tee pads get muddy after rain/snow. Sometimes crowded with other players and other park users, most often on really nice sunny days. No elevation, except on #6.

Other Thoughts:

For a local park course it is very good. Tests players' abilities with a multitude of different shots over the 18.

Beautiful course with a lot of potential 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 16, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

It has a very nice front nine, with very wide and open holes followed by one over the water shot. First five holes have Discatchers and one Mach 3, then it has a change to totem poles. The back nine is a nice trick shot course, and very short. Overall it has a very nice mix of holes from short tree infested holes, to over water shots, to long 100 feet drop tee shots.

Cons:

They are just starting to get in directions for the holes, so if your not a local, it maybe hard to find where the tees go to. The Tee's are just dirt with a dirt inlay, but some are just getting markers for distance. The back nine has no tee boxes and barely any markings for where the "dirt" is aiming towards. No baskets in the back nine, but only totem poles.

Other Thoughts:

It has improved greatly ever since the very first time this course was created. Once The course gets more baskets add it could have a lot of potential. A very nice little local course.

Great local course in the making 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 2, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Nice new front nine with a vary of course types, long drives and tree shots, with one swamp shot makes it a great front, the back it only dingers with shorted distances, more of a trick shot/ace area, but great none the less with much foliage and obstacles.

Cons:

Front nine has teepad about to be put in, wood framing is there but he ground is not covered with rubber, concrete, etc. More baskets are in the making, but funding from local businesses is what the baskets are relying on.

Other Thoughts:

Overall a great course to play, i do almost every day. Almost a compete change is preferred disks for the front and back, very different courses. come try it out, give some feedback, make disc golf available for every disc golfer.

Improved! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 29, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Baskets are now DisCatcher 3 chain models on 1st 5 holes(with 1 Mach 3) and tone poles on last 4. Nice park layout with a couple of longer holes and a couple that a bad shot puts you in a swamp. fairly open but they put challenge in where they could.

Cons:

Grass tees that are only marked by a stick with the number. No signs or numbers on pins or any indication where next tee is. would not want to play w/o local help first time. Depends on distance for much of challenge on holes. Looks like park can be busy.

Other Thoughts:

Not a bad park course. Locals I played with(thanks Nick!) say the back 9 is in but very rough and didn't have time to show me. Don't know if home made baskets ended up there or not. Still room for improvement but that seems to be ongoing. Will be curious to see it again in a year.

Hard choice between 1.5 and 2 rating, might have rated lower if there was anywhere else to play in area. That and it was a pleasant place to throw a few holes and was not a birdiefest. :)

needs lots of work 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 21, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course has potential. Most holes have open shots. It isn't to hard to find and there are limited courses in the area.

Cons:

The homemade baskets are terrible. They don't hold discs. The tee pads are very small (maybe 18 inches by 3 feet). It is not well marked on where tee pads are or which baskets to shoot at.

Other Thoughts:

If they set up a map on where the holes are on a bulletin board it would make it easier. The baskets need one more ring on the catcher to stop disc from going through. I also think there is nine holes in the woods here. I didn't have time to check it out but the other player there said there were markings on trees to shoot at.

Lots of issues, but I guess it's a start. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 13, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

Wide open course, easy parking, not much traffic.

Cons:

Baskets are homemade and hard to keep discs in.
Course extremely poorly marked.
Tees are short.
Signage completely absent.

Other Thoughts:

The biggest emotion I had at this course was frustration. In the end, I found 7 of the 9 baskets that I believe are out here. I found three tees only. I started from a tee near the parking lot, which I assume made it number one. I couldn't figure out which basket to play, so I played one that seemed to be in the direction of the tee. However, it was about 500 feet away, which was inconsistent with the rest of the course. I found a couple of tees following the next few holes, but could only really guess at where I was supposed to be going. I ended up playing four holes, in generally random order, and then driving around and seeing 3 other baskets. I am not sure if I just couldn't find the other two, or, if they are missing. There is a nice picnic type covered area right next to the parking lot. It would be nice if someone was able to put up some sort of information, or map, of the course there. The baskets, shown in the picture, are shallow and a little bit hard to putt into, but hey, at least someone made an effort. The park has potential, but certainly needs a lot of work.
