Odd little place 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 11, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

For lacking so much in amenities, several holes are still decent quality. Tunnel shots on 3 and 7, 6 tucked behind a big evergreen, 5's shape is a really tough birdie.

Just by looking at the design of the basket you can tell you're going to need to put a little more juice on your putt. I didn't have any issues with these and found it kind of interesting to use some baskets that weren't professional level.

A few of the greens have a little danger, 2 is on a little rise in the ground, and 6 has some brush right behind it that is just thin enough to get a missed putt to go into, but is impossible to get out of accurately.

Aside from a few spots, navigation is a breeze.

If you were camping at the park, you could start the course at hole 1, 2, 5, or 6 depending on where you were coming from, and then end your round right at the same spot.

Cons:

The obvious ones: no tee pads or tee areas, no signage, no signs pointing you to the course, etc, etc...

Some of these holes are insanely short. 1, 8, and 9 are all in the 150-175 range and are also fairly open and bland.

Poor spots of navigation:
- At hole 1 (basket 9) you can see 2 baskets (1 and 8, obviously). Problem is, you can't tell which you're supposed to throw to as both number plates on top are facing away from you. (It's the one to the left, btw)
- At hole 2 you can see the baskets of both 2 and 4. Number plates are once again hard to see, but if you're short enough to see under the branches, you can see that 2 is the one on the right.

Hole 4 would take an insane amount of luck to get to the green in one. Too many trees in the way.

Leaves build up in the baskets since they are solid... plastic/rubber?

Other Thoughts:

It seems that the course is only officially open when the camp manager is there. I just parked by the gate and walked the 1000 feet to the course.

Your disc makes a nice thump when it falls into the basket.

Overall, this isn't a great course. It holds some fun holes, but I personally wouldn't pay to play here when 44% of the holes are just dead boring.

Small, challenging course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 9, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Tight course, easy designs, great for short game work.

Cons:

No need to take your driver out of your bag. Homeade baskets, no launch pads, poor signage.

Other Thoughts:

Fun little course that would be great for beginners or fun place to take the kids to play. It would be great if they had a sign with a course map and course rules.

Basket to Basket – Hole to Hole 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 26, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course has a couple tree tunnel shots, some wide-open holes and uses a nice small piece of land to make the course somewhat interesting. This place has restrooms just up the hill from course. Navigating the holes once you find #2 basket is a no brainer. Basically just stay out of the woods for the first 2 holes and you can find your way the rest of the way.

Cons:

#1 tee is played from the #9 basket. Then you play basket to basket from there on out. There are no tee signs or tee pads. The homemade baskets are OK, but after throwing some warm up putts, I notice they can produce some bounce outs, as the chains are close to the edge of the plastic basket. (see course photos) It's best to putt very firm to make sure the disc has a good chance of dropping in. There were no trashcans in the course area.

Other Thoughts:

The Fun Factor was not really there for me on this one. There were 2 holes that I enjoyed throwing on, but the thrill of wanting to throw even more tee shots was not there. There were a few good holes due to the design and use of the land. I think they would have gotten further, if they had put the money they should have toward it the first time. This is a multi-use camping and park, so it is not that bad for a start up.

Had a good time 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 17, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Cute little short course, trees were in play on most holes but since the course is so short hitting a tree is'nt punishing. Very nice area with restrooms and on a winter afternoon very peaceful. Left me wanting more holes. If you were staying in the large campground it would be a perfect little diversion.

Cons:

Lack of tee boxes and short distances. Had to park outside the camp grounds and walk past several signs saying "area closed".

Other Thoughts:

My favorite hole was probably #3 with it's apparently newly planted trees leaving you a dead straight fairway about 4 feet wide.

Smithville Trial Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 14, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Course setup to guage initial disc golf response from the northlanders. Permanemt course slated for South side of lake. This is a fun little course, very good use of surrounding area and terrain.

Cons:

No t-pads yet...play from basket to basket.

Other Thoughts:

Find myself wanting to play this every chance I get...stay tunes for more info and pics. Want to make it 18 holes? Play #1 to #9 then do in reverse (as long as no one is behind you!)
