Small, challenging course

6/10/2012Pros: Tight course, easy designs, great for short game work.
Cons: No need to take your driver out of your bag. Homeade baskets, no launch pads, poor signage.
Other Thoughts: Fun little course that would be great for beginners or fun place to take the kids to play. It would be great if they had a sign with a course map and course rules.

Basket to Basket – Hole to Hole 
Pros: This course has a couple tree tunnel shots, some wide-open holes and uses a nice small piece of land to make the course somewhat interesting. This place has restrooms just up the hill from course. Navigating the holes once you find #2 basket is a no brainer. Basically just stay out of the woods for the first 2 holes and you can find your way the rest of the way.
Cons: #1 tee is played from the #9 basket. Then you play basket to basket from there on out. There are no tee signs or tee pads. The homemade baskets are OK, but after throwing some warm up putts, I notice they can produce some bounce outs, as the chains are close to the edge of the plastic basket. (see course photos) It's best to putt very firm to make sure the disc has a good chance of dropping in. There were no trashcans in the course area.
Other Thoughts: The Fun Factor was not really there for me on this one. There were 2 holes that I enjoyed throwing on, but the thrill of wanting to throw even more tee shots was not there. There were a few good holes due to the design and use of the land. I think they would have gotten further, if they had put the money they should have toward it the first time. This is a multi-use camping and park, so it is not that bad for a start up.

Had a good time Pros: Cute little short course, trees were in play on most holes but since the course is so short hitting a tree is'nt punishing. Very nice area with restrooms and on a winter afternoon very peaceful. Left me wanting more holes. If you were staying in the large campground it would be a perfect little diversion.
Cons: Lack of tee boxes and short distances. Had to park outside the camp grounds and walk past several signs saying "area closed".
Other Thoughts: My favorite hole was probably #3 with it's apparently newly planted trees leaving you a dead straight fairway about 4 feet wide.

Smithville Trial Course
Pros: Course setup to guage initial disc golf response from the northlanders. Permanemt course slated for South side of lake. This is a fun little course, very good use of surrounding area and terrain.
Cons: No t-pads yet...play from basket to basket.
Other Thoughts: Find myself wanting to play this every chance I get...stay tunes for more info and pics. Want to make it 18 holes? Play #1 to #9 then do in reverse (as long as no one is behind you!)
