Leaves me Flat 
Pros: Note: Sometime after I played here in Nov '09 five holes have been removed and all have been renumbered. This will cause some differences between the layout I played and the current configuration.
*Multiple tees- there are 3 sets of tees that will cater to multiple skill levels.
*Water- Stoney Creek plays all down the right side of hole 18, but it's the only water on the course.

Cons: -There are some really long walks to the next tee. The walk from the 16th basket to the 17th tee was at least 800 ft, but there were also long walks to tee 7 and tee 9.
-Tee signs: only very basic posts
-Tees: dirt but they are level. They're marked by angled and partially buried cinder blocks.
-Navigation: since there are no numbers on the partially buried cinder blocks, and with up to 3 sets on each hole it can get confusing to figure where the appropriate tee is. But there are "Next tee" signs that help.
-It could be really muddy and soggy after a rain.

Other Thoughts: On my rating scale I rated the course 3.5 out of 10, (that equals a 1.75 on DGCR), so I'm torn between two ratings.
Course Level: White (most suited for Intermediate players rated 900.)
*Flat- this can't be changed, but the course is totally flat, except for a 2 ft drop on hole 1. There was also one elevated basket for some artificial height.
*Fairway design- there were 2 holes with 90 degree "L bends". Your enjoyment will depend if you like a different style of hole like this or if you find them too quirky. Personally I like them, in moderation.
*Terrain variety- the layout I played was mostly open on the front 9 with only some scattered trees, and mostly wooded on the back 9.
*The course is still new, so there are very few amenities. Hopefully someday they'll get a map, score cards, warm up basket, and perhaps even a restroom and some benches.
If they improve the signs, the tees, and add some amenities the rating could easily go up. As it was, my enjoyment level was as flat as the terrain, so this wasn't a course that I feel drawn back to play again.

Report this Review Keep Driving to Kinston 
Pros: New course with nice Discatcher baskets, front 9 is a nice open park with great old growth trees. Back 9 is back into some nice woods. Multiple tees in most holes. Elevated basket on hole 5. The park is pretty easy to find but Google maps makes it look like it is on the opposite side of the road. First 6 holes flow reasonably well.
Cons: Signage. There are very few signs, especially after hole 5. At least half of the course gets VERY muddy so not a course I'd play after a rainy month. Some holes on the back completely submerged. Gets confusing as to what hole to throw to in quite a few spots. Natural tees that are marked by concrete blocks, hard to spot since they're everywhere due to the 3 sets of tees on most holes. Parts of the course look like it used to have trailers on it because of all the concrete blocks. Back 9 is very confusing, I felt like I was in a scene from Apocalypse Now trying to navigate it.
Other Thoughts: The first hiccup comes on hole 6, the basket for which lays out of sight to the left, not straight ahead as it seems. To find hole 9 you have to follow the tractor tire tracks up the dirt trail. Swing a right after hole 10 to get to 11. After that, you'll need to hire a sherpa to navigate the rest. A good canoe is vital to scoring well on the back 9. This won't be a bad course if they put in some signage, lay down better tees and work on drainage problems, but if you're in the area, you're better off driving to Kinston.

Pros: very open on the front 9 holes,i enjoy playing this course, 3 tees for every hole
that are challenging at all levels

Cons: look out for # 14 on the back can't wait for the tee boxes to be fiinshed.also kind of wet when it rains.really does need the markers for yardage and par markers
Other Thoughts: i really enjoy playing this course, i can't wait for the fall time to hit some some of the tree will losse there leaves

The potential for greatness 
Pros: Good lengthy holes. "Greens around the hole" give you a feeling that its a gimme putt. Front 9 provides some open holes that are forgiving on mis throws. Back 9 is a little tighter, some shots being very technical. Three sets of tees for every hole.
Cons: Course is very flat and still 'under construction'. Once it gets settled in a little it can be great. The course may be a little difficult to navigate until it is finished. Also, there is little to no signage or footage marked on the course. No concrete pads.
Other Thoughts: As an 18-hole course, this is brand new. This shows on the back 9 and on the lack of certain features (footage, signs, directions). There is really no out-of-bounds, but a creek can come into play on hole 18. It may be a good idea to play the course through from the recreation tees (the shortest tees) because of the blind shots. The 3.5 is earned based on layout (could be higher when the course is settled in and has more signs, etc.).

Pros: Wide variety of shots with a lot of hidden baskets. Open front 9 with the back going deep into the woods. Lenghty holes that reach up to close to 600'. Modification of the course sets up very nicely.
Cons: No Signs and not a lot of people out there. Some holes intertwine on the back nine which can get confusing for some.
Other Thoughts: Still needs to be broken in more and a bunch of newbs. Any players around the area can try this course out and set a course record.
