It's with a golf course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 28, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course is on the same property as a ball golf course. It wraps around the property, but doesn't share land with the golf course. It uses the available land very well, putting elevation and vegetation into play. It's not a super difficult course, but it is more challenging course than it first appears when looking at the property.

Cons:

The grass at the course is pretty tall, where there is grass. It is not manicured at all like the ball golf course.
Navigation is a bit difficult, there is no map on site nor on DGCR.

Other Thoughts:

It looks like the ball golf course clubhouse is closed during the winter. So it looked like that meant free ball golf for peeps that wanted to play. That's pretty crazy.

Hot and Mostly Open 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 14, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Nice baskets that are in great shape and catch well
-Tee sets of tees on each hole (an AM tee and a PRO tee).
-The tee-signs are good and give you a good view of the layout of the hole, with distance and par on it.
-3 or 4 holes have nice elevation change (7 is a fun top of the world type hole).
-Has a decent amount of distance with a lot of holes over 350 or more.
-Pretty easy to navigate (the only hard navigation point is hole 15 to 16 you have to head left from the basket across a golf green a little to find the next tee-pad).
-There are benches on a few holes
-A couple of the holes make pretty good use of the available obstacles.
-Since the course is pretty wide open, the wind will definitely come into play on many of the holes.

Cons:

-Both sets of tee-pads are all dirt and some of the tee-pads are badly rutted.
-Very little shade on this course and it can get quite hot out there.
-AM tee-pads really aren't much different than pros (they are usually just shorter than the PRO tee-pad).
-Tee-signs for 15 and 17 are missing.
-Quite a few of the holes on this course start to feel quite repetitive.
-Lots of the holes are fairly wide open with not too many obstacles (the back 9 are definitely a lot more open than the front nine).
-This course gets overgrown with lots of itchy grass and yucca.
-None of the holes are very memorable.
-The course is not super challenging
-A few safety issues (There are a few holes near the road. The hole route shown on hole 10's tee-sign has you throwing over a road, Hole 15 is near the edge of the ball golf driving range).

Other Thoughts:

This course is nothing memorable and gets a little boring fast, but there are not many other options to play in this part of the state until you hit Santa Fe.

Wind and dust 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 19, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-The course is located in the middle of Las Vegas, with quick and easy access to I25.
-only saw two other disc golfers both times I was there
-Good signage at each hole
-Each basket is in excellent condition

Cons:

-Didnt know where hole 1 was, and neither did the kid working at the pro shop
-Trash strewn throughout the course, including golf course/cart related trash.
-The wind RIPS through here. Both afternoons I played had 25mph+ winds
-No shady areas really

Other Thoughts:

Just a little regular maintenance would make this course a little better.

Breezy Course Bordering The Golf Course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 29, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course plays around and very near and uses some of reconfigured grounds of the Gene Torres Ball Golf Course. At times, you may have to wait for the golfers to play through. Although mostly open, there are some scattered trees to throw around, enough elevation to make things interesting and there was one water hazard when I played in late March. Between the ever present wind blowing off the Sangra de Cristo Mountains and the distance, this course will challenge anyone who dares to play it. I was fortunate to be guided around by John Tapia, one of the club leaders here in Las Vegas.
Three holes in particular stood out for me as favorites. # 3 where you're throwing downhill 300-400' depending on the placement to a basket tucked away in the trees. # 14 is probably the toughest hole on the course. You have to throw a pin point accurate slightly hyser drive through a gap in the trees to avoid a bogey here. And the final hole, # 18 is a short, but blind downhill toss made treacherous by the gusting crosswinds and OB road on the left side.

Cons:

According to course guru, John, the wind here blow consistently from March until September, and it blows hard, gusting upwards to 20-25 MPH. The natural teepads are probably not the best. Again, according to John, the grass can get very long during the summer, making hunting for discs a everyday occurence. I found a couple of the wide open holes fairly boring.

Other Thoughts:

Battling this constant wind would make you a better player, for sure. I think this course could really benefit from borrowing a page from the Brent Baca Memorial Course in Alburquerque and laying in some made obstacles around the baskets like they have there. The two I'm specifically visualizing for here are the burying of the poles (upright) around a basket that sits out in the open thereby giving the basket the feel of being set in a grove of trees. The second is maybe borrowing, begging or stealing one or two of the large, rusting metal frame industrial structures that Brent Baca has laying around in abundance. They could surely spare one or two of their structures and when placed around/or atop of, one of these open baskets here, would really jazz up one of these more mundane open praire desert holes. Just my two cents worth but then I wouldn't have to be the one out digging holes in the blazing hot desert sun. I'll leave that to John and his crew!

Day in The Sun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 17, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

They used good shots and Trees very well, but they also use the Length of the course for how much room they had. They made Elevated shots at times but not enought to really hurt your shots.

Cons:

No Woods or even objects but maybe 2 holes, Big Arm and Great Aim will Shoot you -14.

Other Thoughts:

This course was just added to Help the college out for another Class. Used Well with the Ball Golf course right next to you.

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 19, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

For a wide open course the designers made good use of the available trees to make it challenging. Many good elevation shots. It does not follow the ball course so you won't be in each other's way.

Other Thoughts:

Tee markers need to be anchored but that's an easy fix.
