Pros: This course has something for everyone, big arm holes, short finesse holes and everything in between. I have played a lot of courses around Tennessee and Kentucky, but have not seen one like this. The use of the existing park has lent to some spectacular elevation changes. This, combined with the ever present OB makes this a thinking man's course. A lake is planned for the middle of hole #7 and this will make it an incredible challenge even though it is a par 4, and will make this the signature hole for Indian Mound. Hole #2 is a short par three and very birdieable, but the OB that surrounds it makes you play smart instead of just ripping an ace run. Hole #8 is taking some flack for perhaps being too difficult, but this is where you have to use your head. Yes, it has OB on both sides of a 30-40' wide fairway uphill to a par 4, but just know you are probably not going to birdie it and play smart. Take your 4 and move on to the very birdieable #9. All in all, there are birdies to be had out there and there are some very challenging holes. I have had good days at Indian Mound and I have had days where the Mound kicked my rear end, but that's what keeps me coming back. If the course was easy, I would play somewhere else.
Cons: No concrete tees, but these are planned for installation in the spring of '12 if not sooner so that will clear itself up. This park did not really have much in the way of large trees, but what they do have was used to it's best advantage. Many new trees are being planted and in a few years of growth this may not be the case either.
Other Thoughts: I encourage everyone to come out and try this course. We don't have very many in eastern Kentucky and this is worth the drive.
