Beautiful but lacking substance

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 27, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

-9 Permanent Metal baskets with number plates on top, mostly level.
-Course in built on a beautiful VA complex with vast grassy fields and numerous mature trees.
-Free to play
-Low traffic level, likely nobody. The course shows no wear from use.
-Nice mix of hole length*.
-Some moderate use of elevation.

Cons:

-No map, navigation is a choose your own adventure situation.
-No designated tees or signage*.
-Sprinkler head within 2' of basket #3 and it's a powerful sprinkler. Could be others like this as well but that was the only one that we saw. Obviously not going to be an issue every round but still, not ideal.

Other Thoughts:

This course has a ton of potential to be an great nine holer. We played the baskets in number order but chose our tee boxes to add challenge, distance, excitement, OB's ect. to every hole. With all of the well cared for green space and mature trees we really had a fun time creating our own course.
The only place where the baskets don't really flow well is when you play to basket #2. You have to kind of back track up the road toward the house area to get toward basket #3 which takes you across basket #8.
There are no on-site amenities, i.e....anything. Maybe there's a building that you could get in with a bathroom but the VA complex is huge and I'd have no idea where to start. Maybe the visitor/info center if you're really in need.
Worth a spin you're in the area and bagging or just want to create your own layout. I'd use it for practice if I lived in Sheridan because there's a ton of room and it's really nicely taken care of.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 1, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great location - beautiful views
Easy to follow even without maps

Cons:

No desgnated tee boxes
Some very long holes
No tee signs

Other Thoughts:

Some designation somewhere within the grounds would be nice. We drove through entire VA area before finding the course and the first tee. Otherwise this is a beautiful course with enough trees and distances to make it fun and challenging.

Beautiful Course needs designated Tees! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 7, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Beautiful "park"
well-kept grass fairways
most holes are 350+

Cons:

No map of the course available
No tee signs
No tee pads
No designated tee areas

Other Thoughts:

This course would be Amazing if there were signs and or tee pads. There are amazing views of the Big Horn Mountains. I don't mind teeing from grass or dirt if there is a designated area. I am not a local, but Sheridan has the possibility to have some great courses. There's a good number of courses in this area, but it seems like once they put the baskets in the ground they were done with the course. I hope whenever I come to Sheridan again that this course will have tee pads or signs.
