 Beginner's Luck

Pros: This course really tests your accuracy and creativity with different types of shots. You will find yourself in positions that require all the shots you know how to throw and some that you don't (or at least I don't yet). Most of the tee pads are still in great shape and most of the baskets are standing the test of time. This course also has dual practice baskets that allows a player to practice his approach and putting. It is nice the way that the park rotates the baskets to the alternate position every now and then. This give a casual round a new wrinkle.
Cons: I call this review beginner's luck because there are several holes on this course where it truly doesn't seem to matter whether you are experienced or not. I understand tight fairways but holes 6, 9 and 12 are ridiculous. A great throw can either just miss the trees and land in position for a birdie try or slam directly into one of the many trees in its path and set up a bogey. Most of the tee signs are old and need to be replaced due to vandalism the course changing or just age.
Other Thoughts: This is my "home" course and I have played it quite a few times. It is a great place to go if you just want to get a quick 18 holes. It takes less than an hour solo and just a little longer with a group. The park also has a couple of football fields which are great for a little field practice after a round. The park also has many other amenities (playground, sand volleyball courts, tennis courts, trails, paddle boats and decent fishing) if you need to distract your family members while you play.

Pros: nice Delaware St Pk...18 DG baskets...
swimming/showers available near disc golf...alcohol is allowed in other areas of the park...park fee is higher to non-state residents...
Cons: Flat...can be very muddy...trees and lots of trees...un-level tees (unless they have improved)..almost very tee shot will hit a tree either early or late since it plays constantly in or out of the woods...park rangers galore...alcohol is not allowed in area 1 where the course is located in...
Other Thoughts: I have not played Lums in many years, with other courses now available to choose from in the area, I have more fun playing DG elsewhere.

Pros: Challenges your accuracy, nice scenery, well-kept except for some signs.
Cons: Most holes are pretty similar - relatively short and heavily wooded.
Other Thoughts: Not much to add to other reviews. It's a good course I would play again but I don't know that I'd make a special trip for it.

Pros: Decent challenge here, not so much in distance, but Lums certainly makes you work on your accuracy. Every hole involves the woods in some way- throwing down narrow fairways, into or out of small openings in the treeline (a couple/few holes both as you throw across the field.) and navigation of low hanging trees and large pines. A number of holes require, except for maybe the top pros, a smart layup to stay in the fairway and plan your second shot. At Lums an errant shot into the dense woods can easily lead to a 6 or 7 on our card. As a result the course is a great place to work on your precision and accuracy. About a third of the holes play near the pond (largest fresh water pond in Delaware, practically a lake) and due to its size these holes typically have a breeze coming off of it. Hole variety is nice, mostly wooded will test every shot in your bag. A little more than half the holes have two pin placements, some adding distance, some putting the basket into more protection and some changing the feel of the hole entirely. Due to fairway turns and thick woods many shots are 'blind' and the location of the basket on holes with 2 pin placements can be unclear. Not to worry, check the tee sign, on the pole under the hole map is a stenciled A and B. A clamp is placed around which ever letter position the pin is currently in and the course pros do a good job of keeping them updated. The hole maps always show position A so if B hasn't been drawn on the map you may have to look around a bit for the basket.
A signature hole would be 16, a 400+ ft hole with a horseshoe shaped fairway that has a small very high-risk window to cut through the middle. The perfect course to improve the accuracy of your throws.
This is also one of only two I've played that has duel practice baskets to throw back and forth at. Nice feature.
Cons: Hole maps and tee pads (cement tiles though sufficient have become a bit uneven overtime) can certainly use an update. Hole maps don't have alternate pin placements on them or if they do its hand drawn. If accuracy is not your game then you may find your drive off a tree and ten feet from the tee pad, but hey its part of the game.
Other Thoughts: Lums is one of my favorites of northern Delaware, which contains a number of high quality courses. But players beware- If you, like me, enjoy an adult beverage or two on the course, think twice about doing it here. While drinking is legal at Lums Pond SP, it is not on the disc golf course. Its a shame they felt the need to do this, but be warned, if they catch you they will fine you and big brother is watching. That goes for all other park rules, speed limit, closing times, ridiculous stop signs, etc. That said, please don't let it deter you from this quality course.

Pros: There are 18 baskets.
There are 18 teepads.
There is some modest variety, and a couple very challenging holes.
Cons: Nearly every hole is blind.
The course is 99% flat.
Areas closest to the pond can be a little swampy.
Mosquitoes can be brutal in the summer time.
When alternate pin placements were added a few years back - it made the "blind" condition worse.
Park fees are a little high - but consistent with DE State Parks.
Park Management is hostile to the DG Community.
Other Thoughts: With the "relationship" of the park staff to the DG ers in general the way it is, it's surprising they haven't abandoned this as a viable DG site.

Best time to play Lums is in the winter, when visibility is at it's best.

You're better off going to Lums to go fishing, as I've heard of really nice Crappie in the Pond. Of course you can't eat them, due to all the PCB's.

Pros: Plays around the perimeter of the park, and as such you're always pretty close to where you parked. Many holes incorporate both the old-growth forest surrounding the pond and the grass field. Well-worn and defined throwing lanes. Many alternate pin placements (1 basket per hole). Modest length good for beginners. Dated signage, but signage nonetheless. Good variety of left-and-right shots.
Cons: Pond doesn't come into play, a wasted opportunity. Concrete tees are made of uneven tiles. Holes 2-4 flood often. No elevation. Wish the field was used for a few wide-open holes. Seems like the whole course could use a sprucing-up. Bathrooms closed for the season in winter.
Other Thoughts: Not only does Delaware charge for using its state parks, it's obviously biased against disc golfers. No less than 4 signs while driving in state that no alcohol is allowed in "area 1" aka the disc golf area, though it's allowed everywhere else.

Pros: Mostly wooded. A mix of short and longer holes. A fun course that wasn't to challenging but not to easy as well. A good course to take a beginner to introduce them to the game. You will use a lot of different shots as I thought hole variation was really well done
Cons: out of state entry fee (I believe 5$ or more)

Pros: Fairly flat with relatively new baskets. Concrete tees add stability.
Cons: Between 5 of us, we must have hit 100 trees. Very hard to not hit a tree on a drive. The tee signs need a little work.
They should utilize some of that open land for extra holes.
Other Thoughts: Nice place with a great pond. However, the pay to play factor is just too great during the summer when I make the 2 hr. trip there.

Pros: The surrounding park is very nice. Course is labeled well and is flat, which makes it easy to walk. Some holes require good course management skills. A good variety of holes.
Cons: Many trees. Some holes are very difficult to get a good tee shot off (#6 & 12 come to mind).

Can get very muddy & it takes some time to dry out (especially holes #3).
Other Thoughts: Nice course to bring a beginner to, as the holes are mostly short & there's little rough to lose your disc in.

Pros: Challenging and fun with many different shots required. Unusual in the fact that every hole can be birdied but only 3 of them can be considered easy (2,7,14) with another 3 being down right hard. (4,9,16).
Restrooms and nice lake.
Cons: Would be great if it could be expanded. Pay to play. Often wet and muddy around the lake. A few tees are sub standard. Hole two is nothing without the mando and really just gets in the way of holes 1,3,4,5.
Other Thoughts: This course isn't great by today's standard but the in and out of the woods shots and the technical nature of it somehow still make it a lot of fun to play. Hole two needs to be removed, hole 3 can be lengthened and a new hole added on the back. This simple change would make the course more fun more safe and have much better flow for tourneys and crowded days.
