A Really Strange Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 20, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

First of all, I am always happy to see courses installed on college campuses. That being said, this is a very strange course.

Loved the poured rubber tee pads. They were flat and grippy, though small. Map shows multiple tees for each hole, but I only ever found one.

Innova baskets were all in perfect condition, but not numbered. This course needs all of the navigation help it can get!!

Holes 1 - 3 work their way around a soccer field and the Golden Dome. Main obstacles are roads, fences, buildings, etc. Hole 4 was unplayable while I was there due to building construction.

Holes 5 - 7 use an open hillside to introduce the only elevation on the course. Hole 5 is a blind shot up and over the hilltop. Hole 7 is a big downhill drive to a basket near the baseball field fence.

Holes 8, 9 and 10 all play in the vicinity of buildings, roads and pathways, but are playable. Holes 11 and 12 are very tight to buildings and roadways and I felt were unsafe to play due to nearby parked cars.

Then it seems like you go to play a completely different course across the road in a swamp. Holes 13 - 17 play in an undeveloped wetland area. Most baskets are up on slightly elevated dry ground, with a lot of boggy, swampy ground surrounding the holes. Interesting holes but big opportunity to lose discs.

Hole 18 is back across the road to a(nother) hole with a basket too close to parked cars.

Cons:

Navigation and course flow are really bad. Without the map you have zero chance of finding the holes. The map is difficult to read, but an absolute necessity on this course. Some long walks between holes. Especially the walk from Hole 12 across the road to the "swamp holes" 13-17.

Not a sign, post, stake or arrow to help you. The teepads are small and set flush with the ground, so they are not easy to find.

Many of the holes are wedged into odd shaped pieces of land, with parked cars, roads, buildings, and pathways nearby. I felt that Holes 11 and 12 were not safely playable due to the very close proximity of parked cars to the fairway and basket. Hole 3 requires a blind drive around the Golden Dome with the basket very near an entry door. Bring a spotter!!

The swampy areas around Holes 13 - 17 was pretty nasty. Getting your disc off any distance into the water would make it difficult to recover. I don't know if this area dries up at any time.

Other Thoughts:

I played this course on a weekday, while classes were in session. There were a lot of parked cars and construction activity that made several holes dicey or downright unplayable. Playing on weekends or during summer when school is out could be different.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 31, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful tee boxes
Very challenging - multiple distances, varying elevations, water hazards
Well maintained

Cons:

Map was confusing to read
Tees were not numbered and tee boxes were sometimes in odd locations
In rainy season several holes surrounded by swamp with difficulty getting to some of the baskets due to overgrown grass and vegetation

Other Thoughts:

This could be an amazing course with a little improvement. It seems like the baskets were set and tee pads were made and then things were forgotten. The were areas that had been mowed that showed a sort of trail through the course but it was getting overgrown. Signs and numbered baskets would really help!

a four star???? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 11, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

good job on the tee pads and nice very new looking baskets.

Cons:

knee high grass and 30 mile an hour winds made it very difficult. Tough to navigate even with map. some painted 4x4 post by teepads is very inexpensive and would make it much easier to find teepads in the grass. The back section was a complete swamp and unplayable with deep mud and water within 15 ft of basket.

Other Thoughts:

I've played over 100 courses over 20 plus years and this course is a 2 at best. No way is it a 4 by any stretch. Numbers on tees and baskets and the distance at the tee can be done very inexpensively. Add a piece of colored duct tape to the bottom rung pointing toward the next tee and your looking at maybe a 3 if the grass is mowed.

Solid Sheridan 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 25, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

+Good variety of distance, some are pretty long and many are ace runs if you hit the right line.
+Pretty good elevation on a few holes. Many of the longer holes also incorporated elevation so it was fun to throw forever.
+Tees are nice and unique, could be a little bigger but they are good.
+Campus is well maintained and there was no garbage around. Most of the course is in a mowed area so it will always be taken care of.
+Baskets are nice and catch well.
+Some holes require good shot placement to set up a putt or next shot. There were never really any lines that were forced but it was important where your disc ended up.

Cons:

-No signage.
-Flow is bad, bring the map. Especially in the early holes. Again, bring the map.
-Tees could be a little bigger
-Many holes are too open for my taste.
-This is Wyoming and it could be very windy here.
-Similar to most college campus courses, the course plays too close to parking lots, sidewalks, buildings, roads, etc. It wasn't horrible or poor design, it is just how it has to be if they want a course here. Look twice before you throw and you will be fine.

Other Thoughts:

+This is the best course in the Sheridan area and is worth a play. Just don't expect a 5 disc course like the previous reviewer (course designer as well) said.
+Play during summer is recommended as this is a college course.

Fun Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 1, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great Course. This Course boasts a huge variety of shots and shot placement that will promise to be challenging to even the best. The Tee pads are poured and are made from recycled tires. They are very grippy and is very similar to a track surface. The course surrounds the college and offers the ability to stop at campus for the restrooms or refreshments.

Cons:

I brand new course that needs the local disc club and the formation of a college disc club to take ownership to truly make this a Gem.

Other Thoughts:

You should definitely print off a course map to help navigate the course. Being a new course the trails are not beat down yet and the flow is a little choppy through the first 4 holes.
