Pros:

Nice tee signs with hole distance, and hole number.
Plays on a hill for most the course behind the Toledo library swimming pool. Elevation is a factor on most the holes with downhill and uphill throws. Allows different shot variety, and baskets out in decent condition however couple out bent. Navigation from tee to tee is fairly simple besides one spot. Good practice for the mid range and putting game.

Cons:

Hole 1 plays along the trail not a fan of holes that play down walking type trails. Hole 2 is basically an overhand throw with no good line. Hole 3 should be a mando tree but even if it is the line is just ridiculous and dosen't have a straight path to pin. Hole 5 is kind of a get lucky hyzer type hole and the rest our fine. The main issue is there's a lot of ivy, and being on a hillside gets slippery, and tough to locate discs. Traction is a nightmare and you might fall once or twice a round. There was also some trash on the course and dosen't get maintained to often. Few baskets were bent and just not a really good course.

Other Thoughts:

It's worth the stop and practice and play here and there but wouldn't go out of my way. With more ivy cleaned up and maintained it would be a 3 star but I played in winter and still hard to locate plastic, I'm sure summer is worse

***According to the National Weather Services Historical Records dating back to 1803, the last time the Oregon coast went 30 days without rain was 1806***

This couse starts right up the hill from the pool's parking lot. Hole #1 plays 250' up a narrow walking trail with the basket set at the end the 1st switchback. On your left the entire length of the way is a very steep and treacherous drop-off. # 2 is just 160' up the trail on the 2nd switchback trail but the basket is perched precariously on a ridge. Don't go right or past the basket or you'll have to mountain goat back up the steep hillside. # 3 is where I struggled a bit. I finally found the tee pad but then couldn't locate the basket which is listed at only 166' away. I finally eyeballed it through the thick brush. One reviewer said this was a big hyzer shot. I threw an annie up and over the trees and brush and actually birded this hole.
The # 4 tee pad is just a few feet up the trail from the third basket. It's 201' with a steep drop-off on the left.
# 5 then plays 226' uphill to a blind basket hidden over on a ridge on the left. There is danger lurking on the left side here.
Now, from this point forth, I really started to really enjoy this course.
# 6 is a great little, tight downhill shot, 169' to a visible basket. It requires touch as well as accuracy! # 7 is another pretty little throw, 150' downhiil through a natural ravine. Another touch/accuracy ACE run. Then # 8 is a cool 118' very steep uphill throw to a basket built onto a little platform. These short but steep uphill throws are always deceptive in the amount of lift needed to reach the basket.
And then # 9 is a 230' gradually downhill to the final basket which sits down near the library.

Cons:

I thought # 1 was just a silly hole, not at all worth the risk/reward of scaling the steep hillside looking for an errant hyzer!
Navigation was a little sketchy especially after # 2 and figuring out the # 3 hole. It's pretty confusing with all the walking trails leading all which ways.
It would really help if one of the locals would simply take a sharpie and write the # of the basket on the inside bar. That would have helped me a lot.

The steep trails were slippery and it was a fairly dry day when I played. This course would be scary treacherous on any kind of a typical Oregon Coastel drizzly/wet/rainy day.
A previous reviewer mentioned vandalism being a problem on this course. I'm not surprised with the Skate Punk Park just across the highway. Through my entire round, I was serenaded with F bombs from the skaters!

Other Thoughts:

I'm always amazed how people think that any course that is short automatically is great for beginners. Although short in distance, this course is anything but a beginners course. There's a fair amount of challenge here but it comes with a large degree of risk, especially for beginners. If you're looking for a great course for beginners, there's one just 6 1/2 miles away @ South Beach State Park.

I really wasn't impressed with Toledo Red Dog's first five holes. The final four were fun, creative and made my visit here worthwhile.

Worth It 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 1, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Everything CAN be birdied, most will NOT be.
-Elevation changes make holes more difficult than distance says.
-Shot selection and placement are well rewarded.
-Lush, green, scenic
-Well thought out design to create beautiful holes.
-On the way to the coast(3 courses out there now).
-Playable in 35-45 min
-Perfect warm up or cool down course before/after Wilder.
-Good use of space

Cons:

-New course
---Needs more discers to beat it in
-Been vandalized twice in a month
---Needs more discers to put eyes and presence on the course.
-Ivy makes even on target shots difficult to locate if you're playing solo.
---bring friends!

Other Thoughts:

One of the best 9 hole courses you'll find. Amateurs will like the distance and learn how to place shots off the tee. Advanced players can chase the "perfect round" here (9 down) and may never actually achieve it. A few holes are ace runs...that you can still bogey if you're sloppy. Unique holes enhance re-playability (Hardcore Dog Leg #3, into the canyon #7, 125ft long but also about 70ft up #8) Creative hole names. Everyone can play this course and enjoy it.

Hardcore 9 2+ years drive by

Pros:

Very scenic old Dog-fir growth stand the course plays in. Course switches it up left to right, up and down very well. Its technical and will challange your scorecard to make par. Great beginners course to work on entire game except rollers. Just beautiful.

Cons:

New course and being broke in so vegitation and wouldnt hurt to spot until its complete. Dirt tees for now but in process of going gravel. Signs awaiting ribbon cutting but are written down on posts.

Other Thoughts:

Best 9 hole to go out of your way to play.

Rad Dog 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 30, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Varying terrain and challenging fairways. The course may be on the shorter side, but what it lacks in distance it more than makes up for it in difficulty and scenery (large Douglas Fir trees and lush coast range landscape). It's truly the best 9 hole course I've had the chance of playing in my 20 plus years of disc golfing around the country. It's a work of art.

Cons:

It's a brand new course, so it's got some breaking in to do (lots of foliage that needs to be stomped down by disc golf traffic).

Other Thoughts:

Any course that has a hole named, Drone Strike, gets my vote. The gravity holes here are sweet, precise targets. Go out and play it, if you dare.
