Pros: This is where it all began for me.Highland has a bit of everything. 1 and 2 have you shooting challenging tee shots through trees. 3 is a blind downhill annie for a possible ace. 4 and 8 are for big arms, but on 8 you've still got to put it through a hole in the trees to the basket. There are some shorter technical holes with blind baskets. Your hams will know there were some really good elevation changes when you're done. A drainage ditch is goodbye disco on 7 and 18 if you are not careful. All in all it has good variety and it requires all of your shots. Its just a fun course. Rec center usually has a good supply of Innova discs for sale, rest room, and drinks. A crisp, fall Saturday morning at Highland with LSU playing football that night is a wonderful day. Tee pads are dirt, but usually OK. #18 is a fine finishing hole, downhill and across the deep ditch to an annie basket shielded by trees. Good parking.
Cons: Recent hurricanes have ruined #5 basket (not replaced) and cleared out a lot of trees that made the course more difficult. BREC has plans to redo the course, and I am not thrilled with the proposal, but that is yet to come. My biggest con is the amount of cross country training for schools done here in the Fall. The runners, for the most part, have no courtesy. They don't stop for your throw and they don't want to move when they are standing in your way. I've had to putt with shirts hanging on baskets. The tees could be marked better for those who are looking for the Pro and Beginner tees.
Other Thoughts: The course has been tougher before the hurricanes, but I do not think you will regret playing this course. It is fun. Big arms will love Highland, but better than average technical disc golfers will score.

Pros: It has plenty of wide open shot for you guys that can bomb the disc. There were only a few holes where water could eat your disc but not very at all. It's one creek that runs by and some of the holes play towards the creek.
Cons: If you are old and feeble the elevation changes might get to your legs which is something pretty unheard of this far south. It seemed like a bunch of people like running out here as there was a bunch of runners in the park. No sweat though!
Other Thoughts: All in all I love this course and will be down to play it as much as i can. Mainly only come to Baton Rouge to see the Bulldogs beat the tigers or to play disc golf. If it's not one of the two you won't see me there!

very fun and scenic course
Pros: If you are a big armed player, you will love this course. Tons of huge blasts and elevation changes. Course is very pretty and the area of the park devoted to disc golf does not seem to overlap with any other park activities. I was there in January, so I can't say how crowded it gets in the summer. The multiple tee pads are very well implemented. Unlike many boring southeast courses, moving from the Am box to the Pro box actually changes the line of your shot and forces you to make a lot of risk/reward decisions.
Cons: Natural teepads. Most of the tee areas were actually fine, but this is a wet marshy area. The locals were wearing football cleats.
Poor signage. No maps, no distances, many of the pro teepad markers were no longer in place.
Shot selection. There was a pretty good variety of shot selection, but I don't remember having to throw very many anhyzers. Also, the course seemed to really favor power throwers.

Other Thoughts: This is a really fun course. I hate when courses have it all going on in terms of layout but they lose points for things like teepads, signage, etc. If teepads and signs were improved, I would rate it a 4 or 4.5.

Highland Road Park Review
Pros: Great elevation changes for south Louisiana... 3 sets of tees... Many excellent holes...
Cons: Several trees removed after Hurricane Gustav... Not great balance(mostly long and open)... Tee signs are bad with no distances...
Other Thoughts: Blue(short) tees are a wonderful layout for beginners... Orange(middle) tees are a challenge even for skilled players... Yellow(long) tees are a huge challenge even for the best of players... Weekly doubles on Wednesday night at 6pm(all year long... glowbee when not enough daylight)... There are natural tees but there are no roots... Tees are great except for when it rains...

Tough shape
Pros: Some interesting holes with decent variety of lengths and obstacles.
Cons: In very poor shape. Many tee signs missing or torn down, basket on hole 5 is mangled. No course map that I could find to compensate for missing signs. Dirt tees.
Other Thoughts: Disappointing that a potentially good course is in such poor shape. It wouldn't take much to bring it up to snuff.

Best Course in Baton Rouge
Pros: This course has much to offer. Distance, woods, elevation changes (a luxury in South Louisiana) and water hazards. A very popular course in the evenings and on the weekends with L.S.U. just down the street. Highland Road park is a beautiful park - it's a challenge to just play one round here.
Cons: The water hazards have eaten a few discs in the past, especially hole 18 where an average drive seems to always land in the creek.
Other Thoughts: The tennis center has a drink machine and discs for sale and is conveniently located by the tees for 1 and 10.
