Cool old school course

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 13, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

I rolled up at this one on a Monday afternoon and it was packed. Tons of groups navigating this relatively compact 18 hole course.

It's got two sets of pads and baskets on every hole for a good array of layouts that could make this one a lot of fun to play for just about anyone.

Layout starts right by the parking lot with 2 elderly practice baskets and the tee for 8 is right there as well so if you wanted to skip some groups that's possible also.

The vibe here is is similar to a Brahan springs type course. A lot of large older trees you are shaping around, pretty flat and a several tricky mandos to both make it a bit safer and more interesting.

It's a fun course with a good vibe and if you love winding righty backhand heavy lines through the woods it's a good play.

Baskets are older disccatchers but caught well and are easy to see through the woods, and the pads are roughly 4x8 concrete and pretty nice underfoot.

The spokes have tape on them to indicate the next tee direction with a color to indicate the layout you are playing.

I've been told at least one of the holes here are the original Steady Ed design and it's always cool to play a hole designed by the man himself.

Signs are great, full color and have a weird looking thing on top that makes an awesome bag holder.

Cons:

It's pretty one note and you basically just need to throw a couple of different lines through the woods. No water, little OB, like 2 mandos and no very long holes.

They make the best with a what they have but it's nothing crazy.

Baskets are older and a little rusty, mainly caught well, but the cage makes the worst possible sound when you miss low.

A lot of the holes are a little course to one another and many new players will spray one into a neighboring fairway. I watched even good players do this a couple of times.

Other Thoughts:

It's a very solid course and a fun play, but not a huge destination. If I'm around again I'd play it again, but if I had an hour I'd drive somewhere more highly rated.

fair, wooded course near the beach! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 19, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Beautiful wooded setting in VB proper, so close to food, beaches, etc. The mature trees create a low ceiling to challenge your woods strategy. I don't believe there is one hole where you are not dealing with a ceiling at some point. In most cases, entirely from tee to green. The forest is real, but the flight lines are not impossible. They are mostly doable from the teepads. And those that are tougher (nos. 10 and 12) are not impossible. The floor of the course is nicely swept, so that there is little rough to be exercised about. Of course, there is real vegetation around creek holes nos. 16 and 17, but I think you have to mess up pretty badly for said vegetation to be a real issue. All in all, the course is challenging without being overwhelming. Being a poor woods player, I very much appreciate that.

Cons:

Some fairways are too close to others; the paved trail alongside holes 1-3, 12-13 is a real issue for the bomber (said path is both OB and well-traveled by pedestrians, bicyclists, etc.). The course routing can be confusing. I played the course in a tournament, and though I had a practice round, I didn't find no. 12 until tournament day. UDisc didn't even help me there, but I was being pushed around by other players (so distracted). Yes, it gets busy. I'm not local to VB, so I don't know if there are some days that are less busy than others. I played most of my practice round on a late Friday afternoon, the tournament on a Saturday (all day), and finished my incomplete practice round on a Monday morning. Monday morning perhaps was as busy as late Friday afternoon. There are not enough benches. At least from the white tee, the holes are fairly short. That actually isn't a complaint for me, but those of you more skilled may find this less challenging. I'm not sure playing the (long) red tee to the (long) red basket will be markedly more exciting for you; someone who has played/reviewed that will know best. During the tournament, I played red to yellow in Rd 1, and white to yellow in Rd 2.

Other Thoughts:

The course is in a very nice city park in a suburban area of Virginia Beach. There are other sports/park facilities including picnic shelters, basketball courts, the aforementioned bicycling/walking trail, children's playgrounds, 1 or 2 baseball fields, tennis courts. There may be a soccer field or 2 also; I don't remember now. The park office collects lost discs. The restroom is not so far from hole 1 and is near the north end of the parking lot where disc golfers would park. If you are on vacation to VB, playing both Bayville and Munden Point during your stay would be most enjoyable.

My First Course

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 31, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-An 18-hole course originally designed by Ed Headrick, and likely the second course designed on the east coast. The course is moderately wooded, 1/3rd of the course plays on a gentle slope, and fairways are compact. A canal comes into play on hole 16.

-Each hole has two baskets, two concrete tee's, and three toe boards. A family/beginner toe board, Intermediate toe board, and an advanced/pro toe board.

-The advanced/pro toe board at Bayview, out of the three courses I frequent with the additional same tee's. I rank Bayview 2nd in difficulty and scenery. The other two courses are Bennett's Creek, and Newport News Park.

-Since the course's installation of 1977, there have been several realignments. If you haven't played the course in several years, major changes have been made or trees have fallen changing the shape of fairways.

-Out of the courses I've played, I rank Bayville No. 1 for all levels of play. There is a local club with weekly's that call the course home. Also, a lady's group will meet several times a year.

-With the 10 tee/basket combinations per hole, wooded gap play, and guardian baskets. I rank Bayville #1 for any player to improve their game. If you rotate tee's and baskets each round, you're likely to use the majority of your bag, if not all discs.

-Just about all of the fairways are compact sand offering long skip shots. When there's heavy rain or several days of rain, the water will seep into the sand, standing water soaks in quickly.

Cons:

-If you're looking to play the course thinking it may be close to the original layout, you're going to be disappointed. Only hole 16 short to short is an original hole without the basket sitting on a mound.

-The course is repeative with tee gaps, fairway gaps, and guardian trees protecting baskets. Very few open baskets or an open tee. For a first visit some holes not memorable, took a handful of visits to remember the layout.

-The Discatcher Baskets are old, some are leaning over slightly. But broken baskets have been fixed quickly.

-It's a compact course with close fairways on top of each other. Beware of wayward shots, several players have been hit by a disc with bruising, and some stitches.

-The "Bayville Shuffle" heavy leaves during the fall months will find yourself kicking leaves trying to find your disc. I've lost a total of three disc on the course, two the past two falls, and one in the canal protecting #16 long basket in the summer when the Catskills are at their tallest. In the warmer months, disc is easier to find, the rough is sparse and leaves have blown away.

-With warm weather, the course can get crowded with a lot of waiting, I tend to only play at first light to avoid it. There can be dog walkers, and joggers using the course as well.

Other Thoughts:

Bayville is my first course played, first birdie made on #18, and at the time of this rewrite I have played 463 rounds rotating tee's and baskets. I've been able to develop my game from a newb, to what I now think is a decent Disc Golfer. The moderately wooded course also provides development in gap play whether off the tee, down fairway, or trying to make a birdie between the V shape guardian trees protecting #1 short basket in C1. The course is home to local top Pro's and Amateurs in the area, so you may find yourself playing a round with them. My biggest personnel con is the slow play with a heavy crowd from about mid-morning during the rest of the day. I make sure I'm teeing off shortly after sunup to avoid it.

My overall rating is anchored on a 5.0 based on all skill levels can play the course and with repeat play can develop there game, and course history. The time to play short to short averages about 50 minutes, Advanced/Pro tee to long basket 80 minutes.

Course History:

-What I call the "Old Timers" bench by parking, you may find a group of guys in the morning a few times a week when its warm. Some of them play a partial round. I like to say hello and hear their disc golf stories from years past. Say hello, there likely to ask you questions about your disc golf experiences.

-The course installed in 1977, per one installer Bayville was supposed to be the first course on the East Coast, but the baskets were diverted to Sedgley Woods in Philadelphia. I know of one who has played the course since 1980, and she tells me concrete tees were in play then.

-"Course relics" from several realignments, I like seeing the history. There are several concrete tee's not in use. To the left of #1 long concrete tee is a disengrating concrete tee from years past. There are other tee's still in good shape, but smaller and not used, and a few used on #12, and #13 in place of the intermediate blue toe boards. I've come across three basket anchors no longer used and likely not stable enough for today's baskets on #1 about 100 feet before long basket, #8 about C2 short basket, and #9 about 75 feet from short basket. They would be hard to find, all three center right fairway. #17 long concrete looks to have been used several decades, maybe 1980?

The only Original Hole remaining:

No. 16 Par 3 at 245 feet short to short without the mound the basket is currently placed on. Dead straight ahead thru a tunnel of pines with overhang, fairway about 30-feet wide. Basket in open, mound is a roller green when mowed.

My Favorite Hole:

No. 7 Par 3 Long Concrete Tee to any basket at 286/350-feet. Tee from top of the slope dogleg left with the slope right to left all the way to short basket, and levels out at long basket. From the tee on right a wall of cedar trees, on the left about 100 feet out a wide mid-size tree protecting the dogleg. At 225 feet out a wall of Pines with plenty of gap space to get thru. Short basket a guardian tree, long basket open in C1. Beautiful line for a LHBH turnover flip, and for whatever reason for I can execute it more than half the time. Just recently putted in a birdie in long basket for the first time.

Featured Advanced/Pro Hole:

No. 2 Par 3 at 459 feet to long basket, the toe board is placed about 3 feet lower than the flat fairway, to reach the level fairway about 40-feet. This is a LHBH or RHFH favored hole with tree blockage on the right off the tee, your line is over the short tee pad with a lazy dog leg right before tree blockage on the left. Best to be at least No. 1 long basket high at about 250 feet or longer for best results right side of fairway for approach. A few large oak trees next to short basket act as a guardian for long basket from right center fairway all the way left, basket about 50 feet past guardian trees. The idea from tee is a sweeping left to right center fairway, approach either skip under guardian trees or sweeping right to left too reach basket. I'm normally blocked on my approach and likely to hit a guardian tree, normally finish with a bogey.

Featured Basket Placement:

No. 1 Short Basket is protected by a "V" shape duel pine trees 3 feet wide, basket just 5-feet past. If you don't get it basket high, you may be two-putting, I've had plenty. Plenty of birdies clean thru the V if short, I've had birdies deflecting off one of the trees, and also being swatted down by one of the trees. Fun way to start your round.

Signature Hole:

No. 16 Par 3 Long at 285 feet the basket sits in the open on the other side of canal 10-feet past it. Go long past the basket at 25-feet bushes. The canal is 50-feet across, in the summer cattails tall enough to block basket from some angles, a scenic look, in the winter dreary. Lost disc potential in the summer. There is a dry landing area to the left of the canal about 25-feet from the line to the basket over the canal, the canal is piped under the short 16 basket fairway. From the tee it looks like a poke and hope with a narrow gap of about 10-feet in front of you 25-feet away, after that it does open up some with a few routes to take. In the winter the canal when dry easy to find a disc. I like to play dead straight ahead into the canal, seeing if I can avoid trees about 200 feet out, from the canal is C1 for an up hill birdie putt. In the summer is an unseen LHBH/RHFH line to the dry area C1 if your long enough. I've picked up a handful of birdies both ways, most recently after hitting a tree 119-feet out skimming over the cattails.

Trouble Hole:

No. 13 Long Tee Par 4 at 489 feet straight ahead right center of fairway to basket, this hole will make you think about it. The hole is a poke and hope, with an OB busy road all along the left with some tree protection to keep your disc in play. The tee angles slightly right to help line up away from the road, you have some open space before the first tree line 175 feet away, with gaps no more than 12 feet wide. To make it harder there is a bushy tree just 5 feet off the right front corner tee pad to force you in play with a possible tree kick onto the road, and to the narrowest of gaps. Past the first line of gaps its all poke and hope with dozens of gaps to reach the basket, depending on where your disc lies, you're likely going to have to use your imagination to continue down fairway. If you can make it to the short tee fairway off to the right at about 200 feet, the lines are more open there. Short tee fairway runs at a left angle to the basket from short tee, its closer to you from long tee if you can get some good distance. If I'm throwing good during the round, I'll throw straight down the middle to the narrowist of gaps, if not feeling it I'll fade skip a disc to the short fairway. Regardless its a fun hole, on any approach I may be looking at a different angle to the basket from round to round and have likely used every disc out of my bag at one time or another whether on approach or 3rd shot after a tree hit. The basket has guardians within C1 but is open at a 20-foot circle. I've had my share of doubles after kicking to the road, and clean pars never making C1 because of awkward lines. In the summer a very scenic hole with the canopy, in the winter layer of leaves doing a lot of "Bayville Shuffle" kicking and having one disc lost in the four years I've played here. I have hit more trees on this hole, than any other hole on courses I've frequent.

Caution in the fall... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 4, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Been a while since I played this course, but wanted to log the review. Looks like some great improvements have been made to signage to aide wayfinding. Shorter holes with lots of overlapping fairways, and the overlapping play can feel intimidating to newer players, but those who have played this type of course before will feel much more comfortable.

Cons:

Be careful playing this course around the time of year when the leaves fall... we caught this course at peak leaf-fall season and it was impossible to find disc as the entire ground was a pile of leaves.

DG History - on the East Coast 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 20, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Two tees and two baskets on every hole. So you have 4 separate courses, something for every skill level. Baskets are yellow and red.
Great tee signs on every hole.
All the baskets are in good shape and easy to spot.
Two practice baskets.
In a multi-use park (tennis, ballfield, playground, basketball) but the course sits in a section separate from those. The only possible interaction is with a walking path on the first few holes.
Seems to be kept up very well by the Parks crew and local club.

Cons:

Park gate was locked when I got there for my early morning round. (So I drove past the park and parked in the retirement community lot, no problem!) The park has a walking path through it, why would the gate be locked?!
I could see this course getting crowded on busy days, with so many baskets and tees in a relatively small area. But I still like the variety!!
#18 was a so-so finishing hole, nothing exciting about it!

Other Thoughts:

The oldest course in the state of VA and my first Steady Ed original !! I imagine it wasn't originally laid out with 2 baskets per hole, but added later for extra challenge and variety.
The large, old-growth trees in the park provided plenty of obstacles without making it hard to find discs. You have to throw a variety of shots, several holes had more than one option off the tee. A pleasure to play.
#16 provided the only elevation on the course, a small mound with the yellow basket on top, nice little change of pace.
The only water on the course is a drainage ditch beside #16 and in front of #17 tee. This made #17 interesting as you had to clear a mando after clearing the ditch.
#13 is longer than most of the holes at 400', so you have an air it out hole, but still hit your gap.
I believe there are benches on just about every hole, along with the tee signs and cleanliness, further proof this course is well taken care of.
Just a really neat layout where players of different abilities can play in one group, and each be challenged, but not overwhelmed. In most cases, the longer tee provided a different look at the hole.
Now, if the local club can get a course laid out at Mount Trashmore, they will have their elevation course to compliment Bayville.
#99 on my course list, one more to the Century mark!!

This Course Caught me off Guard 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 12, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very technical, at least for a beginner like I am. There is a lot of variety in this course, and it is like 8 courses built into one. The trees make this a fun course and it taught me a lot. As far as I have seen, all of the players seemed to be really nice and courteous.

Cons:

This park is very popular. Not too bad of a con since everyone is super nice here.

Other Thoughts:

I really need to practice more, because this course really challenged me. I found a fun game look at all the "Next Tee" signs as some of them have things written on them that made made me laugh.

Pros:

-2 tees and 2 baskets for every hole
-Plenty of benches at trash cans
-Enough challenge to but fun, not frustrating
-The park itself is pretty small and they really make the most of the space they have.

Cons:

- Each hole felt slightly similar as they are all mostly flat and moderately wooded. I only threw my drivers once or twice and would have liked at least one hole I could confidently bomb it down.
- Some large groups. Not as bad as what I expected based on reading past reviews, but I could see it getting congested easily.

Other Thoughts:

I'm in town visiting and this course was really convenient to get to. Wawa close by and plenty of amenities in the park itself. Its certainly a popular course but I didn't have to do much waiting around on groups at early morning-noon on a Sunday. The course definitely makes you think about each shot you make and offers enough challenge with the trees to be fun but not overly difficult. I'll certainly make my way back here in the future.

Great place to play on that beach vacation 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 15, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Well marked tee pads with good signs.
2 tees, 2 baskets per hole, for 4 looks.
Plenty of benches and trash cans throughout the course, clean park.
A good variety of shots through some thin woods. You gotta bring out most of your shots here.
Hard packed sandy greens, makes approach accuracy important

Cons:

Not many, it's pretty flat, but it's right on the coast so that is to be expected. It's really hot and humid in August, but again that's to be expected. There were some downed trees and branches that need to be cleaned up, but I'm sure that's not normal.

Other Thoughts:

If you are going on vacation in Virginia Beach, or a local getting into the game this course is worth a visit. Every hole has at least a couple different lines to take. The trees are not thick like I'm used to in western Maryland, they are more spaced out, but the course is well designed in this environment. This course rewards a good gameplan and well placed shots. You can get skips for days on this hard sand.

Overall, I think it's a fun course. Clean, well maintained and well marked. Worth playing if you are in the area.

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 17, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I started at Bayville nearly 15 years ago and after moving out of the area played it 5 times this week while visiting the area. The new layout is great and allows you to play 4 different courses.

Tees: Concrete, all in great shape
Signage: Excellent, easy to understand
Baskets: Also great

The holes are challenging but not impossible. The two practice baskets plus benches and trashcans on every hole help this smaller course bat above it's length.

Cons:

It can get crowded on weekends. The primary crowd is a little rougher around the edges than other courses I've played. The leaves are an issue in the Fall but there could be snow so leaves are a small price to pay.

Other Thoughts:

While there's not a huge grassy bomb on this course it has everything else you'd want, even a guy selling discs in the parking lot.

Great play while in VA beach 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 9, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Very nice signage at each tee complete with bag hangers for those who like to use them.

-Two well marked tee pads and baskets for every hole.

-While most holes are wooded, they do require a different mix of shots.

-Thank you for not going crazy with mandos. The couple that are present are well placed. Some courses get way to gimmicky with mandos.

-Great next tee singage. This was my first time playing and I never had to consult the course map on my phone. Kudos for this!

Course is well maintained. As I was playing there was a guy going around with a blower and making sure all tees were clear of debris.

-Lots of trash cans and benches

Cons:

-Would be nice if they had the area to throw in a couple open holes for more mix.

Other Thoughts:

I played this course around 7:00 a.m. on a Thursday morning and had the disc golf course to myself the entire time. There were a few walkers and joggers, but they never came into play. Large parking area and nice course information board are what you are greeted with. Nice practice basket with plenty of room to warm up located next to parking area. Two tees and baskets for each hole. Both tees have their own signage, which was really nice. I personally played the red tees to the yellow baskets, which gave you a tougher tee shot and shorter basket location. This course is clean and well maintained and provides a lot of shade for those hot summer days. If you are in the VA beach area and looking for a nice round, then don't hesitate to stop by this park.

Reviewed: Played on:May 27, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-This course has a cute use of the space. The park itself is relatively small, but none of the fairways really interfere with one another.

-It's free!

-There is a good variety in hole length and design, with some shots being a bit more open and others being a bit more technical. It has a few unique holes which are fun to experience. (I like throwing to the basket on top of the hill!)

-Lots of trash cans and several benches are placed throughout the park. (Some older reviews mention a lack of these things but the remodel has progressed since then and the amenities have indeed been added.) Also, almost the entire course is in the shade.

-Very entertaining layout with nice tees and two tees/pin positions at every hole.

Cons:

-As the only park in the area, it tends to get busy during peak hours.

-This course is towards the tail end of a redesign. While hole #1 has the new prototype sign posted (it is a very nice quality sign and I am excited for them to be implemented at every hole), the rest of the course is still operating under the system of spray painted numbers on trash cans. Once the signs are finished, the park probably deserves to be bumped up to a 3.5 rating.

Other Thoughts:

-Because of the soil composition, our discs skip an awful lot at this park!

-This is a really great casual park to play at for your daily round. I enjoy playing here a lot as it has challenging holes without being demoralizing. (It's entertaining for skilled and amateur players alike.) It's very good quality and fun, making a great home course and is definitely worth the stop for people passing through.

Good course lots of leaves 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 22, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I really enjoy playing this course especially after the redesign that happened this year. Every hole has at least 2 cement tee pads and several holes have a red and yellow basket so it makes for a great variety of shots and holes. The lines are pretty clear even though it is heavily wooded but still very doable to make it to each basket without hitting trees (no impossible holes).

The course is well maintained and is very user friendly so it was just enjoyable. It also plays quickly and I was able to get in 4 rounds in an afternoon.

One last thing is the nice variety of shots both right and left dog legs, tunnel shots, straight a head and various others.

Cons:

Since the redesign the course does not have updated signage. Even though it is usually clearly marked where the next hole is it still took a little time searching during our first round to find each tee pad. Also the course map is now obsolete.

This is more of a seasonal thing but there were a ton of leaves so finding discs was not always easy.

The course does not circle around the bathroom. There are a lot of cars and waay to many people and not very many bushes. It's a long walk back and you basically have to take the the bike path back or dodge a good fifty discs going threw the course.

Fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 4, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Nice course with good variety. Lots of options with multi tee pads and baskets. Tees easy to find and course is overall very easy to navigate.Very fun when not crowded.

Cons:

This place gets crowded in the early afternoon on any nice day.If you want to play with no crowds, get here early! Some fairways run close so an errant throw can put you on a fairway where you don't wanna be. Lots of big crowds here. I have got stuck behind groups of 5- 8 people playing that ignore the rule of let faster and smaller groups play through. This is why we go elsewhere to play most of the time.

Other Thoughts:

The simple fact is that the hampton roads area needs many more courses to play as big as it is. I find myself and my girlfriend taking the drive to Munden Point where there is never a crowd.

Course of the Future 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 11, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Duh - its at the beach. J/K it is a wonderful course all around. Multiple Tee's and basket placements on all holes.

Cons:

That it isn't closer to my house.

Other Thoughts:

This is the best use of public space I've ever seen. It is dead in the heart of a very populated town but the way the course is designed it like having 6 courses in one. Since they have multiple Tee's and baskets on every hole you can play all day and never see the same hole twice. You can play Red to Red, Red to white, white to gold, blue to gold any combo you can think of and have a completely different experience every time. I think it is the most environmentally friendly design I've ever seen and I think it could be a model for future urbane courses.Play this one, you'll have a blast! and friendly local players.

NOB sailor likes the "hometown" course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 30, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A nice flat course with easy tee-to-basket sight.

Moderately wooded which gives the course a challenge for skilled and amateur players alike.

The course was recently remodeled, so it seems like a brand new course to play.

Two tees and two baskets on each hole give the course a nice variety when playing.

Easy to follow layout with hole numbers on each trash can at each tee.

Two practice baskets to help with overcrowding while practicing your putts.

There's a port-a-potty near the parking lot for "quick use" and a larger building with both male and female restrooms for the "extended stay".

Cons:

Lots of dead leaves on the ground make it difficult to find discs that slide under them.

There are still a lot of "divots and potholes" so be careful when treading on the dead leaves. I've almost twisted my ankle more than once.

A huge amount of overcrowding can be a problem when traveling with a group. I seem to do just fine when traveling solo, but I still have to play through a few groups.

The course seems a bit cramped between holes. If you miss the fairway on one hole, you seem to be on the fairway of another. It's very close quarters.

Other Thoughts:

After the remodeling, there are no benches at any of the holes. Apparently, the city had ordered the wrong benches and are waiting for the correct ones to arrive. It's been about three weeks since the remodeling and I've yet to see any benches placed on the course. I'm not sure when they will be there, so plan on standing the whole time or taking a seat on the ground. It doesn't bother me at all, but for some it's a hassle.

Pretty Good 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 29, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Concrete tee pads

- Nice park

- Clean

- Trashcans aplenty

- Two tees & two pins at each hole

- Relatively easy navigation

- Good variety of pin placements to allow several different shot variations

- Locals selling new & used equipment on site

- Local club has offers many events throughout the year and they're posted prominently on the bulletin board at #1

Cons:

- Really busy course. Like CRAZY busy. I guess with this really being the only legitimate course in Virginia Beach it was bound to be packed. However, the over-crowding borders on the ridiculous. Played early in the morning solo and it wasn't too bad -- still had to play through a couple people -- but by the afternoon my buddy and I literally waited on every hole. 6-domes and 7-domes were everywhere and a couple of them were real douchebags.

- Down leaves makes finding your disc difficult

- No topless Hooters girls frolicking along the #8 fairway

Other Thoughts:

I was stationed in Norfolk for three years before I got into disc golf, so when visiting friends for Thanksgiving I was eager to check out the local layout and introduce my buddy to the game. Bayville came as advertised and was the perfect course to teach my friend and his son. Being a fairly open course but having enough woodland to make it challenging, they enjoyed the rounds immensely.

As stated by others, this is a perfect course to introduce new players to the game, but with the alternate tees and baskets on each hole it will definitely give advanced players a run for their money. The course got really busy when we were there, but the locals were friendly and weren't shy about letting faster groups play through. Get there early if you want a fast round.

All in all, Bayville is definitely worth checking out if you find yourself in the Hampton Roads area.
