Surprisingly challenging 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 6, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Surprisingly challenging, even the shorts. I landed several shots in makeable putt territory, but trees made for a challenging putt.
- Beginner friendly.
- Requires a variety of shots. Forehands, forehand flexs, spike hyzers, low ceiling flex shots, etc, etc.
- I really liked the visuals and carrying trouble on holes 1 and 2.

Cons:

- I played a sunny holiday afternoon, so I'm not sure of typical foot traffic, but this place was HAMMERED with people.
- Navigation was a little tricky. I never found the white "tees" and I'm still not sure if I played #9 as designed.
- It didn't seem to be a very educated crowd. People picked up my disc twice and I had people throw into me twice.

Other Thoughts:

My first instinct was to give this course a 2 due to crowds and navigation, but it was actually very fun. Next time I'm in Lincoln and have a day off, I'll try to hit this place early in the morning and grab breakfast at Hi-Way Diner.

Better than 2.5 stars 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 15, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Technical oriented. Very short, but not a lot of straight holes. Nice balance for left of right handers.

Cons:

Large swamp near the start is a factor on 1 and 9. 2019 it's cleaned up pretty well, but often there is too much water to mow and it's a disc eater.

Other Thoughts:

Not a power player course. Only one hole a monster drive is a factor. Really levels the playing field between power players and precision players. I don't see a lot of power players liking it, but I would call it a 4 or strong 3.5.

Risk vs Reward? 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 19, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Between the trees, streams, and bends, this course has obstacles that can be fun and challenging to work around. Additionally, this course is hardly ever busy so you can play through with minimal distractions or waiting for other players.

Cons:

The stream that snakes through the course is more run off than fresh water. If your disc gets into it and you wade in after it to retrieve, expect your legs/feet to run up a stink on your car ride home.

Other Thoughts:

The stream is populated by some sort of weasel. Our group calls/called him Chester. He seems like a chill dude.

Solid little track 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 8, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very different than most other courses in the Lincoln and Omaha metros. Holes 3-8 are all EXTREMELY wooded and frankly a blast to play. I'd consider this a pretty beginner-friendly course too, since the shortest set of tees are quite short (the majority of holes can be reached by a putter or mid by an experienced player). Shot shaping is absolutely the most valuable skill set here; I don't think I've ever thrown so many forehand flex shots with an overstable putter before. Course is well marked with a decent tee sign for every hole; we had a little bit of navigation issues, but that was solely due to snow covering up some teepads.

Cons:

Infrastructure wasn't great--baskets appeared to be old Mach 2's and even though the course identifies three sets of tees, the middle set is just dirt/grass. Still, two sets of concrete tees for a little 9-hole track is nothing to sneeze at. The course will likely feel too short for most players. Only Hole 2 (300ish) and Hole 9 (400+) really give you a chance to stretch your arm out, while multiple holes play less than 200 ft. The lack of length combined with only being a 9-hole course will probably leave many serious players unsatisfied.

Other Thoughts:

Don't let the 2.5* rating fool you -- I really enjoyed this course and would absolutely play it again. But with the exception of Holes 2 and 9 I found myself really only needing three discs: OS putter, flippy putter, & workhorse mid. As such, I have a hard time rating the course any higher than "decent." If you're looking for a fun little pitch 'n' putt in the woods though, then this is the course you're looking for.

Other Thoughts:

A short, technical course. Just make sure to watch your disc closely or you might not find it in the rough that gets pretty rough!

Good accuracy test 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 17, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course offers multiple tees that will provide you with a different look from different positions. Also there are 2 sets of pins placements to mix it up a bit.
The signage is adequate and the pads are plenty long.
The flow is logical(at least from the red tees in which I played). The course and grounds were well maintained upon my visit.
There are low ceiling shots, dog leg L/R shots, and a bit of water threat on 1 and 7 in particular.
This course offers you a couple of open holes like 1 and 9 and then several wooded holes on the interior of the course.
There are some good lines to be hit here in order to score well.
There are other amenities in the park too.

Cons:

The rough can get rough and disc loss could be possible so keep an eye on where you land. This would be especially true during the summer months when the vegetation is in full growth.
This course can get crowded at times so if you think you are going to play speed golf here you might want to plan accordingly.
Could use some trash cans, however upon my visit there were trashbags hanging from the red tee markers.
Crossing the creek on hole 7 to retrieve an arrant shot is treacherous at best. Maybe a footbridge and some clearing on the east side of the creek could be done to help with this problem?

Other Thoughts:

Overall this is a solid 9 holer that should challenge but not frustrate players. Its not a grip and rip park style course, and thats a good thing. You will have to have a decent and accurate short game at this course. This course is a good compliment to Max Roper across town.
If you have the time while you are in Lincoln and want to get warmed up before you hit Max Roper then hit this course up. I think you will be surprised by this little 9 holer.

In 2013 the club renovated the course. All holes have tee signs and baskets, fairways have been trimmed back and are well defined.

Cons:

Some holes are short and require precision for a drop in 2.

Other Thoughts:

Holes 6 & 7 look like throw and hope, requires imagination to find the best route.

Short But Fun 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 2, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Dual tees on most (all?) holes. There was snow covering the blues which were just boxes with no signs so I wasn't sure if all holes had them. Some of the holes it made a huge difference and was a totally different shot. Hole 2 includes a water hazzard on the blue tee.
-Nice course map at the start, take a peek at that.
-Probably won't lose your discs here. The woods aren't too dense and the shots are fairly short so you can watch your disc.
-Multiple pin positions on most holes.
-Signs by the red tees are pretty good. You may have to scout which location the basket is at.
-Good concrete pads for both reds and blues.
-Good variety of holes, some wooded, some open, some straight, some doglegs. A few longer holes thrown in. The second set of pads makes for a good 18.
-Looks like a decent discing community- signs for winter leagues, a superclass tourney, and an ice bowl were posted.
-Probably not busy, I assume more traffic goes to the 27 holer across town.
-It doesn't look like this part of the park gets much use. There is a shelter and playground behind the first tee but they shouldn't come into play. Decent parking lot. You can bring the kids, park seemed pretty safe.
-Good place for learning the game as it forces a few different shots without making them too hard. There are a variety of lanes on the wooded holes if you look for them.
-A few ace runs.

Cons:

-Navigation was worse than expected for a fairly short, mostly park type course. The flow wasn't really there. Maybe it is better without 3" of snow?
-Basket 7 was straight up missing. There was a pole where I think it was supposed to be.
-Overall short course. Not overly challenging.
-Grafiti painted on two tee signs.

Other Thoughts:

I had fun at this course but based on the other reviews, it may be better played in the winter. That keeps the trash hidden, vandals inside, and woods down. I thought it was rather pleasant and I enjoyed my rounds here (one from each tee). I would go back but if it was in the summer, I would be prepared to expect worse than my review. I am surprised that Lincoln cannot at least keep up the two disc golf courses that they have and I would usually expect a city of this size to have more than 2. I went to school in a town of 20K and they had 3! Lincoln is not a disc golf destination but if you are here I would recommend Roper over this course by a bit but I do think that one is overrated and this one is underrated.

Very rough. I am sure those that try to keep this course up do their best, but it is overgrown, baskets & signs missing,(Vandals) Just needs work.

If you want to go to Lincoln for D.G., go to Waverly or Max, then try Mahoney state park.

Avoid Until Renovation 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 11, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

There were not many pros about this course. Holes 1 and 9 are actually very unique open shots, especially 9 which starts as a forest tee shot and ends up in an open field. The course is also located in a fairly central location in Lincoln making access to it fairly easy.

Cons:

Too many to list all of them, but a few are that the wooded area of the course has a high concentration of vandalism of the tee signs and the pins. Three of the pins in the woods were actually missing when we went to play. With the course hardly maintained the grass in the open areas gets very long making discs hard to find, and the obvious overgrowth in the woods makes some shots more than challenging and bordering on absurd.

Other Thoughts:

This course was a pretty big mistake in planning due to the vandalism in the wooded parts. If this course was better designed throughout the open area and maybe 1 or 2 wooded area holes it would actually be quite fun. Finding the alternate tee pads is frustrating and there is a lack of flow throughout the entire course. I would avoid this and spend the extra 10-15 minutes to drive out to Roper.

Ice Bowl 2012 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 8, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course forces you to make a lot of risk versus reward choices. A lot of times you see a window to the hole but you know your chances are slim of success if to try to throw it in that window so it tests your decision making ability. I really enjoyed getting to play this course the day before the Ice Bowl 2012 and today with other more experienced players. Without a guide you can find your way around but it can be confusing the first time. I really enjoyed holes 3 - 8 because they challenge you to throw through tight windows at times.

Cons:

The course has some extra tee pads currently that are left over from previous holes or tee pad positions that can be confusing to first time players and although the maps do a good job of displaying the layout they do not explain the purpose of the old tees so players who are new to the course don't get confused.

Other Thoughts:

Good course that I would recommend to anyone in the area to expose areas of their short to midrange game that are lacking.

New layout is more logical. Still needs some cleanup work. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 22, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Decent rec to intermediate course with three tee boxes on every hole. Some cool, albeit short wooded holes. Despite this being a mixed use park, most of the course is out of the way of other activities. Fun for winter time play when there's no foliage and lines open up. Good tee signs with all tee-pin distances located at the red tees. Wooded shots despite their short length in most cases, require some precision.

Cons:

Some pretty dull under 200' pitch and putt holes that just didn't excite me. Not terribly well maintained in the woods as there are a lot of dead limbs around. Gets overgrown in the summer. White (middle) tees can be hard to find. Some sign and nickel vandalism. Hole 9 tee sign is missing.

Other Thoughts:

Tierra has always had a reputation as a niche course compared to the 27 hole Roper Park course across town. This course has moved slightly over time. The layout here used to be bewildering. You had to walk all the way to the back of the park to get to Tee #1. Now its conveniently located up by the restroom which despite the simple, short hole, improves the flow. Some added trees in the open section to tighten things up would improve things, as would some cleanup in the woods. Not the best in town, but with all the different tees, you can mix it up for variety.

Cons:

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 11, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Most of the holes on the course are wooded, providing a decent number of tight technical shots.
-Multiple tee positions to throw from for each hole
-Course is acceptibly maintained in the early part of the season, but becomes more unkempt as time goes on.
-Hole 2 from the alternate tee features a nice left turn over water to get to the basket.
-Water comes into play on 1-2 holes.

Cons:

-The holes on this course are rather short, even when using the long tees.
-On holes #1(alternate tee), 2(both tees), and 9(both tees), the fairways cross walking paths where people are usually riding bikes through the park.
-Layout of course can be confusing for people who havent played here before.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, this is a decent course to practice your midrange technique. The only opportunity to really let loose is from the alternate tee for hole 1. The course is only 9 holes, but playing through a second time from the alternate tees really adds a different approach to how you play the course.

Neglected 2+ years drive by

Pros:

This course has the potential to be a solid, short, wooded course that would make a nice alternative to the larger more open course in Lincoln.

Cons:

The wooded holes are severely overgrown with weeds making it difficult to locate discs even on good throws (there is really no "fairway" left). Two of the nine baskets are missing making it hardly worthwhile to make a trip to this course.

I find it amazing that a community the size of Lincoln cannot maintain two disc golf courses.
