Pros: +concrete tee pads
+park map at start
+beautiful view, well taken care of park
+not crowded or busy
+can hang DG bag on tee signs (a plus in my book)
+good use of elevation, trees, and lake
Cons: -baskets could use some up keep (but Ive seen worse)
-several short holes makes for easy birdies
-the short holes feel a bit repetitive
-fairly open off of the lake so it can be windy (it was crazy windy when I played)
Other Thoughts: not an overly challenging course but I enjoyed the pit stop on my way home from camping. It was very peaceful park with a few people coming and going on the memorial day holiday but it was not busy at all. during the hour or so it took me to play a full 18 there was one other couple on the course.

TIP1: take a picture of the map at hole 1 on your phone before playing for the first time. due to size constraints the layout can be confusing.

TIP2: hole number one is at the top of the hill in the middle of the park near the pavilion. if you park on the lake-ward side its a shorter walk to hole 1

I would recommend playing here but the locals might have different recommendations.

  Wicked course

Pros: Beautiful! Many signature holes and a couple of ace runs. the front nine has lots of shade.
Cons: Lay out is a little confusing, but if you have a map you'll be aight.
Other Thoughts: All around this is an amazing course, it defiantly doesn't have the rating it deserves. If your passing through Waco to play Circle C Metro in Austin, defiantly make a pit stop for this one!

Pros: *Sturdy reflective tee pad markers. You can hang a shoulder bag on them.
*Concrete tees
*Nice park
*Drinking water fountain
*Lots of police security
*Good parking
*Big course map at tee pad #1
Cons: *Uneven tee pads that get muddy from run off
*Baskets could use some repair or replacement
Other Thoughts: This course is 18 baskets in a tight layout that makes great use of the space and terrain.

Sure, the tee pads are uneven and so are the baskets. The baskets are also mostly one chain type. Put it all together and it somehow works to make this course a special kind of charming.

Also, it had rained pretty good on Saturday. By Tuesday, the place was fairly dry. No standing water and not a lot of mud. It's grassy.

  Quick Update From a Local

Pros: Plans are underway to update the facilities out there. Right now there is a Port-o-John in the parking lot and more permanent structures are on the way. All the broken or stolen baskets have been replaced, and some of the deadfall has been cleaned up from the wooded areas. Also, in the past the course wasn't mowed regularly but they keep the grass pretty low now.
Cons: Even though some of the baskets have been replaced, most of them are still in rough conditions. I think Hole #2's basket sits about two feet off the ground. Most of the baskets still have the six-inch chastity belts that are vexing for long putts. Some of the tee boxes are still a little off as well.
Other Thoughts: Woodway cops are probably worse than anything you've heard about them, but that doesn't stop a lot of players from bringing along a six pack. The cops really just care about speeders, so be careful on the way in and out. There isn't a lot of shade and only one water fountain so be sure to plan accordingly. The entire OB area opposite the lake is ringed with Poison Ivy- keep that in mind when looking for stray discs. And look out for the children on the playground. The last time I was out there I lost my driver in the wind and nearly killed one.

 Needs a basket upgrade

Pros:
Nice views and nice elevation/hills on this course. In general big-arm players need not apply; this course rewards accurate players with a buffet of birdies. There are only two long holes here where added distance is of value. Baskets placed on hillsides and below trees demand accurate lines be hit to score well. Wind coming off the lake usually adds a significant challenge. Concrete tee boxes are appreciated here. Tee signs are visible and marked with hole numbers but lack distances. The course flows well and you can navigate pretty easily without a map.
Cons:
A rare type of basket here: single chain DISCatchers. No restrooms on site. Could use a few longer holes to add more balance. Bad tee shots will typically be recoverable with a decent upshot to save your '3'.
Other Thoughts:
Woodway is a pretty average course in the grand scheme of disc golf, nothing that you'll really love and nothing that will keep you from coming back. Don't be fooled by the "multiple tee" listing here: only two holes actually have two pads. We were warned that the local traffic authorities are strict around here so beware.

Pros: Very quiet, not many people go here. Very little traffic on course. Well maintained. Variety of shots.
Cons: little elevation changes. Wind from lake can be strong.
Other Thoughts: My favorite course so far mostly because it is well layed out, has good tees and baskets, and very few people.

Pros: Great location using elevation, OB, tunnels, and wind. This is a great course to work on your shots as most holes allow a wide variety of shots.
Well designed to use the multiple parking locations. Easy to start at 6+ holes. Park at the main parking and you will pass your car twice before you reach 13.

Big map at top of hill by hole 1. Open and beginner friendly, hole 7 and 17 two tee's.
Cons: Single chain baskets that are showing their age. Replacements for stolen or damaged baskets have been DB-5's.
Some tee pads are no longer level.
The wind can be brutal. If its windy in town it will be worse at this course.
No stores close, you are at the dead end of a long residential road.
Other Thoughts: Wooday is a small suburb of Waco. That being said they have their own small town police force, dont speed or do anything stupid and its all gravy.

This is one of my local courses.
New baskets, longer level tee pads, and signage would easily make this a 3.5.
Add that and change a couple of holes and/or add a few to the current setup and this course has everything needed to be a 4.

Pros: I just played an ace race here. So they changed up the tee boxes because the mystery disc was a dang putter. it looked pretty fun to play if you were a local.
Cons: Not too many challenging shots. There are 2 holes right next to the lake. Say bye bye to your disc on a windy day. sheesh. But I have seen worse courses and then again I have seen much much better.

Pros: The wind coming off the lake adds to the difficulty of an otherwise straightforward course. A few of the holes are placed nicely inside wooded areas. A very quick-playing course if you're in a hurry.
Cons: Feels a little compact for 18(17, actually) holes. If you park in the lot near the lake, you can see about half of the baskets while just standing at your car. The scenery from hole to hole leaves much to be desired.
Other Thoughts: Talking to a local, the basket for hole #4 was stolen a while back and has yet to be replaced. Seems like a nice enough course if you happen to live in a nearby neighborhood.

Elevation & Lake Wind = Great Course

Pros: Woodway Park has an interesting mix of elevation shots, a few tight lines, as well as open air holes for big arms. The elevation itself is a natural ridge along the lakeside and the designer maximizes the play back and forth over the hill. While no elevation shot is dramatic, it's is a constant presence, which is great bonus on this northern edge of hill country. The concrete tees are nice and the signage is basic, but better than nothing. There is a good course flow, and even without the big map at hole one, you'll be able navigate without much problem.

If you are a fan of ace runs, there are multiple opportunities, but at the same time, trees are well placed so you will have to be accurate. The overall look of the park is fantastic along the waters of Lake Waco, and the whole place is very well maintained. There is a playscape for the kids, but there are no restrooms so be prepared.

BEST HOLE/S: #2; #17
Cons: I talked to a local who referred to the course and Windway since you always have lake effect wind even of a calm sunny day. This is very apparent along the water and on top of the course. And while it's a beautiful layout, it's fairly straight forward with no real epic holes.

As already mentioned, there are no bathrooms and it's a long winding drive to get to the park that is oh so close to the highway. The signage could definitely be improved, and although the grass is well maintained, there are no trashcans or facilities other than the playscape that is precariously close to the first hole.

WORST HOLE/S: #6
Other Thoughts: Woodway is a quality course, and due to the construction going on at William Cameron Park and Cameron Park East, is the most complete course in the Waco area. Even though no particular hole stands out in the crowd - it's worth noting that there weren't any holes that I thought were throwaways. This is the perfect course for a casual round to help build the skills necessary when playing elevation and wind.

Ultimately, Woodway Park didn't blow me away, but it will make you better and is still easy enough for the casual amateur to have a great time. but is certainly a place I would love to tackle again whenever I'm in the Waco area. I think it's underrated since most Waco disc golf talk is centered on "The Beast," so just don't forget about it when you're here.
