So, how did you play today? Part II

Today, the Texas heat hit with the high humidity. Brutal, even playing at 8 in the morning. High 80s, high humidity and I went through two large thermoses of water. I was soaked. If I scored correctly, practice round so that is debatable, best score ever..

    "The Method" by Brian Weissman

The more I watch players in my cohort the more I believe strength and fitness must come before technique. I am 66 years old and have been following video instruction since I started playing in 2014. I am limited by lack of flexibility and strength. I am better than many of my age group...

Old Farts Only 40+ (no kids allowed)

Au Contraire! I love jazz, especially the 50s jazz. A quiet round is preferred.

    Starting from scratch.

We all have a limited amount of bandwidth. Give yourself grace. The game is just fine played for fun. When things settle down then get serious about the game again if you want to. Some rounds are pure magic and some nothing goes right.

    Dallas/FW April 20th or 21st

There is a mini at Fritz every Saturday at 10 a.m, except for the 2d Saturday of the month. All are welcome, but it skews old. Mini at The Vet on Sunday at 10 a.m. and Friday evening at 6. Fridays are dubs. Turner is a fantastic course.

    DFW disc golf

Which courses were the best of the best? Guessing that he played Lester Lorch, Z Boaz and Veteran's Park. Very good parks, but not sure I would call them the very best.

Old Farts Only 40+ (no kids allowed)

I do not mind people talking while I throw, but music bugs the dickens out of me, especially the heavy metal, Hip Hop etc the youngsters play. I could probably tolerate slow jazz or Bee Bop, but nobody listens to jazz at a disc golf park.

    Form critique request

Anatomy makes all the difference. Yet, watching Simon and Gurthie from the back their form looks very similar and much simpler from the back. They appear to stride into the throw at a measured pace and use their front leg as a lever to throw around. And I wonder why I am not able to achieve...

Disc Golf & Mountain Bike Conflict

I will not play in a park with Mountain bikes. They are dangerous. I have played at a park in Fort Worth with bikers and was almost run over a number of times. Walkers probably say the same about us.

You can only carry 3 discs a driver, mid, and a putter. What do you choose?

Oh man, you have an Air King.. Finding air discs became almost impossible during Covid. Air Kings and Air Bolts are still really hard to find. How does the Fuzion plastic differ from Lucid?

Discussion - Thoughts on how you choose your putter

My choice depends on what I am doing. Am I putting into the wind? then my hard Sinus. If it is calm I might use my soft Sinus. If I am outside circle 1 then I use a different motion and I might use a Dagger instead for a floaty type throw.

    DFW disc golf

There is a church in Duncanville called Crossroads. It has, when maintained, the hardest course in DFW. I have played Harry Myers, Heritage, Veterans and Z Boaz. All are excellent courses. Crossroads is very near to Lester Lorch, which are two of the most scenic courses in DFW...

    DFW disc golf

I recently heard from a Parks Board member that Turner will not be closed. It is still a great course.

    DFW disc golf

By Burleson, do you mean BiCenttenial? It used to be a very good 18 hole course, but the City started converting sections to into a Dog Park, etc. It has been at least seven years since I played there.

True Reason Why Disc Golf Isn't Becoming Main Stream

Popular sports are popular with children. Disc golf requires a large amount of space. Anyone who lacks easy access to a park or at least a large vacant area is not going to be able to do more than putt. I did not play football, baseball or basketball because of my parents. I played those...

    Best color for the woods?

Good for you. Maybe it is easy where you are, but I avoid blue and black. I want pink, orange, red and in the summer even green discs stand out in drought stricken Texas.

    Struggling with putting

MIght watch Wysocki's youtube video on putting. He uses his body to get power into his throw. You need power and accuracy.

Old Farts Only 40+ (no kids allowed)

You have some good suggestions above, especially about listening to a doctor first. As an older player my pain usually comes when I start playing after too much time off. I need to play frequently and/or do other exercise to maintain enough muscle strength and flexibility to avoid pain. Once...

Physical and Mental Fatigue and Overload

Play for the JOY, not the score. Give yourself grace, forgiveness. Mistakes are normal. Mistakes are how we learn. Play to learn and ignore your score. Play with people who like to have fun. I started playing disc golf when I was 57 with a friend. I promise we had a few 99s for an 18...

Old Farts Only 40+ (no kids allowed)

Some of us started late and have never been able to throw a Roc, Buzz, Compass or other slow mid, or even a fast Mid 300 feet. I am happy to get my Escape or other driver out that far. Congratulations on the weight loss. I could stand to lose 50 pounds.
