Looks like a great collector you have there!
I'm sure you're familiar with the Ion History Page on our website. This one certainly falls into the third generation. This one would fall into the 20% category with "double ring sprue" but without "two air ejectors".
The dot you see is an impression of an air ejector hole from the overmold process. This generally will vary throughout the course of the overmold run depending on the machine clamp tonnage at that point in the run (the higher the machine clamp tonnage would mean it would be more likely to leave the "dot" impression on the core). I do not recall how many would or would not have this dot. However, this dot is something that came and went throughout a few of the generations. It wouldn't really be an indicator of "which run" it come from since it would vary throughout the runs.
Hope that helps answer your question. Thanks for your continued support!

From ION history:
Third Generation (began approximately May 2010)
Approximately 10,000 produced.
Ion hot stamp debuted in Third generation.
A few different configurations:
Most common configuration would be similar to second generation, but cleaner bead (~70%)
Next configuration was double ring sprue (~20% and only produced in Medium Ions)
