Pros:
Playing here at the Brian Piccolo County Park DGC sure brings back memories of the 1971 movie, "Brian's Song." One thing is sure, this county park is well signed. I saw the first sign back on I-75 about five miles from the park. The park is a fairly large county park with a very popular walking path, lots of ballfields, picnic areas, racquetball courts and more. The disc golf course sits back at the rear of the park near the racquetball courts and then plays out to the street and back. This 9 hole course is a solid recreational throw. It won't challenge the better players but definitely provides a fun little experience for most of us.
At the start, you'll find a nice course sign complete with course map. There are two concrete pads for each hole and the tee signs are small metal ones showing the distance from both pads. The baskets are DGA Chainstars with the hard to read red numbers on top. There is also a number on the inside pole. It's always the simple little 9 hole courses like this that are the most well marked.
Distances from the regular tees, where the tee signs are, are between 265' and 368'. The shorter pads are usually about 75-100' shorter. There are some great tee pad locations. The course designers did a nice job setting them on some of the small rises or in the case of # 3, tucked up tight against the fence.
Cons:
The # 6 basket has been jumped up and down on. It's somewhat bent down.
Thick Florida grass would be very soggy after a rain = very wet shoes.
You'll most likely have to wait for passing walkers on a couple of holes.
Wind.
Holes 8 & 9 are open and kinda boring.
Other Thoughts:
When I stepped up to throw on # 4, I thought, "What a cool hole." The basket was set just past this small gauntlet of trees. I was pretty disappointed when I discovered, I was seeing basket # 6. The # 4 basket is placement is OK but not as cool as in that gauntlet of trees. But hey! If I ever came back here, I'd play this hole to the # 6 basket and no-one would know or care!
