Pros:
- DISCatcher baskets showing some age but still catching well
- hole numbers on baskets
- good length for a nine hole course
- some gently rolling hills bring limited elevation change
- can park at the adjacent church
- some limited tree hazards in middle of course
- out and back design mostly returns to start
- well maintained school grounds
Cons:
- no marked tees or tee signs
- not a ton of obstacles or technical challenge
- unplayable during and school athletics events
- could use a bridge over drainage ditch between 6 and 7
- no real amenities
- no navigation aids although flow is pretty logical
Other Thoughts:
Brown Deer High School is actually one of the more decent nine hole courses in an area filled with quite a few duds. With tees and tee signs, I might even be tempted to bump this up to a 2. As it stands today, the 1.5 might be a bit of a stretch, but it's a fairly decent course despite the lack of clarity.
The baskets are still in decent shape and the length is solid, though there's no clarity on where to throw for the next hole after hitting the prior basket. This sort of design really frustrates me, but if you're up for safari golf this is your place. I would probably not try to play here during school hours, but school starts late (early September) in this area, so I was still able to play on a weekday without issue.
There are some gently rolling hills on one side of the school grounds which are incorporated here. The course mostly plays around the athletic fields and stays out of the way, but it is most definitely part of a multi-use area. Some of the holes have some limited tree hazards so it's not all wide open, and you will need your driver for the length here. That said, there's not a ton of technical challenge and this is still a fairly open course.
This isn't going to be a great course because its too easy and open for intermediate players and up, but the distance is a bit long for beginners. It just doesn't fit any particular need. It's so-so on the enjoyment factor, but respectable enough for a quick round. If you're looking for a fun nine hole course I'd head further north to Lime Kiln Park.
