Pros:
(2.126 Rating) A typical parkstyle niner with a nice downhill shot to end it.
- BASICS - Dartmouth starts out right. There's a big and beautiful course map posted between the parking area and tee (1). Both the tee signs and tee pads are well constructed. The pads are on the small side, but the short hole distances makes the pad size adequate enough. Baskets are DISCatchers and they are all in great shape. The gameplay is targeted to MA4s and perhaps low end MA3s. Players will need to miss a tree or two on most holes. It felt like disc golf "lite".
- NAVIGATION AND SIGNAGE - As noted, posted course map and great tee signs. All the required info is on them. No one is getting lost here. The course is very cart friendly and plays in a loop where basket (9) is near tee (1). The gap between (6) and (7) is the only modest flow issue.
- PARK MAINTENANCE - Dartmouth Commons is a fully maintained park. No chance to find wicked overgrowth and no chance to lose a disc unless it ends up high in a tree or a player forgets to pick up.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - I went with 55 percentile. The maintenance of the park is by far the best aesthetics' aspect. There are a few bigger trees, plenty of flower beds and it's professionally landscaped in general. There are also partial views of downtown Halifax from the course, but nothing iconic like the downtown view of Austin Texas from Zilker Park or the downtown view of Jacksonville Florida from Springfield DGC. The tee views here at Dartmouth Commons just felt too ordinary, despite these nice aspects. There was also a homeless person sleeping inside of circle 2 on hole (6).
- QUICK PLAY - I played it in 15 minutes. I did jog a bit as I was trying to bag one more afterwards, which didn't happen.

- SUBPAR CHALLENGE AND VARIETY - The reason I am scoring Dartmouth Commons just a solid 2.0 is because the gameplay is simple to the core. I just can't get into sub 200-foot (61-meters) shots with between zero and two trees in play, and that's basically the whole set-up here. Hole (3) is the longest at 270-feet. Hole (8) was ok because it's the one moderately wooded play. Hole (9) was the only good hole to me as you have to hit a modest gap and it plays down 20-feet (6-meters) in elevation. The gameplay exhilaration here probably just makes my top 450 out of 697 courses played. I've played several school courses with more pizazz than this layout.

Other Thoughts:
Dartmouth Commons is going to be the easiest bag for those flying into Halifax. It's easy to follow and goes quick. It will work well for local MA3s and 4s whom I'm sure throw multiple rounds when time allows. If I lived nearby, I'm sure I'd throw it weekly if not daily. Despite these pleasant words, Dartmouth is far from my ideal type of course due to the simplicity of it. Overall, a solid 2.0 course to me. I could be talked into a 2.25 with long tees and some benches. It reminded me of courses like Odell in Fredericton NB, Little Mountain in Vancouver BC, Telulah near Appleton Wisconsin, Two Rivers in Nashville, Porter Park in DWF and Vance Park in Portland Oregon.

Good tee signs, even though all holes are visible from the tee
Located in a nice downtown park
Does a good job staying away from the park walking paths
Nice, beginner friendly layout
Good use of elevation, uphills, downhills, sidehills and flat holes

Cons:
Not a lot of challenge from intermediate and up players
Ground was very soggy in a few spots, hopefully this is temporary
#6 heads away from the other holes, then you need to walk back that length to #7
Parking lot is kind of small, could get crowded on busy days
Looks like a popular park, other users may be in the way at times.

Other Thoughts:
The course info says this was installed in the summer of 2022 to judge interest in the sport, since it is still here, that must be a good sign. Dartmouth is located right across the harbor from Halifax, the Capital of Nova Scotia. With a population over 400,000 it would be nice if this area had more courses than this one. (There is another course about 30 mins outside of Halifax, but something closer would be nice for a city this size.)
All of the holes here are primarily straight, with a little bit of shot shaping needed. They range from 150' to 255', so not super short, but manageable for most newbies.
I didn't see any restrooms or water avaialble when I was there, so plan accordingly, although you probably won't be here very long, unless you play multiple rounds.
The Park is very well taken care of, well landscaped and no debris laying around, its located on a hillside overlooking the harbor and Halifax, a really cool setting.
