Good Feelings at Goodfield Park

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 25, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

- practice basket
- large concrete tees
- very nice full color tee signs with maps
- decent baskets that catch well enough
- well manicured park with gently rolling hills
- lightly wooded with just a bit of technical challenge
- dual concrete tees on some holes
- long tees add decent distance to course

Cons:

- multiuse park with some safety hazards
- hole 6 throws directly over walking path
- a few holes play fairly close to train tracks
- a little hole length variety but overall on the shorter side
- navigation mostly straightforward but openness makes some areas less clear
- starts to feel a bit repetitive

Other Thoughts:

Goodfield Park is a very well manicured park that shares disc golf with several other activities. The gently rolling hills and lightly wooded terrain don't offer up a ton of technical challenge, but do make for a picturesque setting. The equipment here is good and the concrete tees (sometimes dual) are a notable part of the course.

The biggest cons here are safety related. There are walking paths everywhere and when I was in the park, a photographer was shooting family photos. Sometimes these park courses just are too risky. You'll have to be careful as this park does look like it gets a fair number of non-disc golf visitors at times. Otherwise, the course just feels a bit repetitive and the lengths are pretty similar. It's a perfectly nice place for a round if you aren't expecting much in the way of uniqueness. You can probably complete a round in 30 minutes solo here.

The parking lot had ample space and for beginners this is a nice, casual place to play. There wasn't much in the way of major hazards or OB to lose discs in. No reason not to play here, just nothing to go out of your way for. There isn't really anything compelling I can say about this courses besides the fact it is very well maintained and has perfectly serviceable disc golf.

Great warm-up round for other courses in the area 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 21, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

+ Great course equipment. The course is only a year or so old, so a highlight of the course is the new baskets, the fresh tee pads, the big course map at the beginning, and the tee signs. In this area, the course gets an A+

+ For nine holes with two tees, this course is great for beginners from the shorts and will challenge experienced players from the longs.

+ This area of the course is exclusive to disc golf. You won't have to worry about throwing around playgrounds, soccer fields, basketball courts, etc. However, there are places you can definitely drop off the kids to entertain themselves if they're getting annoying.

+ The design is pretty fun and safe. It starts and end by the parking lot.

Cons:

- This course is "park disc golf". What I mean by that, is that elevation change is minimal and trees are pretty sparse. However, the trees that are present are utilized well in the design.

- No real "wow" signature hole. It's just your standard central Illinois disc golf course.

Other Thoughts:

All in all, this is a great warm-up round for nearby courses such as the ones in Eureka, Morton, Pekin, or Peoria. If you're in the area, this is a quick one to bag, but it's definitely not a destination course. It is, however, a great and welcome addition to an already hopping disc golf scene.
