Pros:
- maintenance seems decent
- there are indeed 9 baskets here currently
- a very minor amount of elevation change is incorporated
- if school isn't going on, you should have the space to yourself
- decent distance for a nine hole course
Cons:
- no tee signs or tees
- navigation is confusing... /nonexistent
- plays around athletic fields and cannot be played when any school events are going on
- baskets are old and showing age; only one layer of chains
- no amenities
- long walks between a few holes that are unnecessary
- hole 9 (whichever one it is) does not end near the start of the course
- fails to make use of wooded areas right next to school fields
- holes 8 and 9 are virtually unplayable with baskets on athletic fields
- virtually no obstacles besides chain link fences
Other Thoughts:
Let's face it, most school courses are pretty mediocre as a general rule. However, there are a few gems out there - I'd direct you all to North Lakeland way up in Manitowish Waters, WI if you want to try something better! Sadly, Homestead High School is one of the worst. Many courses in this area seem to have skipped tees, tee signs, and any navigational clarity whatsoever, but even Brown Deer High School down the road put together a better course than this.
I was originally going to skip this course but realized school didn't start until September, so I thought I'd be safe playing here. I ran into preseason soccer practice which made it fairly difficult to play 2-3 holes. Navigation is abysmal here, but I mostly figured it out until holes 8 and 9. It's unclear which are which, and both have baskets INSIDE fenced in athletic areas so I'm not sure how you'd play them. I gave up at that point. Hole 7 also forces you to throw over a few chain link fences; overall the design here is just not good.
There are minimal obstacles besides the fences, and while the length is decent there are length walks between a few holes and most of the course is pretty flat. Holes 1-3 are easy enough to play if the football fields aren't being used, and same for 4-6 if soccer isn't in session. After that the last few holes are pretty janky regardless. When it came time to head back to my car there were multiple locked fences blocking my way and I had to backtrack through a considerable amount of the course to free myself.
There was some prime wooded real estate to the left on holes 4-7, and while I recognize the school boundary may end here, it's a shame this course couldn't include some real holes away from other activities with some nice technical lines. Ah well.
Like others have said, benefit from me playing this abysmal course and go somewhere else, like Lime Kiln Park to the north in Grafton. If you must play them all, I recommend playing here on a weekend or during the summer. You have been warned, this will be a frustrating experience navigating and there aren't many redeeming qualities.
