Pros:
Situated a mile from the banks of the Missouri River, the Kuemmel Park DGC pops up in the tiny town of Glasgow. Seemingly on the edge of nowhere, the course offers nine holes that are short on distance but long on elevation. Mostly open and easy to navigate, the Kuemmel Park DGC is a nice course for novices in a disc-golf-only portion of the park.
Most of the holes range from 180 to 240 feet in distance with the only outlier, Hole #2, being measured at 381 feet (though it seemed shorter). However, most of the holes offer elevation changes - Holes #3 and #8 are the shortest holes but they both require uphill throws. And Hole #9 is a fantastic finishing hole - the downhill design will likely require a fun RHBH hyzer toss around a monster tree.
Navigation is straight forward. Most of the tee signs are located an appropriate, easy-to-see distance from the previous basket.
The fairways are completely grass and there are minimal areas of rough - the main exception being some woods on the left-hand side of Hole #2.
Cons:
Holes #4 through #9 are shoehorned into the same field, which could cause some congestion if multiple parties are visiting the course. With elevation a factor, errant shots could interfere with other players.
The homemade baskets were mediocre. The basket portion was only about half-a-disc deep, making bounce-outs very possible. Also, the top of the basket featured a six-spoke roof, which allows a disc to enter the single-layer of chains through the top (see photo for example).
The natural teepads might be a bit tricky. Some of the holes are in a sloped area, and the respective teepad areas were not level. Precipitation would make teepad conditions slightly treacherous.
Cell phone coverage might be lacking. I was unable to access my favorite scorekeeping app (DGCR, of course!) while playing.
Other Thoughts:
This is an enjoyable little course. While my rating is influenced by the course lacking teepads and featuring inferior baskets, the Kuemmel Park DGC offers a fun design and is an excellent choice for families. The course appears to be well-maintained, allowing for quick rounds in a peaceful environment.
