Whats with Seattle and the lack of signage and descriptions. There are great courses in the area you just typically need a tour guide to navigate.

Definitely challenging; I really like this course. There is always variety to every hole and it's rare when you drive the same way twice in a row. The grass is green and fresh, except for holes 8 through 11. Even the long holes are fun to play!

There is often hole re-arranging without warning. You don't always know if your even throwing to the correct spot until you get there. Parking is sometimes iffy, especially on a beautiful day. Make sure you bring plenty of water or something due to the length of the course. If you pack it in, though, make sure to pack it out.

This is definitely my favorite course in the Seattle area. Just when I think I'm a good player, I play this course and realize I've still got some work to do!

Lakewood King County Park is spread out over a huge area of rolling hills, water, and other complexes. The majority of the park is very well manicured and with the recent changes and even with being so spread out - it's still pretty easy to navigate. Note the interchanges from #6 to #7, #10 to #11, and #13 to #14 as you go through the park. The maps posted on this site are out of date with the current numbers posted on the course.

The majority of holes have two distinct pin placements giving you a fresh look at holes depending on the spot. The pins are showing their age, but are in good shape, and the concrete boxes are great to tee from. Parking is easy, but this will change with the construction.

The biggest pro to me were the elevation changes throughout the park in conjunction with the amount and placement of the trees. There are lots of old growth as well as open areas for all types of players to enjoy themselves. I loved the super long #11 (old #12) hole as well as the big downhill of #8 although the softball field can come into play with a bad shot.

BEST HOLE/S: #5; #11; #14

The biggest con is the impending word that the front five holes of the course may go the way of the dodo when construction starts. Areas by #7 through #10 are already war torn on the far side, so it would be a real shame to see one of the best Seattle courses get destroyed. Thankfully there is enough room to modify the course, but it still won't be the same.

Navigation, although not a huge deal - can be a negative to first timers due to the current changes. We had to guess a few times on the proper pin placement for many holes, and the general direction of the next hole. I would bring the map anyway, because it did help a little in spots.

There's no real integration of water, which is too bad since there is a big lake next to part of the back nine. Maybe it will get incorporated, if there is a redesign. This area of Seattle isn't the greatest either, but it shouldn't be a real issue in the park.

WORST HOLE/S: #1

It looks like Lakewood King County Park is loved by many golfers, which means it should certainly come through any future construction. It was well-balanced and challenging for the intermediate level player, and just has a lot of offer with its length, layout, and terrain features. I really hope construction isn't a big issue, because this is certainly a top Washington course east of the Sound.

great variety of shots including uphill, downhill, blind, and more. its quite challenging to keep par on 18 holes, but i likeit because it pushes me more than my regular course (juel park)

there usually are enough people there that youll always have others around you, and if you are playing after 3:30 or so you will for sure be waiting for groups ahead of you. try and come early

This is by far one of the nicest and most well maintained courses i have played. Not a crowded location with plenty of room for error off the tee. Its a good walk with some rolling hills.

Large parking lot, Clean restrooms, extra large concrete tee pads, Well groomed fairways, friendly locals, mach V baskets with multiple pin locations that are changed weekly. Course offers all skill levels a challenge with elevation changes and long drives and high risk reward pin placements.

Some tee signs had been vandalized making them unreadable. Some occasional dog walkers may hold up your game. Course flow requires a few cut backs or walking back up a hill holes #4-5, 7-8, 11-12 come to mind.

Lakewood King County DGC is sprawled across rolling hills of lush green grass with mature trees throughout with very minimal under brush. There is a beautiful pond and a small marsh in the park, the marsh is the only water hazard. The course layout uses every corner and nook and cranny of the park making every hole just as challenging as the last. Each hole has a lengthy concrete pad, plenty of benches
Keep your eye on your disc they love to roll and roll and roll!

What are the things that people most often look for in a disc golf course? Good hole design, easy navigation from hole to hole, long sturdy teepads, and a challenge every time you begin a round. This course addresses all four of these components and even excels at most of them. There is a great amount of variance in the holes whether it be pure distance, elevation change or well placed hazards. It is very simple to navigate even the first time you play it. It has long concrete teepads, perfect for those who like big run ups to their drive. Simply the best all around course in Seattle, a must play!

Some holes may be a little more frustrating for someone just taking up the game, but courses shouldn't be designed with beginners in mind throughout the whole layout in my opinion.

Hole number 8 is a beautiful signature-esque hole. Long, slightly downhill, and a narrow chute you must thread in order to have a chance at two. If you pull it just right though, very fun to watch this flight path.

Beautifully well-kempt park. Nice fairways with obstacles tastefully used. This course is where you take a newbie to learn how to play. There are so many tee options here. You can effectively play 21 holes by using alternative tees and baskets. Even your young children can have a good time here.

This course is about to be drastically changed. A large community center building will be built (beginning this summer) in the middle of the 18th hole fairway. The result will effectively be the loss of holes 1,2,3,4,5, and 18. A re-design is underway and, better or not, will take place in less park space than we have now.

Very friendly layout, with some elevation change and a little water coming into play. All holes have 2-3 pin locations. It is also nice having SeaTac close. With these two courses together it is the ultimate place to play some golf!
There is plenty of parking available, and restrooms by #14.
All holes have concrete tee pads and top notch baskets.

Some transitions between holes requires you to walk on the fairway of another hole, like #4 to #5, and #11 to #12.
Also hole 3 runs right along peoples fenced it back yards, so keep it low.

Great place for everyone to play, pros to if you are just learning to play.

-Hole diversity
-Hard to lose discs
-Benches at nearly every tee pad

-It was a little difficult to find hole one, drove to wrong entrance of the park.
-Lots of human traffic (not all disc golfers) and fences.

-Very fun course, can't think of much to improve it.

Lakewood is located in a very beautiful park in Southwest Seattle. The local players take great care of this course in the midst of vandalism and trash leavers. The course is mainly open with lots of big lines - bring your imagination!

Deceptive holes - My favorite aspect of this course is how you are constantly thinking about ways to improve your average score on some of these holes. Ones that come to mind are 4, 13, 14, and 17. My first impression of how to play these holes is vastly different than the way I play them now and I expect will be revised in the future as well. There are also a few tricks out there such as the fence bounce hyzer on #3, the fence roller on #2 long, and generally using hillsides effectively (landing "above" the basket) on several other drives.

Multiple ways to approach several holes - Probably due to the openness of the park, there are often many ways to throw a particular hole which allows for different interpretation which is always cool. This becomes an even greater factor when the wind starts blowing as you may have to throw a different shot to minimize the wind.

Danger - Almost all of the holes out here have some form of OB danger which makes this course GREAT for tournament play. You have to stay focused the whole round to avoid it all.
Windy - Wind is usually present in some form and adds a fair amount of challenge to even some of the easier holes.

Aesthetics - The course is gorgeous with rolling hills and well maintained lawns. While there is a significant problem with graffiti and trash, golfers, the parks dept, and a neighborhood group "Friends of Hicks Lake" do a great job of keeping on top of things.

Some challenge in navigation - Not too much difficulty but there are some extra tee pads floating around out there and a couple of places where you will have to backtrack or will need to know where you are going (after holes 7, 11, 13, 16).

Shots are not extremely challenging - Its more about how many shots you can execute on a given day rather than learning new shots. There aren't many "technical" holes which require placement shots or a specific shaped shot - its usually open enough where you can stick with your strengths off the tee.

I'd say this course is the "sweetheart" of the Seattle courses - pretty much everyone enjoys playing here no matter what skill level.

My home digs are a testament of love, sweat, tears and I hope I don't sound too biased in my review as a result! The land that Lakewood sits on is gorgeous rolling grassy hills and a mix of Madrona and fir that shapes the fairways. The fairways play mostly open but require a mix of power and finesse, as there are many OB perils such as fences, roads, lakes and sidewalks that will penalize a poor shot. Scoring can sway both ways depending on how much game you bring. You can bring your longer drivers here, but also bring your accurate short range game as some pin placements can be testy on sloped ground.

Lots of hard work goes into this course, but sometimes it is destroyed by VANDALS who paint the benches, trees and tees signs. Many signs are in disrepair depending on which day you show up.

Trash is a constant problem with the course bordering a junior high and high school.

Navigation can be quite difficult so print a map (warning - holes 7-11 on this map have changed a little, so consult any existing signs!)

Some holes shoot blindly into others so proceed with caution!

If we are able to get some of the listed problems into check I think this course rates a solid 4-4.5!

This course has something for everyone. Multiple hole positions makes it a joy year-round as it is constantly changing - and always adding a challenge. Fortunately you do not spend time finding the basket - as most of the new pin positions are subtle - adding 15 feet or moving left 20 feet, etc. There are a few hill holes - with an upshots on 2, 6, 9, 11 and 18, and downshots on 4, 10, 12, and 14. Hole 8 is a tight and narrow corridor shot - or if you have the arm - a huge heizer. Look to holes 1 - 3, 7, 10, 15,and 17 for birdies - though all the holes, except 12 long, are in range for many players.

The biggest con this course has - and this will apply to someone new to the course - signage. It is terrible. Luckily this course is busy enough you can stalk the group in front of you - or if you are feeling friendly join them.

The course is the main attraction to the park, and encompasses most of the available park space. Most of the folks that go to tha park are either players - or are familiar with watching people play. There will eb construction happening that will affect about 6 of the holes - luckily there is local leadership that has ensured that a new course layout - and funds to make it happen are ready to go when the construction starts. There is also a water fountain and restroom at hole 14 - seasonally open.

great elevation changes. Good variety of shots needed. The fairways are very well kept and the tee shot views are beautiful.

Dont know what it's like normally but it was extremely windy today. I wouod've liked to have it a little calmer for better putting conditions.

-Multiple pin locations!
-Lots and lots of elevation, both up and down. Much different than my typical courses in MN and SD.
-Most tees had accurate signs, although some did not.
-Nice benches at each tee box both help find the next tee and provide a place to sit while waiting for other groups.
-Enough trees and cover to make good obstacles but not to provide many opportunities for lost discs.
-Playable all year due to Seattle's climate.
-Tee pads and chains are both in good shape.
-Varieties of shots, no two holes are too similar.

-Broken Glass and garbage lying all over most holes.
-Some faded tee signs make it hard to find the basket or the way to the next tee. Also, some tee signs were inaccurate and not proportionate.
-Very busy course so it took over 90 minutes to play when it could have been less than 1 hour.
-Somewhat hard to find of the road. Entrance is not clearly marked but after you've been there once it isn't hard to find.
-Could have used the pond in a few holes to make an interesting water hazard.

If this is the only course I get to play while in the Seattle area I would be happy enough with it. If you aren't in the best shape be prepared for a hike up and down some of the holes.

Awesome long fairways with enough technicality and elevation to add variety and depth to the course layout. When I was there this morning they were mowing the grass and the park does a great job of maintaining this very large park. Trash bins and benches are available at almost every tee pad and the pads are cement. The locals are very nice. The pin locations are moved every once in a while to make the course play a little different but flow of the course and navigation are affected little. The course is challenging but not to the point where newer players will get frustrated. The view of Mt. Rainier is breath taking and there are a couple of holes you won't forget. There is some wind on this course sometimes that makes the round more challenging and fun but not too much to get you frustrated.

The course gets very busy during the summer months and the parking lot can fill up quite fast. The course is in a less than classy neighborhood and there is some vandalism. A sign or two pointing to the next tee pad would help out.

All in all one of the best courses in Washington state, if not the best course. The cons mentioned are very minor and don't distract you much from your round if at all. This is a great course for just about anyone and it is worth the drive from just about anywhere. They have a random doubles tournament on Thursday night.

***UPDATE***

The reconfiguration is underway and already a couple of hoes had to be moved and the course flow has suffered and there are some long walkouts now so I'm going from 4 to 3.5 stars.

Everything about this course is good, there is a great mix of super long holes and ace holes, there are techincal shots and a lot of hidden pins, but not difficult to find. It isn't as wooded as you might like, but it is definantly worth trip from anywhere in Western Washington. The sun stays out late for evening rounds and the grounds are manicured as it is also a x-country course for highschools.

I wish there were a little more trees because the course doesn't have a lot of astetic appeal, but there aren't too many negatives.

There are baseball fields near some of the holes that you should be careful of when you are throwing. Also don't swear by the preschool children playing next to hole 15.

This course is a gem, a must play if in the area, and close enough to SeaTac to take the two in on one day.

This is a gem a must on the Northwest tour, along with Seatac two miles down the road is this Heaven?

Course demands a good mix of shots to be thrown with accuracy as their is a lot of OB. Several nice turnover shots on the front w/elevation changes. Back is more open and somewhat longer. Friendly people makes it easy to find a local guide. I had no troubles in recent travels to Seattle. Thanks Randy, Pete, and Devan.

Busy course with some crossing of fairways. Could use some better signage but fairly easy to follow anyway.

Overall a very fun course for beginners and advanced players...not overly technical. The word is the first 6 holes will have to be moved because of construction in that area. It's a large park so there's room to relocate the holes. Locals have been given maps of the area so they can add their input.
