Pros:
- newer Mach 5 baskets
- hole numbers on baskets
- large concrete tees
- tee signs with full color maps
- great navigation aids
- ample parking and picnic tables
- includes some technical wooded shots that require precision
- good use of limited space to force some challenging lines
Cons:
- course is very congested with holes packed together
- rough has been immensely cleaned up and is not an issue
- course is very short; some may find it lacks challenge
- some areas clearly get wet at times
- almost entirely flat
Other Thoughts:
I was between a 1.5 and a 2 on Pleasant Prairie. It seems this course has been revamped from the prior review - it is a prairie no longer! While the name may have been appropriate before, there were no signs of wheat growing on the course.
In general, the course has been improved and cleaned up. There's almost no rough to speak of, there are brand new concrete tees, and the signage is some of the best I've ever seen. However, that doesn't take away from the limitations of this course.
I enjoyed this course; it's a fun 20-30 minute bagger with tons of ace run opportunities. However, some of the fairways are just packed too close together. There are major safety hazards if more than one person is playing, especially with the short length of each hole. This was one of the few coures on the day where I did run into other players too, so the safety issues are a real factor.
All that said, it pained me not to rate this one higher because it is fun! It has elements of woods golf but is short enough you're always thinking you have a chance at an ace. There is some shot selection required but this is an easygoing course you can get through quickly. It's very conveniently located just off the interstate so you might as well stop and throw a quick, fun round.
