St. John's of the Northwest

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 28, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Course is on the shorter side but is actually not bad for what it is. I'm not sure if this one is going to be in the ground all year around or if this was just a temporary course but I enjoyed my quick round which started my course bagging day. Arm was properly warmed up after this one. This would be a good place to introduce someone to the sport.

- Teepads were rubber and not permanently installed but worked perfectly fine. These could get a bit slippery once the snow drops and melts. The hole number was spray painted on the teepad so you at least know which hole you're on.

- The design was OK and I had an enjoyable warm up round. It starts a block away from the athletic areas and then you play around I think it was a football field. It doesn't quite end right back where your car is but it was only a 100 yard walk to get back to mine.

Cons:

- I played on Thanksgiving day so I am not sure if this one is playable during school hours as it is located at a military school. I don't think it is advised to play this when there are actual sports activities happening either.

- The baskets sucked. They were some unknown model and more than a few of them the chains were already lose. They are also not permanent as I had to tip one back over that fell due to the winds that were whipping about.

- No tee signs and no real indication of where to go next after hole 1. You have to walk across the street towards the athletic fields to get to hole 2. There's also a really long walk from I believe 6 to 7. I feel like this is a common theme on a lot of 9 hole school courses. Just use uDisc and you'll be fine.

- Distances are on the shorter side but not too short to where it won't get the blood flowing. Hole 3 and hole 9 are over 350 but the pars are kinda ridiculous even though the course is aimed at beginner level players so it makes sense.

- No amenties such as bathrooms or anything like that. Not even a parking lot. You can just park on the street next to hole 1's teepad though.

Other Thoughts:

I liked this one for what it was which I'm not really sure if it's only going to be around this year and gone the next but as of today, its got 9 teepads and 9 baskets. The baskets though.. oof. I hope the school eventually invests in even MVP Black Holes or something, anything is better than what is currently there.

Like I mentioned above, it is at a military school so try to come here on the weekends to avoid not being able to play it.
