What's the history behind this disc?

It was one of the first Thumtrac™ discs. For some reason it was freaky overstable for a lid; not sure why but it was. You could actually crank on one, which was weird for a lid. It wasn't as deep as a Birdie but felt deeper than a Polecat.
When the Rhyno came out, they retooled the Piranha using a Thumtrac™ more like the Rhyno top. The new disc wasn't nearly as stable as the old Piranha. The Rhyno had taken that overstable putter slot in the line-up anyway, so they made the new Piranha into the Birdie. They apparently had messed up the old Piranha mold in the process, so the Piranha went OOP.
At the time that they were around, I really didn't like them. Now I wish I could try one again.

now I want one. I do have a Birdie that is mad stable, no glide though.

Wait, are you saying that the Piranha was more overstable than the Rhyno originally?

I remember on the Winthrop Gold Clash DVD Markus Kไlstr๖m was throwing one quite a bit for shorter stuff (for him anything under 350). I think the Swedes really fell in love with that disc as a whole. Which makes me wonder if we can get Lat to make a copy า.ำ

Zero or Gold Line Piranhas? I'd love to try a Piranha anyway, but the price of admission is just too high. Lat doesn't have a lid-style putter. A truly overstable one would probably get more love than what's out there. Who has connections with Tomas?

I was so terrible when I threw a Piranha that I can't really say for sure if it was more or less overstable than a Rhyno, put you really could tug one. It is the only lid I've ever thrown that wasn't a touch disc to some extent.

I would like to see it in stiff EZE/Zero and or GL.
I just perused the PDGA tech specs and it appears the Polecat, Birdie and Piranha all share some mold pieces. The Piranha and the Polecat have the same rim depth with the Piranha being shorter in overall height. Wasn't the original Birdie a flat top like the PC? damn now I really want one.

The first run Birdie actually had the Aviar top. After that it was flat like the PC.

So I traded a guy for a thrower Piranha today. Maybe I'll finally remember what was special about them.
