All right you guys:

I guess I will just go ahead and post the first topic to get this social group started. We have an abundance of great courses here in the Charlotte area so let's start off with that.

What is your favorite course in the greater Charlotte area and why? Now, this does not only include courses within the Charlotte city limits but let's just say the greater "surrounding area" as well. For example; Stumpy Creek, though not within the Charlotte city limits, is what I would include in the greater Charlotte area so to speak.

I guess I will start off with my favorite: I absolutely love Hornets Nest Park. It has 2 layouts and is definitely a pro-caliber course when you want the tougher challenge of the Web layout.

Now what's yours? Explain.....

I have always loved Kilborne because it is a little more beginner friendly but lately I have really started to enjoy Sugaw Creek! Although, if I am going to travel, I like Hickory's Glenn C. Hilton Course but I have to say that my all time favorite is Richmond Hill in Asheville. They put a ton of work into those courses. Any feedback?

For overall fun factor, I've always really liked Kilborne. You can be having a really bad day on the course and it's still forgiving enough that you're not just completely frustrated. I think once the Skillborne layout is finished, that course is really going to shine.

As for my favorite championship caliber course, Renny. Although, I have yet to play the Gold course. Hornets Nest is a very close second.

Yeah, for sure DiscChucker: I love Kilborne as well. It's just a course that you can kick back and enjoy a casual round of disc at. The fairways are definitely fair and forgiving, and with the added "Skilborne" layout it just makes for a great course.

As long as they keep stealing the Skillborne baskets it will never exist, unless you like playing with a pole and tray(no chains or top).

Now that I've played most of what's around I've learned that each course has an attribute which makes for a great time. Its so hard to pick one. If my idea of a good time was getting my butt kicked by a course then Nevin would be it. But its not. If I liked wide open spaces then Renny would probably be it, but nah. Hornets Nest is up there, but I'm not a fan of most of the front 9. Rankin Lake is high on the fun factor, except for all of the OB on the front. Sugaw is fun, and birdies are always nice out there, but I'm always feeling like I have to be on high alert and make sure I'm paying attention to the surroundings. Reedy would be nice, if you didn't have to wait til hole 15 to let one rip.

My favorite par 54 course in Charlotte would have to be Kilborne. Its not tough to score well, the fairways are very fair which keeps the thrower happy more of the time. Greens are way easy at Kilborne, meaning the basket is not tucked away in some tiny cutout, or up against creeks and big downslopes. This all definitely makes for a great time of casual Discing.

As for my favorite course w/ +54 par would have to be Elon Long Course for many reasons. Tee pads are huge by Charlotte standards. The course makes good use of a creek as natural OB, and road OB only comes into play on 3 possible occasions(#s 1, 3, 5). The whole course is exclusive disc golf grounds, which leaves your chances of seeing a pedestrian non-DGer very rare. There is nothing repetitive about Elon Long. Each hole is unique to the course and to anything else around. The two giants, 5 and 18 can break you and break you(yes, no make you), but shooting par on either is a huge plus. But I never feel like I have to watch my back. And maybe the best part about it...when you get your rear kicked by the long course you can feel a little bit better about yourself by playing the short course and going for dub digits down.

Yeah, I gotsta make it down to E-Long again. I RARELY ever make it to that edge of town. I cant wait until they finally get Idlewild and Winget Park done. I need a new Charlotte fix.... knowhumsayin?

Renaissance-end of story. world class. makes you take out every shot you have and then some.

New to the group. Been throwing for about 3 months this time. for the last 3 years kinda took off but im back into DG with a passion! i threw for a good 6 months prior. so I am new but can throw over 300 on a good drive and i have basketed a 50 or so ft putt. im raw more than anything i just need to get out more. i live up north by the statesville course but willing to travel for a good course or good game.

Robert L Smith is the best in my opinion!

I play Reedy Creek every few days, so that makes it my favorite.
Actually, I've come SOOO close to aces at Mint Hill, so that makes IT my favorite.
Hmm, oh wait, Kilborne is so relaxing, a real sanctuary surrounded by the hustle and bustle of Charlotte. Surely IT MUST be my favorite.
Um, ah, um wait a minute, I played The Scrapyard TODAY, that must mean it is my favorite!
