Ordered 5 star gazelles. 3 white and 2 red. Both reds have higher plh than the whites. Pattern? Dunno.

Last year I ordered one and it was great. Why did I sell it? Who knows why I do anything? It was stiffer star plastic, could take some abuse, started to season in and get some grip. Had some dome similar to the cfr glo.

All five of these are domey all the way across, floppy, flimsy feeling garbage star (not to be confused with gstar). disappointed. Plh is roughly the same or lower than my cfr glo discs.

I expect that these will be no different in flight/function than the gstars I already have, and they will probably season just as fast as gstar. I will get out and throw them tomorrow, it is going to be an amaaaaazing day! So I suspect I'll get a lot of reps in for some good feedback.

I will say, the stamp looks sharp and I'll be dyeing my 3 whites. The stamps are very shallow, I expect they will be easy to wipe.

If I'm right and they don't fly like they should, it seems the cfr glo discs are what I covet the most. They have dome for some glide, they have some good stability to them and it beats out slowly, turning it into a very manageable slow fairway. It sucks that I spent all this money to confirm my "best" gazelle, but at least I'll have some seasoned discs quickly. Then I can stock up on cfr glo. I've already got all the double eagle stamps I need.

jdw80550 03-06-2016 11:02 AM

After you dye them, place them directly into the freeze. The heat from the dye will make the disc floppy, but the quick freeze will tighten all the molecules up, making the disc more overstable. I do this will all disc I don't want to lose stability or add just a touch more stability to, thinks like my undertows, star Teebirds, and comets. Discs that I want to lose some stability with, predators in particular, I won't put in the freeze and it's like I've thrown it 30 times already.

Kodachrome 03-06-2016 12:33 PM

Well, I got out! And looks like I was too quick to judge. The star gazelles are pretty neutral. Just a hint of turn with the whites, dead straight stable for the red. They all have less turn than the gstar.

So I guess the moral of the story is, all the gazelles fly like gazelles in some capacity, the gstars are the freaks in the family.

My orange Stars are definitely go-to money dead straight when powered. I also have three whites, but they do not see as much action because of how long our winters are here, but they are in the tournament bag and I trust them.

The only time that I even consider taking them out of the bag is when I am in a TeeBird kick. They are very similar to seasoned Star PFN TeeBirds; just shorter and a tick less glide. Unfortunately I only have three of those, so I am very protective of them. Since I have seven Star Gazelles, and have never lost one, I am more willing to have them in the bag. However, if I can get my hands on one more 169+g white Star PFN TeeBird and two more oranges, then maybe the Gazelles will come out.

I have to say my x-out star gazelle is my favorite of all my gazelles. It flies like a slightly worn dx gazelle now and is amazing. I need more stars though...

So do I have this right in terms of stability of fresh Gazelles?

Jolly Launcher->CFR Glow->Star->DX-> GStar

Where do the Pro plastic ones from the Pro Shop fit in this?

You need more Gazelles, period. You don't have enough. :)

That's how I feel but I bet the gstar and dx could be interchangeable, depending on whether you got normal ones or freaks.

My gstars don't even fly like gazelles, I don't know what to call them. I threw them next to my star and cfr glo that have almost identical plh and they were just different.

I've thrown gstar aviars, roc3, destroyers, teebird, and they all at least had flights characteristic of the original star counterpart, just more neutral. They had lower plh to match too. These are just weird, and I'm starting to wonder if I got 3 freaks or what.

Pro? As I said before, I don't know . They don't seem very popular, and I can't imagine them flying any more hss than a star gazelle, if we judge based off basically every other pro variant of a disc. Pro is never, in my experience, more stable than star or champ unless you got a real weird pro disc or a real weird star or champ disc. Usually it is less, but more than dx.

Cool. Thanks.

Pro should beat in faster then Star or GStar but slower then DX right?

Yep!

IMO, gstar is slightly more durable than pro. It holds up to light abuse much better, but a major impact will deform gstar almost as bad.

Alright, who bought the last double eagle from clearwater?

If you decide you bought one too many I will trade you or buy one from you.

(I knew I waited to long and shouldn't have shared my source lol)

Well I am going to get over my bitterness (I kid) by sharing an exciting piece of news. Jolly Launcher Gazelles are on the production schedule at the Innova Pro Shop!!!!! I got the email this morning.

Glad I haven't gotten desperate yet and pulled the trigger on the trio that I know of (Guy wants $105 for three).

Question for you and any other Gazelle throwers. Is there a distinctive enough difference between them and a Teebird to warrant a try? I have thrown them before and they were great because (with my experiences) the flight was predictable and controllable.

That's sort of what lead to the decline of the gazelle. People found easier distance with a Teebird. I find them to be different the gazelle. Less glide is nice, and the 16mm rim fits my hand better. I don't bag a teebird, I use a JLS. So the gazelle fits my stable slot.

I will second this. They do have less glide than a TeeBird, which means on the same line usually comes up 10% shorter. I am always flip-flopping between Star Gazelles and PFN Star TeeBirds, but since I have a very limited stock of these TeeBirds, I stick with the Gazelles. Still, there is a difference I always notice. I do not have to throw the TeeBird as hard to get the same distance, and therefore get more distance when powered up, but conversely because I have to throw the Gazelle with a little more power, I am actually a little more accurate with it. I am far more accurate, mainly because the disc fades less at power, throwing 70-80% versus trying to finesse (which usually leads to more) at 60-70%.

Yes.

They are different enough to try, but not different enough to bag both imo.

I never find myself wanting for distance when I throw the gazelle. They are slow fairway drivers for placement shots, not for distance-they do fly far, but I find the distance to to be largely irrelevant. I am using gazelles on holes 290-7000' (made up number) because I value accuracy here in the woods. Teebs can do that too.

My champ gazelles have about the stability of a new, current run champ teebird.

My cfr glo probably started out as stable as a nice star teebird. No turn, decent fade. The star is dead straight out of the box. The gstar...whatever...they're weird....the dx starts out like a dx teebird with less fade.

The cfr glo and the star/gstar are my money makers.

The star and cfr glo are domey and glide quite well. It's not as far flying as a teebird, but sure as hell farther than a mid. My Max is about 440' (real max, not very consistent/usable) and I can pump the stars out to 360' pretty easily. I could probably toss a teebird 380/390, but why do that when I have other discs that do that, and do it easier?

I used to bag teebirds and realized the champs were just too overstable for woods golf unless you have a real cannon. The gstar were great, but then I never could decide to throw an olf/pd or a tb because the tb flew so far.

93EXCivic 03-15-2016 02:17 PM

I don't have a lot of distance. I like the Gazelle over the TeeBird because it felt better in my hand and I found that I was more accurate with it.

I think I would have been better off just saying that, lol.

Gazelles are more accurate for me but don't sacrifice what I consider to be meaningful distance.

geo_08 03-15-2016 03:53 PM

Neither do I feel like I lose meaningful distance. For those of you who like the gazelle, but want something a tad longer and a bit more turn I suggest the JLS, the feel similar in hand.

93EXCivic 03-15-2016 06:32 PM

How does the Ptero compare to the Gazelle? Would it be a disc that would make sense to bag with Gazelles of different plastics?

geo_08 03-15-2016 06:43 PM

I'd say it would go well with all but maybe some beat dx gazelles. You will get more distance and more of an S in the ptero than you will a gazelle. I've done it, would still do it if there were lighter pteros.

So is it somewhat like a JLS?

The ptero is close to a worn in TL or a shorter s line FD. The JLS is a bit more US than those. Either way I think the gazelle pairs well with them as it tends to fight wind better.

had a great day with the gazelles yesterday at acorn. they only got pulled out for two holes - 1 and 17. coincidentally i birdied them every time during each of our 3 rounds. 17 had a cross/header all day, probably about 10-13 mph. the double eagle stamp handled it very well, holding flat into it and fading right by the pin. pin is about 360' out. i was fully expecting some turn and got none. the gstar held an anny and panned out perfectly to flat at the end of its flight every time on 1, which is a bit of a shorter hole and protected from the wind. it's about 295', pretty big right turn, more lateral movement than big distance. on the last round i was literally under the basket. very encouraging now that it's starting to get warmer.

after the wind test, can pretty confidently say i have every fairway duty covered with these guys. it wasn't anything super heavy, but it was heavy enough to determine whether or not these things can be relied on in most conditions.

I think the only hole I am tempted to throw my Star Gazelle at Acorn is Hole 2 with lower power but high torque, gun it down the center, and tap in for 2. I find my FD holds a better anhyzer and flex out needed for parking Hole 1 and I flip flop from hyzer bombing the FD or low gunning a Thunderbird and playing the fade on 17. Maybe hole 10, but still I prefer my Verdict for a low line drive.

1 - FD
2 - Gazelle or Truth
3 - Thunderbird
4 - Truth
5 - Verdict
6 - FD or Verdict
7 - Catapult
8 - Pure
9 - Pure
10 - Verdict or Gazelle
11 - Pure
12 - FD or TeeBird
13 - Harp
14 - Pure
15 - FD
16 - Pure
17 - Thunderbird or FD
18 - Catapult

Kodachrome 03-29-2016 08:52 AM

Hmm. I'm trying to remember what I did. I threw a few different things over the rounds but my best successes were with these.

1. gstar gazelle
2. Comet
3. Wasp, doggy style for approach
4. Comet, doggy style
5. Comet
6. Comet
7. Olf, comet.
8. Doggy style
9. H1
10. Comet
11. doggy style
12. H1
13. H1
14. Doggy style
15. Eeeeh...I dunno yet. Wasp or h1 to get up the hill, then whatever for the upshot.
16. Comet
17. Double eagle gazelle
18. 1.1 solf or qolf, then a short thumber/tomahawk over the trees.

I do a lot of standstill delivery with the comet, haha.

I may be getting out to kp or the valley or maybe random dubs at acorn and get to test these in some harsher winds today.

Kodachrome 06-09-2016 10:39 PM

not enough love for the gazelle lately.

lately i've been rolling

double eagle champ
fresh gstar
seasoned gstar

this does everything i need. i keep losing my glo cfr gazelles for some reason so i gave up for a while and threw the gstars instead, hoping to season the double eagles. that's gonna take a while though, and the gstars beat up too fast.

THANKFULLY, THOUGH . . . i got a new cfr glo today. it will be getting thrown and seasoned and it will be my favorite disc in the world. or something. plh is lower than the double eagles by a bit. fully expect it to be amazing out of the box and season to perfection.

Beautiful glow Gazelle.

I am still bagging a beat DX, a Glow Champ, a fresher DX and a Star (the Star is backup for the fresh DX).

How do the GStars compare in flight to the DX or Star? I am trying to decide if I want to grab one or just keep buying DXs and getting a new one every couple months... GStar is not my favorite plastic.

Kodachrome 06-15-2016 11:19 PM

Gstar is neutral with just a little turn/flip and a long, gradual fade. On this hole I hyzerflip it to the right and let it fade.

I throw it on this hole whenever I can. If there's a crosswind, the champ comes out instead.

http://i1348.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7zzx4rwb.jpg

It's 340 I think.

Kodachrome 06-16-2016 12:46 AM

Once they're seasoned they will turn at this distance, never to come back on a shot like this if thrown flat.

I use mine for gentle anny shots that pan to flat, deep hyzerflips and high turnovers. It has its uses but I much prefer the cfr glo or double eagle for flat and hard shots.
