I'd like to thank whoever recommended Proxies a few months back. The Proxy has been a go-to disc for approaches and short drives. It hasn't just complemented my Envy, it has actually stolen most of my Envy shots! When I want a putter line with fade, I find I'm more accurate manipulating release angles with the Proxy rather than stepping up in stability to an Envy.
I'm seriously considering dropping the Envy from the bag for a bit. Which is depressing, because I LOVE my Envies. But between my beat Zone and Proxy, I can cover every line I want. Anyone else find the Envy get squeezed out of their bags? Logically I don't want to drop it, since I think it just might be the easiest disc to throw ever made. BUT...Proxy is fantastic too, and a touch more versatile. |
My proxy is an FR so it doesn't hold a hyzer line anymore. I wouldn't call it flippy per se, but it will definitely flip up and ride straight unless I nose it up. It really pairs well with my super gummy soft envy, which is a few years old but hasn't really lost any stability.

I carry proxy, zone, envy too and I could drop my Envy and have dabbled with that few times this summer - carrying a small bag lately. But honestly I prefer having it and put it back in. Sometimes I just feel like hammering down on the Envy. But, yes, I agree zone and Proxy can handle it. |
Not sure how relevant this will end up being to your situation as I havent thrown a proxy but I have my soft neutron envy paired with a neutron atom that holds most lines very well and certainly makes me question my envy at times (not to mention my poor tangent). I mention the atom only because I often see it compared to the proxy and if they are actually similar I certainly think your conflict is a valid one.
Honestly my envies are pretty much only in the bag because they do one thing for me extremely well: long FH hyzer flip to turnover approach shots that fade back to center. If I rip an envy with a hard flick on a 30° hyzer it will pop up flat, turn over a bit and fade back into the chains if my aim is true. If not it will still usually dive into the ground when I miss before travelling outside the circle as long as i dont try it within 50'. My atom would have me throwing a lot of long come back putts if I used it that way. If not for my game depending so heavily on FH approaches and scramble shots I could just throw atoms and cover the same lines without missing a beat. I think Mike C's idea of an entropy/proxy combo is the most versatile pairing (if the proxy is anything like the atom, again) but I could justify having all 3 pretty easily. I love my entropy for low powered flex shots through dense woods or for dogleg approaches and heavy headwind putts - but its not as workable for the shots my envy is used for. The envy responds intuitively to power where I find the entropy requires more subtle manipulations to release angle to achieve with mistakes in either direction resulting in more exaggerated results. Too much anny and Im way passed the basket, not enough Im way short. I can throw the envy at the angle that feels natural and use power/OAT to range it or shape the shot as needed. Its kicked the entropy out of the bag for now but come tournament time theres nothing I trust more for strong headwind putts than my entropy so it always finds a way back in lol It really depends on the type of shots you use the envy for and its place in your specofic game overall I think. Ive got a similar issue to yours now that I have a matrix on the way and Im thinking that maybe itll cause an uproar in my bag. If its a longer envy as they say and granted it powers down well ill probably just be left with the atom/matrix/theory covering everything under 300 paired with a relay/crave/clash fairway lineup. Add a tesla/ wrath and an inertia/insanity for shorter courses or an Octane/Mayhem and a couple Photons on longer ones and 99% of the shots are covered... Except the long FH approach shot... Like I said, valid conundrum you've got there 😅 |

Not sure why the others don't work.. |
Sold!!! on the Relays.. Two 166's headed my way and some snap cap minis. I was looking for an excuse to order discs. I really want those new Relays. I pray the PLH is high.
I love matched discs.. Even more so they are 166g! Ideal! Except the same red color as all my other MVP's. It's my curse to bear. 166 and red. All friggin six of em. |
