It seems like a lot of people like the new gstar. Dome doesn't look to bag. I bet these will fly close to the true flight number and will break in to be a straight flier or a nice controlled turn over. I would like to see some pics of the new gstar v 11x kc pro. Or hear from someone that has thrown or throws 11x and tried the gstar

My disc should be here Monday

I'll compare my gstar to DX and 11x this weekend.

Yes please

I figure one of these should fly like a new to slightly seasoned DX Gazelle. These Cheetahs are a relatively flat run and pearly as all get-out.

That Cheetah is lovely. Almost makes me wish I threw Cheetahs :p
|
Finally got the chance to throw my gstar Gazelles today. They do fly like a lightly seasoned DX Gazelle. Put it out 300 feet easily. I did manage to turn one into the ground when I threw with a modest amount of anhyzer. Didn't try any flex bombs with em yet.

What does a seasoned gazelle fly like? Only ever thrown 11x
|
In my experience with a nicely worn DX Gazelle is that they fly really straight for a long time when thrown with a slight hyzer. Gazelles tend to fade forward more than other discs I think.

Did anyone get one of each color?

Anyone get out to throw the gstar gazelle this weekend?

Sorry to report that the gstar Gazelle (175) flies like a DX Leopard. Way more understable that I had hoped. However, the factory store champ Cheetah's fly like 11x Gazelles.
Unfortunately, I was looking for something in premium that flew like a DX Gazelle or, something in between those two. The search goes on. |

Leopards, for me, have very noticeable turn and will go a measurable distance right. If not overtorqued, they will eventually fight back into a hard fade. However, if given either an anhyzer or hyzer, it will hold that angle all the way to the end of its flight. For me, the Leopard is very speed and torque sensitive. It will do exactly what I want, but I have to be conscious of how I throw it. Non-Gstar Gazelles are best thrown flat because unless I unload a massive amount of OAT into it the Gazelle will not flip or turn. It will hold it all the way to the ground. Unless it is noticeably underpowered, it also has little to no fade. Finally, unlike the Leopard, if I give it an anhyzer, it will attempt to fight out of it. So, the two main differences between a Gazelle and a Leopard is that the Gazelle has almost no lateral movement and that it can handle power. My GStar Gazelle, after a second day of throwing it on holes that require near max power actually flies similar enough to my regular Star Gazelles that it could be interchangeable with no real let down. The differences I see in flight between my two Gazelles are these: 1) It can flip up flat from the slightest of hyzers and or if already flat will have the mildest of turns. The turn is hardly measurable and in the end the GStar will land almost exactly where you would have expected a normal Gazelle to land. 2) Unlike most other GStars, I think it is actually shorter than the other plastics. Most of my other GStars seemingly have more glide than their counterparts, but the Gazelle seems to have a tick less. On occasion it came up shorter than expected by a few feet. While this was noticeable, some throws still went as far as expected, so results may vary enough where again you will not see a drop off in overall performance. 3) It seems a tick faster than my other Gazelles, which could make up for that tick less of glide. For me, which again my throwing style obviously is different than yours, the result is a push. The Star Gazelle has better overall performance, but just barely. However, I like the GStar plastic more, especially after it has been washed down to get rid of the production slickness. I do not see the comparison between the Gazelle and Leopard, but my Leopards have very defined shots in my bag as do my Gazelles. Because of their defined roles that also means that I have a slightly different body motion, wrist angles, and release points for those particular discs. They may or may not be the reason why I cannot see the comparison, but regardless, I have no problems putting in the GStar in place of my regular Stars. |
The only way I could get my gstar Gazelle to fly straight was with about a 45 degree angle, outer wing down. My DX Gazelles don't get to that point until they are beat to about 5-6/10. Maybe I got the odd one. Let's see what others report.

I can't add to the discussion about how these fly yet because I keep forgetting that I have them, but here's a side by side with a 9/10 11x. These new ones are definitely more domey than the 11x's. I have at least one of every Gazelle that's been produced, so I'd gladly post comparisons with any other Gazelle if anyone is curious. JL, 7x, CE, old DX, current DX, field dressed, etc.

Received a JL Champion Retro Stamp Gazelle today. It's 175g Yellow and it sure flies great. Been wanting to get one of these for a while so that I could revisit Champ Gazelles and glad that I did. Took it out to the field today and got a chance to get a couple of really good throws in. Was throwing with a good amount of power behind the shot and they went nice and straight with a little fade at the end. Definitely one of those discs that just from the first few throws it will find a place in my bag/game. Can't wait to see these ran again at the Factory Store so that I can pick up some more!

does anyone think they will be making a production run of g* star gazelles?

Anyone know how the circle stamped SE Gazelles fly?

IMO they are slightly less stable than a fresh max weight DX. The special edition plastic really dosn't hold up that well from my experience.
|
I've heard that the re-runs of the Cheetahs are nice. I think we will be seeing a restock of Gazelles, because I believe they ran the Cheetahs first at the factory store. So the Jolly Launcher Gazelles should not be too far behind. My Gazelle is actually quite flat but it would be nice if it had a little more tack to the plastic for grip like the JL Teebird3 have. If they run it in the current JL plastic I should be a happy camper, since the newer JL plastic seems to be of higher quality/ improved or maybe they just have the process down better now....either way I like.

I have had my G* Gaz for a few weeks now so I have a better opinion of it now. I got a fresh pro at the same time to compare it to. Both fly about the same for me unless thrown into the wind. Pro (same weight and PLH but much less dome) fights wind better. Had some fairly strong winds my Pro would hold a slight hyzer in where the G* would flip flat and make a very slight turn.
Don't think I'll be bagging the G*, enjoying my Pro a lot more. Just wish they were production run and cheaper. |
Recently added a gazelle to my bag and liking it for standstill fairway shots and shots just out of range for my rocs. Instead of over extending a roc, I can throw a little more relaxed shot around 270 that doesn't fade quite as hard as my teebird . Was looking for a slower , easier , tee bird flight, but I tend to get good anhyzer lines with it. It's just a little easier to control than my teebird . Tee bird is easier to reach 300 ft, but has to be a committed pull (for me anyway)to get there without falling into hyzer. All of innovas speed six /seven fairway stuff is pretty good IMO. Love my cheetahs, Leo's, gazelle and eagle.......just a lot of overlap and can't decide what to carry, so I have a bag full of fairways for now . But have been reaching for the gazelle more and more lately.

I tried/ am trying to convert over to Trilogy, moreso just to see if I can. I found that while everything else has a replacement, the Gazelle is the one disc I cannot take out of the bag.
Right now I am rocking: Swan2, Mercy Buzzz SS, Truth, and Verdict Hatchet, Gazelle, TeeBird3, Predator, Trespass, Sorcerer, and XXX The Buzzz SS could easily be replaced with the Claymore, the TeeBird3 with a Stag, and the Predator with a Boatman. The Gazelle is the only one I have not found a replacement for. Over the last two weeks I have been giving more and more shots I would use the Gazelle for to the Hatchet, but it is a completely different stability and style of throwing. If I just want to rear back and crush a straight line down a tight fairway, nothing can replace the Gazelle. The closest thing so far is the Truth, but being a mid that means that I really need to stretch out it in order to get what the Gazelle can get a little easier. This opens the door to OAT on my less than stellar throwing days. |
Maybe a Warship?

Closest thing I have thrown was Kastaplast Rask, and it fades a little more. Also more power hungry and doesn't like to be powered down. Little bit shorter too, but anything else that flies like a Gaz is going to be a mid anyways (ie 1.5cm rim or so). |
Meant to say Kastaplast Kaxe, not Rask. Couldn't edit my post when I noticed it.
|
Fair enough on the Warship. I say stick with the Gazelles then too, throw what you know. And Gazelles are great discs, I just can't justify bagging them alongside my Teebirds.

Almost all holes around me where I need a laser straight shot in the woods do not exceed 330 feet. That is about the range I have with the Gazelle before I start losing control from just flinging it. I can stretch them out further, but there is no need because of the TeeBird. Conversely, the TeeBird really does not have that straight of a flight for me unless I am trying to unleash a 330+ shot. So, in most scenarios the TeeBird is going to be used in open to semi-open shots that require more distance than I can get out of my Gazelle. So, when I am looking at shots ranging from 290-330, I almost always go for the Gazelle first because of familiarity. If the shot is over 330 but under 375, I am more apt to reach for the TeeBird. However, and mainly because I am done with my competitive tournament season until next April, I am finding that I am taking more shots away from the Gazelle and giving it to the Hatchet. The Gazelle is definitely a workhorse with enough stability to take whatever I give it, but the Hatchet has flashier results - which is what I want from a fun round. |

So let's talk about bag theory a little. How does the gazelle hold up for power throwing? I was thinking maybe going with a gazelle to replace my rocs and teebirds, then jumping to the pd for the overstable teebird lines and whatnot.. My kc rocs are fairly overstable. Anything currently in production for gazelles that you think could cover this range of stability?
|
I guess what I'm asking is can a gazelle cover the roc and teebird role interms of stability and also almost distance in the bag of someone who throws a pd for longer champ teebird throws?? Seems like it makes more sense.
