Archangels sell fairly well. They're a favorite beginner disc. The discs that float in water don't get good reviews, but I don't know what their sales are.

smarkquart 10-14-2015 09:55 AM

Still several premium plastic Gazelles on the factory store. We have gone back and forth about DX version Champion, Champion Glow, GStar, and Star, but whatever our preference, I am sure that those who throw Gazelles are dedicated to the mold.

I have seven Star Gazelles and I have to say that even though I have pulled them out of the bag in favor of fifth run C-Line FDs, I refuse to part with my Stars because I am positive that I could put them right back in the bag with no qualms or learning curve.

BirdieMachine 10-14-2015 01:48 PM

I've found Wahoo's, Dragons and Archangels on the course before but never a Gazelle. I would think since they are discontinuing Gazelles is that they are not a good seller for them.

Kodachrome 10-14-2015 01:54 PM

You don't find gazelles because people don't lose them.

Not because they're not being bought, but because they fly so perfectly.

Yep. That's why. Anyway I'll go buy like 20 of the cfr glow gazelles and I'll be good for a long time.

Why do u need 20 if you don't lose them? ;)

This happened a few years ago. Innova removed the Gazelle from the vendor order form. Everyone said it was going OOP. Then Dave came out and said it was pulled from the order form due to low inventory and that it would be added back on once they do a run. I think it was around the same time that Discraft released the Cyclone in ESP. It will be interesting to see if this happens again or if they finally decided to pull the plug. Its a great mold although the newer runs of DX seem less stable then the older PFN runs.

If you lose a Gazelle you look for it. Lose one of the discs you mention and I suppose a sane person would just not bother and leave it for some sucker to pick up. Easier than walking over to a trash can.

LOL. I thought the same thing when I read that...

Because I'm only 27.

If you love the Gazelle, you really should try a K1 Kaxe...

banzai7 10-15-2015 03:19 AM

Yeah, the Archangel is a good selling beginner disc. Except that -4 HSS is super misleading for new players. They'd be better off with a Leo/Gazelle combo.

Honestly, the gazelle is probably the easiest disc to power up. Just a teeny snap in the woods and BOOM you're straight down the fairway.

It'd be a shame if they discontinued it.

A large run in the new, Thunderbird DX would have me stocking up like nobody's business. I threw an all DX bag a year or so back, for six straight months, and I found cycling speed 7s and up to be a pain with how fast they lose stability but the fact that the gazelle is so controlable makes for very few tree hits. Hence, longevity for being base plastic. That and it is very forgiving with being over powered and righting itself out of too much turn without yet being anywhere near the fade phase of flight.

The DX Teebirds did hit a sweet spot that was a thing of beauty but never stayed there for more than a month. I still reassemble that bag when I play at elevation.

banzai7 10-15-2015 11:15 AM

One of my favourite DG moments: after the Destroyer came out, I was playing my home course (Wickham Park in CT). Hole 1 is 540' open downhill hyzer shot from an elevated tee over a ton of OB brush. (Check out the map: http://www.dgcoursereview.com/media....&hole=1&page=1)

A big group players were teeing off, most of whom threw their new Destroyers too high right into the middle of the OB. I was alone, so I asked to play through. I stepped up and put a clean hyzer out over the OB and landed safe just outside the opening in the fence to the green.

"What disc was that?!" "A Gazelle". :D

Question on runs:

I picked up and old x-out champ gazelle. Clear and 151g. Any idea as to when these we're out or in production?

THUGNIFICENT763 10-15-2015 05:31 PM

My Champion Gazelle is breaking in quite nicely, it flies stable like a proper Gazelle now. Get them while you can.

SD86 10-15-2015 06:04 PM

Spoke to a dealer today. He could not confirm that DX Gazelle production would be actually be discontinued, but he said he would "not be surprised" if it was discontinued.

Is it gummy?

Snap-it 10-15-2015 07:38 PM

Seems like someone here wants the Gazelle OOP. Same one who hates on the Leopard.

Yes it is.

I really hope that the Gazelle isn't going out of production, sounds like a terrible idea. What would Ken Climo say? Gazelles should be produced in either Champ or Star besides DX. It's such a pity that you can only buy them in DX..

You can get them in Pro and Star from the Factory Store. I luuuuurve my 165g Pro 'zelle!! :D

SD86 10-16-2015 08:20 AM

Maybe the Gazelle will be the next Avery Jenkins sig disc... :D :p

*ducking*

There was some very limited cfr "candy" era runs starting in 02 and I think those light clears are from that general time period. Patent number, no website, on the gummy side. I have a 170g champ in green with an 02 tourney stamp that I'll have to break out and throw someday. I'm sure it will season into something nice without the plastic disenegrating like most of the 11x's I've seen.

PhillyMatt 10-16-2015 10:21 AM

I wouldn't mind getting another 11x in the 165-170 range if anyone wants to sell/trade one. Color/ink/condition very negotiable

b-mart 12-02-2015 09:34 PM

Emailed Innova last night to ask about the possible discontinuation of the Gazelle. They responded, saying that it is indeed on the endangered species list, but it's safe at least for 2016. Even after that they'll be available on the Factory Store and DGU Pro Shop. That won't stop me from stocking up on DX ones though just to be safe...

And Matt, did you ever find that 11x thrower you were looking for?

geo_08 12-02-2015 09:36 PM

Well this is disappointing news. I just began to like the gazelle.

Thanks for the info. As to Innova, I for one am more than a bit tired that I have to go to the proshop to get certain discs and have to pay $6 or $7 shipping. And don't tell me about free shipping for $75 worth of discs, I almost never need an order that big nor do I want to pay $75 at one time for discs. Sheesh.

That is one area that IMHO Innova is not doing the customer any good...

(/soapbox)

The saddest thing about this is, I really don't know of another disc with that combination of speed/turn/fade. I was hoping to get one since my Champ Leo turns a bit too much for some uses. Warship is in that slot now, but I'd rather have something closer in shape and feel to my leo. I guess I need a fresh heavy leo.

You got that right. For me, it sits nicely between my Z Buzzz and my G* Teebird. There are holes that I can't quite reach with my Z Buzzz and my Teebird will fade out of putting range with the room I have to work. My Pro Gazelle is juuust right. A fresh DX Teebird will fill that role for a bit but then becomes unreliable for me after worn in.

A year or so ago after my bag settled in, I bought three or four of them. Still, they'll run out eventually. Sad.

One run, 2002. This was the transitional plastic, after C.E. got clearer, but really its pre Champion. The nice thing is these are all domey, unlike the 11X run, which came out in 2004, which are flat.
The domey candy run is less stable, with better glide, more of a hyzer flipper, like a seasoned Pro or Dx run.
I like it better than the 11X, its like a little bit slower Eagle L.

JOEMAMA 12-15-2015 02:06 PM

About a month ago I finally broke down and ordered some Star Gazelles from the factory store and I could not be happier with these discs. They are max weight and fairly domey, I personally like the dome, pretty OS for a Gazelle but the one I bagged is starting to develop a little turn. I use this disc for all kinds of shots: backhand, forehand, thumber and tommies. These things are work horses. Any one out there tired of spending money on premium plastic in the hopes it will fly like a Gazelle like I was should seriously consider investing in some these. It's pricey when you factor in shipping and tax but if you get over $75 it's free shipping, as many of you know. Just leave the 175 white ones for me ;).

I already have three oranges and four whites, all in 175, so I am set for a while, but I definitely love the Star Gazelles. If I needed more, you would find competition for the white ones. As it is with any discussion regarding colors, I can give no real reason why, but the oranges do seem to fly better as they season, or at least hang on to that perfect stability goodness. I have fewer throws on my whites as they are reserved for the tournament bag, but aside for the Gold Line Pure, there is no disc I trust more than my Star Gazelles.

Curtis_Valk 12-15-2015 08:03 PM

I prefer the Pro Gazelles which have just a bit of turn right out of the box. I haven't noticed any change in flight and I've had the same one in my bag for quite some time. Next field day though I might try a star to see if I'm missing anything.

geo_08 12-18-2015 03:05 PM

So other then ordering from Innova's pro shop, anybody know of a good source of non dx Innova Gazelles under 173?

I'd like to find a pro, love my stars. (I have a 9x cheetah if anybody wants to part with some stars or pros).

Then on a side note, can anybody think of something from another manufacturer that is close to a gazelle? Marshall street lists the GM, but I haven't felt one of those up. To my understanding it is more mid like, but what about the flight? MVP seems like it is making a move for the 1.6cm speed 6 drivers (Relay), but are there any others you can think of?

brandocommando9 12-18-2015 03:57 PM

Cyclone?

BirdieMachine 12-18-2015 04:17 PM

You have the Zombee and Stalker but both are larger diameter. I think they are both 1.6 rims. The other is the Kaxe which is a tweener and likely a little shorter Gazelle. 1.5 rim on the Kaxe/Z.

That was my suggestion as well. Kaxe has been a game changing mold for me.
I love it and see myself bagging it for a loonnngg while.
