Hygroscopic is absorbing water (from the air)
Plastic absorbing water? I can see that, before a fall/winter tourney I will store my discs inside overnight for better grip. You know what gets me is metal absorbing water as well. Have you ever welded and pre-heated or tiger torched the steel? Perhaps you have a burn barrel and when you light it you see the moisture coming out on the outside of the barrel.. That blows my mind! |
Yeah, most plastics are moisture sensitive. Some more than others.
For example, can't really 3D print a nice smooth surface from a moist PTEG. It will come out all bubbly. Nylon's are even worse. |
Looking to possibly replace some molds in my bag. Nothing drastic, but I'd like to support gyro a little more than I am currently  I lost my Resistor today (was looking for it and pissed off some wasps ) and am considering picking up a 168-170g Fireball or Motion. I love the Resistor, but the wider rim feels a lot better in my hand, BUT I do like the workability of the slower speed of the Resistor. Can anyone offer advice?
I'm also thinking about replacing my Buzzz OS. Maybe having a tick more overstability would be nice, but the important thing is that it's not a dump truck. It's very workable, but reliable in the wind and on flex lines. Before this summer, I missed a bunch of releases like the Pyro and Runway, so I'm not as familiar with those molds. Thoughts? |
Dude at a shop told me some of the kinda bubbly looking rims on star and champion glow plastic are due to moisture in the mold. Izzat hygroscopic?
Not talking about blizzard plastic. |

Superstition - sure. You're entitled to your opinion. I've been throwing for nearly 22 years. You? 4. |

Runway is the same feel as a buzzz OS to me but the one i got (neutron) was pretty **** beefy... I would try Runway first because the feel would be the same. If the flight doesnt work, try pyro |
I love the Pyro, it’s really controllable and can go pretty far on the right line.

I'm merely relating facts as I've learned them from experience. How many injection molds have you built? How many presses have you climbed into to troubleshoot molding issues? Have you ever actually been inside a molding facility? I thought I had a perspective to share that most people don't. But hey, what do I know? Enjoy your old stuff. |

Hey, You've learned a lot working in a molding facility. That's great. Your facts are appreciated. Keep learning. It's good knowledge to have. Just keep in mind - those facts and knowledge - that's the manufacturing side - not the results side. Sure - in short period - you might see semi-consistent results. But time and varying conditions will make the range of consistency in the end result expand. That's why its imporant to obtain feedback from the client. They are the ones who will experiance the range in results. The longer they've been exposed to those results while remaining active customers, the better the feedback. |

For the Buzzz, you'll want to test out the Matrix and Reactor. Reactor tends to be straighter and more release sensitive. The Matrix will flex more left to right more but will cover form flaws better. I like the Matrix cause I can give it some OAT and achieve fairway distances. With the Reactor, I had a tendancy to turn it over when I added OAT. It'd bomb when I didn't. |
