He was -8 thru 10 before a bogey on 11. Got the stroke back with a bird on 13 though. With 5 holes to play, he's climbed from a 9way tie in 50th into solo 3rd...
|
Brodaaaayyyy!
|
Looks like i jinxed him, lol
Maybe not, he fights back with a bird on 17 after a bogey on 16. |
Had another good one going today until...
He was -6 standing on 14s tee... and went bogey-par-bogey-par-dubogey to finish -2 for the day |
It seems like he's had quite a few late-round hiccups this year. As a pro athlete, it's hard to think conditioning would be the issue, and he's used to the heat in Texas...maybe his surgically-repaired knees have trouble holding up to 3+ hour rounds?

It's just comes down to consistency and inexperience. He's still learning the game's finer details. When to throw what shape of shot, FH or BH, with what disc, in what wind, on to what kind of slope/flat ground. He's also still got some nose angle issues. Combine those, add a little pressure from competing and you get a recipe for some bad stretches of holes sometimes. IMO, it's mostly random when they occur. |
Brodie Smith? More like, Bogey Smith! Amirite?

Was wondering why he wasn;t at The Preserve. Thought he was signed up for it. Hopefully he can make it to Idlewild in a couple weeks.

I don’t pay attention to his social media, any idea if he’s indicated previously that they’ve both been vaccinated?
Not trying to make it a discussion of that’s what you get for not being vaccinated. I’m in IL right across the river from St Louis. Right now Missouri is pretty much the worst place in the country as far as delta variant spread is concerned. St Louis city and county put the public mask mandate back in effect this week even if you’ve been vaccinated. The decision is going to a federal court to determine if they have authority to make that call. The point is, I don’t necessarily know if we’re in the clear yet, or around here at least. Reports have said that in our area we pretty much only have delta at this point. It seems as if things aren’t as certain anymore as far as how vaccinated individuals will fare being exposed to delta. |

I would say definitely not in the clear. maybe we're headed towards a world where everybody gets covid at some point in their lives, but I'd like to wait as long for that to happen to me as possible so that the side effects/long haul symptoms can be studied more and possible treatments developed. and that's coming from somebody relatively young/healthy anyways, I'm trying not to get too off topic. hope Brodie and his wife both fully recover as quickly as possible |
A recent mass outbreak in Mass. was delta variant where the majority of cases involved people who had been vaccinated, so it’s definitely possible for that variant to infect you even if you’ve been vaccinated. Studies also showed that those who had been vaccinated were definitely carrying virus in their nasal passages and were likely just as infectious as those not vaccinated.
The vaccines still provide very good protection against severe illness, hospitalization and death. I believe they also provide protection against infection, just not as much protection. That doesn’t mean you won’t feel bad if you get it and are vaccinated, just that it’s (much?) less likely. So, absent a statement one way or the other, the mere fact that they are feeling ill doesn’t tell us much about their vaccination status. |

I think he owes his throngs of social media fans an answer either way.....it's what a good maven does. Oops.....did I say that out loud? :o |
Pretty funny how nobody wants to come in and drop Brodie's recent puke tweet but immediately wants to talk about his next feature card get. Brodie fans are insufferable, just like him.

^ enlighten those who don't play in tweet land

Having just googled "Brodie Smith Twitter", it could be any of about a dozen recent tweets. Dude seems to get his rocks off by being antagonizing.
If he wanted to have actual conversations about the topics he is raising, he probably could, but that doesn't seem to be his goal. Seems to basically posts hot takes about specific discs being mentioned on coverage, or how bad live coverage commentary is, etc. Then he spends his time singling out and chirping at people who chirp at him. The proverbial "dish it, can't take it" guy. Gets huffy when people post hot takes about his hot takes. |

I was interested in seeing how Brodie would do jumping into touring golf, but now it's just bored and worn out. He's moved up 9 points this year, and while that's decent when you're 1000 rated, I don't think there's going to be any major jumps and he'll likely level out at 1015-1018 tops.

He has found a lot of distance this year and he's averaged (not weighted) 1018 this season and about 1022 over the last 3 months. There was a point where I thought he would top out around 1018, but now I think he can be a 1030+ player. ...and I don't look at his social media or watch his vids or listen to his interviews, so he doesn't annoy me.:D |

That said, at the moment, he's at a place where I don't really care about much except for the commotion he brings which serves as a little side storyline to the parts of disc golf that I actually care about (disc golf itself). I think he will get to where I'll care again by virtue of being impossible to ignore by showing up on lead card coverage and competing if not for victories at the highest level - at least making it feel like he has a chance at some. |

Joe Schmoe off the couch isn't doing what Brown did coming to the sport in his mid-30s. Even with tons of work. |

Kind of hard to compare the two in their start in the sport, I doubt Pat had nearly as much experience throwing frisbees or a 5x World Champ tutoring him from the start and going into disc golf as full time job. |
