Discmania is owned by the same conglomerate parent company as L64, DD, Westside, Kastaplast, and some others. I do not recall where I heard that info. So this does not mean it is trilogy.. it means the parent company that owns trilogy also owns Discmania. Iím going to try to find that source. I thought there were very few mega-disc-golf-holding-companies.

Not totally calling BS on this one but I donít recall seeing anything about Jussi selling his company.

He is working with Latitude to get his own production up and going and I highly suspect they may be sharing mold pieces and plastics and I know Tomas has probably been helping them re-engineer the molds for their ďoriginalsĒ line but I believe Discmania is still its own company and not owned by some sort of conglomerate.

Obviously, I could be totally wrong. Iím not some sort of industry insider.

It is pretty interesting to look at say a Cloudbreaker and Grace, the plastic and general feel is remarkably close even the embossed parts look very close in design etc. So yes there is definietly a close relationship up there in SkellefteŚ but I cant say I have ever heard DM was under the same ownership as triology.

CD1, DD1, FD1, and Tailor all Discmania PDGA approved discs as of today.

Hmmm interested to see what the "fd1" will be. Maybe an understable FD to replace the TD?

I don't hold a lot of stock in the measurements from the pdga, but the CD1 is very close to the original CD and the FD1 is very close to the three tooled FD2. I really would love an out of the box understable fairway from the originals line up. (as well as an understable throwing putter)

That would be good news but also confusing because then what would the FD2 be? Not a massive difference in stability between a 3 tooled FD2 and a MF FD3. Maybe the FD3 will be retooled to be more OS? So many questions

I would be excited to see
FD1 9|5|-1|2
CD1 10|5|-1|2
DD1 11|5|-1|2

Doesnít make sense to duplicate the 7|5|0|2 Instinct flight in the FD1?

Dynamic Discs owns Dynamic Discs and Latitude 64 produces discs for them. Latitude 64 and Dynamic Discs own Westside and Latitude 64 produces discs for them. Latitude 64 has an ownership stake in Kastaplast and produces discs for them.

It would not surprise me if Latitude 64 owns a minority share of Discmania, but that has never been disclosed.

I know I heard somewhere there is a parent company to Latitude64. Someday Iíll find it.

I have thrown and own the three-tooled FD2 and the MF FD3.
At least for the discs I have thrown, the FD3 and FD2 are very different in flight.
The FD3 is an overstable fairway driver, think Firebird.
The 3-tooled FD2 is a stable fairway driver, think Teebird.

I canít imagine wanting the FD3 to be more stable.
Maybe I got it wrong.
I may get them out and throw them againÖ

Flick Maniac 11-29-2022 05:24 AM

I like discussion but it kind of infuriates me when people are like "fact: x. but i dont know where I read it" even if you subsequently go back and say yeah maybe I have it wrong. Someone else will read the first bit, and repeat it somewhere else.

This is doubly true when discussing PDGA rules. I always say find me a direct quote from the rulebook and point me to where exactly it says this, even when you think you are 100% sure thats the rule. It might have changed. But I digress.

You can easily google Spin18 and see lots of the company figures, who sits on the board etc. Thats the big company that has different subcompanies/brands under it, including Discmania.* Nothing tells me Latitude 64 has a major share of Spin18. I have no need to get pulled into an argument about the whole "they say they have their own machines, but really Lat64 is doing it for them"

I have bagged the 3 tooled since it came out and have always had an FD3 in my bag. My point is if the FD1 is the equivalent of a 3 tooled FD2 then what will the retooled FD2 be? There is not a big enough gap in stability to have an FD1 as stable as a 3 tooled FD2, a retooled FD2 being more stable than the FD1, and then have an FD3.

We learned recently that investment firms Ventis Capital and Equip Capital have purchased a controlling share of Mountain Village - the company that owns Latitude 64. This comes just a few months after Latitude 64 acquired Kastaplast and entered into a manufacturing agreement with Discmania.

I do t know if it was that video, but it was that information, thank you! So Discmania is NOT owned by Mountain Village, but is a partner to L64, one of the subsidiaries.

Also, I did see that Spin18 is Jussiís company that owns Discmania and Disc Golf Park.

Just because the numbers are similar doesn't mean the new FD1 will fly close to a 3tooled fd2. It's all speculation until we get our hands on one or see some throws. It would be nice to have a more understable fd in the lineup, so maybe that's what this will be.

The Essence is my understable FD

B The V 11-29-2022 12:34 PM

I was thinking more along the lines of td2 under stability but in a 7 speed. Ya there is the Genius that is just that, but I prefer the Original plastic so much more than active premium.

If you didn't see Simon and Eagles video yesterday they are in the mystery boxes as a possible disc option! No guarantee obviously but they will be out there! I know I am selling some plastic this week to get some funds together to snipe whatever I can from the FB pages when people start selling their unwanted mystery box discs.

My box was DD1 (black yellow), Vapor Enigma (gray), Double stamp C DD3, Glow Magician, C FD3, Black edition MD3, Active Tailor, Double stamp exo hard link, and stock soft Logic. Nothing overly rare but a great box. The DD1 is a baby DD3. Slightly more stable than I expected but I threw a 380' laser ace run with it and then threw it 500' on a forehand in the field

S MD1 was the big one I wanted (they are in the US boxes as well) but luckily I have a stack of mind benders for now.

The tailor is quite a bit more OS than the numbers indicate. It honestly flew like my IS4 (maybe even slightly more OS than that). It feels nice in the hand and would probably be a great base plastic mid to cycle.

Maybe Tailor is the Discmania Roc? I have two Mind Benders, but S-line would be sweet.

I had a very similar box to yours. I feel a bit peeved that we didnít get a single Limited Edition disc. You? I thought thereíd be one in every box. I saw some people get two. How did we not get any? This is based off of the collectorís guide which indicated discs based on rarity. Feeling a bit bummedÖ

Contact Discmania. I have heard they acknowledged mistakes in the boxes, and will make good. (Heard on a random YT unboxing vid, so YMMV).

Canít argue against that at all. I think the issue, at least, for me, is the FOMO of another peak year, especially now that their production has ramped back up. Itís more of a gamble than a guaranteeÖ

Looking over the collectors guide, itís super weird the color way choices they made this year. Itís almost like a person who doesnít DiscGolf made the choices, because black, clear, green, yellow discs are the absolute worst for tracking your plastic throughout the seasons. They should assemble a team of loyal discmaniacs to design their mystery box next year, I will volunteer right now to be on their team and guarantee a profit!

Although it sounds like their following is in steady declineÖ

This is not a mistake or an error. Mystery boxes carry no guarantees other than the exclusive disc that comes in the box (DD1 for red boxes). It is always a gamble as to what you are going to get and I personally am relatively happy with the box I got. It would have been sweet to get some "rare" discs but realistically if I were to sell every disc in my box I would easily make back the $ value of the box and then some. Unfortunately the idea of mystery boxes has been ruined. People see what other people get in a random box and get upset that their random box was not as awesome. That is the idea behind the whole thing. You never know what you are going to get. When DM was produced by innova there were WAYYYYYY more x outs/factory seconds because Innova sucks at producing discs. So back then boxes were full of purely random discs. Now that production is more controlled and not as many x outs the boxes are gonna have essentially the same things. Also given the fact that if they aren't almost identical people lose their minds. I miss 2018.
