Ledgestone adds cash, subtracts penalties for 2017

I think this is a good direction for the tournament to go in. I don't particularly agree with the MPO scheduling, but it is what it is. At least they are trying to move in the right direction. Watching some of the holes with stroke and distance penalties were agonizing - seeing great golfers take double digits on a hole because of a silly rule isn't fun for anyone.

I was reading this earlier today and while I feel it's a move in the right direction and I truly appreciate what Nate is doing by listening to the players, it also feels like a bit of a crutch move. Players don't like Stroke and Distance punishing errant shots, so we remove it. Why not open up the ropes? I can completely see both sides, but part of Ledgestone's challenge was the fact that it COULD be so punishing for aggressive play and rewarding to "smart" play. I'm 50/50 on it.

However, without question, getting the local business involved in seeing the profit from 1000+ players/spectators/staff and adding economic intensive is pretty awesome.

Thank goodness. As a fan and spectator (online) it was awful to watch.

Yeah the stroke and distance change for this year probably isn't the endgame for the format of this tournament, in my opinion. It never used to hurt USDGC to have strict ropes and tough penalties but I don't think stroke and distance worked out there either. I kind of agree with opening the ropes a bit, but at the same time I don't know the layout well enough to know what sort of space they are working with, and if that plan would be optimal or not.

No one said anything about loosening the ropes up. The ropes will be present, and in some cases tighter. We are also removing one of the easier holes and then removing a par 3 and extending it to a long par 4. Long live the ropes!

All about finding that perfect balance for maximum separation and entertainment. Small steps, no sense in overcompensating.

There is nothing wrong with the ropes being tight. It's just really boring watching someone throw from the same spot over and over. :wall: I really appreciate the effort to listen to the players and fans.

Maybe you can convince Eagle to play this year.

To me this tournament is so boring, and not my cup of tea. Worse than watching ball golf? Cheers

I like Ledgestone mainly for the awesome fundraiser discs they come out with every year. Im holding out hope this year for a flag dyed Glo Z Buzzz OS groove top.

Like I said, I'm 50/50. I like that Stroke and Distance is such a HUGE risk/reward game and that it can really effect the play and scores. But, I also understand how frustrated some players could get. Meh. I'm split. I do like the added challenges you're planning to even out the removal of S&D. Either way, it's a huge event and I've always enjoyed it. I'm thinking about trying to make the drive down from Grand Rapids for the weekend portion this year. It'd be amazing to see it in person.
