Gotta say...after watching that solo round video I'm impressed with how quickly he is picking up the game especially the terminology and executing the shots. Much much quicker than most newbs I run into and especially quicker than I did. :| I'm kinda becoming a Brodie fan. Is this something I should worry about? Should I see a doctor? |
"300' tape is cheaper and more accurate BTW. They can be had for ~$30 and for holes longer than 300' bring a friend so you can leap-frog measure easily."
Good advice but I already have the measuring wheel ;) $9 at Harbor Freight, collapses into my disc bag - https://www.harborfreight.com/1000-f...eel-95701.html |
And yes, I am too becoming a fan too, even without meds. It seems like he understands his new audience, is respectful of the sport and has the physical tools to succeed.
Plus. it'd be awesome to see an MPO top finisher using a stand-still BH. |

I like standstill myself, but has Brodie mentioned why he is using it? Or is he planning on incorporating a run up?

Watching the Vegas vid. Goodbye turbo putt, hello scoober? Make it happen imo. Fun to see Brodie getting worked a little and making mistakes that I make.

Sure, he's got a lot to learn.
Stuff that took us a while, like rules, flight nuances, shot shaping, alternate lines, straddle putting, distance control, etc. But man, he can hit a line! Not always perfectly, not every time, but he can hit his lines way more often than not. He seems somewhat unpretentious, and like others have said, seems to understand his disc golf audience. Color me impressed and cautiously optimistic. |
Give him 2 seasons, and he'll be a real threat.

Insane to me to throw max drives stand-still. . i would kill my body if i did that
Just a small walk-up and everything in my throw feels so much smoother I just can´t use stand still beyond 150ft |
In that video from Sunset, on one of his approach shots he said something like, "I can do an ultimate throw."
He needs to eventually rely on that strength, and have a strong short game. He's Brodie Smith, not Paul McBeth. And maybe it's because it's he's just starting out, but I have to say that I miss the old Brodie. He needed a few more yells in there. Show some of that emotion. Obviously he shouldn't be yelling during tournaments, so maybe he's practicing being reserved. Not sure. It's interesting to watch this unfold. |

I run into a group of 6 guys that play casually on my home course from time to time. They're not doing anyone harm and just having a good time, but they all scream like grade school kids after each one of them makes a shot.
It does get old after about 3-4 holes, so I just chuckle and try to stay on the other side of the park from them. |
There's a pitch and putt here, longest hole is around 280', anything close to 200' is a course par 4. I'll never forget the day I was focusing on my putt and a loud and enthusiastic voice yells out "Eagle!" as somebody took a 2 on a 220' par 4.

There's a 190' hole that's got some tight gaps that I toss my Challenger on and I parked it one day. Heard one of the bros on the card ahead of me waiting at the next tee exclaim, "OMG HE THREW A PUTTER UP HERE." That gave me quite the chuckle... |

Whatever else people have to say about Brodie, he is definitely a smart man. Get the wife to love the game too and it will save you a lot of headaches about how much you play...:D |

Oh sorry, I forgot this is the thread where your grumpy oldmanness is on display... smh

No, that's just how the super fan boys take any comment that doesn't totally agree with theirs.

Step your game up fellas. |
64 pages late to the party. I think Brodie is a great addition to the sport. Anyone who gets positive attention is an asset. I remember 8-9 years ago thinking Cubby hurt the sport because of his videos making disc golf look easy and not legit. Yep, THEE Carl Cubbage, one of the greatest ambassadors to our sport. People will come around to Brodie, or he will fade away.

^who's this new guy?:D

I wouldn't take my wife there, however. BB is probably the most sketchy course in DFW (although Mountain Creek comes close) - needles left on the ground near teepads and benches, homeless dudes living by the creek and lots of dealing going on in the area. |
