Incentive
Quote:
Im betting his contract is more complex than most sponsored players. Maybe incentives/bonuses for tournament appearances and for lead card/top ten finishes, but also lots of social media/YouTube collaboration with other Discraft team members on his platforms. |

I bet he performs at a 980-level or better basically right away. Should be interesting to follow.
|
He has 2 million followers on youtube; 1 million followers on IG and I'm sure plenty on facebook as well. That's over 10x as many followers as Jomez. The second he decided to focus on disc golf, he became the biggest platform for disc golf. This is a marketing play by Discraft and it's a very good one.
|
I mean he was technically already sponsored by Discraft in some form in his Ultimate days.
His old videos always give a nod to Discraft. While I'm sure Discraft realizes the marketing potential, it was also a no brainer when he decided to go all in on disc golf. |

If anything hangs him up it's an injury IMO. |

Simon is an amazing trick shot disc golfer. He also has thrown over 1,000'. That has translated to DG popularity and...?
Brodie is no Simon. |

I think one thing that should help him get to an elite level, is course management. How many times on here do "we" get on Simon or PP about being too aggressive? He spent a lot of time learning how to play ball golf and that is one of the hardest things to learn about these two sports...
Its one thing to be able to make a shot, its another to know when to actually try it. |
Aside from all the hype and speculation...
Just think how much you could improve if you spent a week with PaulM and Simon doing nothing but DG training and technique. Priceless, just priceless. |

It's like how he casually mentioned all the time he's been spending working out on a Peloton to Terry, and Terry's like "yeah, do I look like someone who uses a Peloton?" And I'm watching, thinking "this dude can afford a $3000 subscription-plan stationary bicycle and I'm editing video on a nine-year-old laptop and eating store-brand cereal." edit: and driving to tourneys in a 25-year-old pickup with no A/C |

I'm not meaning he won't be a decent putter but I doubt his putting will be good enough to get him on lead cards in the majors. Not this year anyway.

One thing you would think he would be good at quickly... is taking a comet/rattler/putt'r and throwing a nose up stall at the basket from 80-150ft. I'm sure he's thrown that kind of shot a million times with an Ultimate disc warming up playing catch with someone before practice/games...

Someone needs to tell him about the Discraft Skystreak…
https://www.flyingdiscmuseum.com/img...68602455-3.jpg Its basically an Ulitmate disc that's PDGA legal. One of the older in guys that used to play in my weekend group was a sniper with one of these things inside 150ft. |

I wonder if it is entirely possible that the fans of just Brodie Smith are going to revolt every time he is playing an event but not on camera?

I went to use an old Wham-O disc, a Pro Jr 145 gram sized disc in my first year of play as my second disc for shots that I was not good enough to do with my Rubber putter. |
I prefer having a mixed bag. Then again I started playing when all there it just Innova & DC. For a new player today it would be exhausting trying to find a starting point with all the different companies out there each making great stuff.
I'm sure it's so helpful for Brodie to be able to zero in on one catalogue to dial in his molds. |

Its almost too bad he didn't pick Innova so he could throw Novas.:D |

TD: My mind's made up. Brodie's not on the feature card. Assistant TD: But his fans are revolting! TD: They certainly are. |

Nice. I wonder how they'll fly compared to the proDs...

I would love to see him throw some Comets... Bet he could REALLY sail those things.

1. Yes 2. I definitely think ANY disc golf media company would love for Brodie to be on the Feature' Card. In fact, I predict it will happen. 3. We can only hope so :| 4. We can only hope so ;) My bold prediction: Paul and Simon are not training Bro'Smith out of the goodness of their hearts. They want part of the Bro'Smith fame. They are going to start a YouTube channel themselves - My guess is just the 3 of them - Vlog / Trick Shots / Tour Life... PMcBeth = best disc golfer on planet + brings viewers to watch him make cookies. Simon = great disc golfer, loveable personality, Vlog is killing it + made cookies. Bro'Smith = 2 million viewers that would watch him take a dump if posted + could make cookies. Now consider if they put all their power rings together... Second Hot Take': PMcBeth, by far, moves the needle on pushing product. I would estimate he alone accounts for as much product being sold than ALL the other pros combined. Bro'Smith will have near the same ROI to any disc golf media company that puts out his rounds on the tour. That is why I think he will be invited to MANY Feature cards' (First Round) at events - even DGPT, NT and Majors. I would further predict that if somehow there were a Lead Card of the usual suspects and a 4th card at the same event with Bro'Smith and (Nikko/JohnE or some other volatile personality) the 4th card will get more views. As much as many would like the following not to be true, Bro'Smith joining the tour is the biggest news of 2020 by far. NOTE - So, this is what DGCR does to a person? I had never cared too much about any disc golf personalities, but have been sucked into the abyss. I now find myself genuinely interested in what happens next. Is there a such thing as DGCR Syndrome? |
Fish first rating was 978 and finished year 1 at 1000, and then finished 1020 year 2.

Is Ben Askren going to tour?
