can we get brodie et al's current placements at ledgestone?

Brodie is going for the most OB in one round price today

Yea... So much for my "he's going to play well" prediction, lol... At least he settled down finally and got a couple birds.

Jolt 08-15-2020 02:23 PM

I think Brodie is good for the sport so I hope he starts to place better soon or I’m afraid he will start doing something else

Brodie was never expected to do well, but heís had some good rounds. Is he shredding the courses at Ledgestone? Hardly.

But what he has done, is beat a world champion in a PDGA sanctioned event. And I might add, heís done it in the modern (Paul McBeth) era, where supposedly thereís much more competition than in the Ken Climo era.

How many world champions have you beaten in a PDGA sanctioned event? (Asking for a friend).

Yeah, that would make me feel really proud.
Hey look! I beat a guy that had the worst round or tournament of the year! I'm great! Lets all get freaky!

Jay Dub 08-16-2020 01:22 PM

I beat Climo once. I remember that real well. I took a 2 and he took a 3 that hole...

That probably would make you feel proud beating a world champion, but since you never have, I guess youíll never know.

Iím a troll because unlike you I donít have a problem with Brodie,
and I think he deserves a little recognition for playing better than people expected, and beating a world champ? Lulz

People expect a certain level of play from top level players, especially from world champions. So go ahead and make excuses for someone new to disc golf, beating a world champion (whoís been playing and touring for YEARS).

BTW, you still havenít told us how many world champions youíve beaten in a PDGA sanctioned event. Yet you seem eager to trivialize someone else for this very accomplishment, simply because you dislike him.

Decent round by Brodie today. -1 Limited the OBs much better than yesterday and managed to salvage a par on 18 after going OB on his approach with a circle 2 putt. Should be somewhere around 1010 if the ratings from yesterday hold true today.

With a week of practice and then a week at Smugs, it will be interesting to see how he rebounds from what I'm sure he sees as a very disappointing result at Ledgestone...

Or he is just going to drop out of every tournament the rest of the year.

I've beaten Johnny Sias before.

BryanC 08-16-2020 09:31 PM

I hope he changes his mind. If not, I'm going to owe Jay Dubs a disc.

Tpro 08-16-2020 09:45 PM

I’ll give credit where it is do. He played much better today.

Yea that kinda sucks but if he really is going to do this...

True, but getting in the field and getting reps will increase my skill faster.
...then I can see why. He's coming out of a few years of trying to get good at stick golf and like DG, you don't really get better in that by practice rounds and going to big tourneys and getting your butt kicked. You get better by going to the driving range and hitting a thousand balls a day.

So if he really is going back home to put in tons of hours of field work and comes out next year better for it, then so be it.

mizunodave 08-16-2020 11:43 PM

I'd enjoy hearing him talk for a few minutes on what exactly it is he thinks he needs to do. Self awareness of your weaknesses is an important skill.

Iíll be curious to see how this all shakes out. Seems to me part of his problem in rounds 1 and 2 were the long wait times. Not sure how heíll get better at dealing with those without practice but Iíll just have to wait and see.

Definitely comes off as super salty tho lol

autocrosscrx 08-17-2020 07:30 AM

I didn't go deep into the Twitter part, but I really see a problem, or even salt....

Critics say that he isn't ready for big tournaments and the spotlight yet. He states, or implies, the same and the same people criticize him for that, too.

what has he been saying in response to those critics up to this point?

Jolt 08-17-2020 08:10 AM

i understand that itīs not for his brand to be out of the top 100. . . but he still needs to play all the courses on tour a few times . . harder to do if he drops out for the rest of the year.

but his placement this week probably broke him for a few days. . .hope he gets back on tour for a few more tries

I have no idea. I like following his development on his YouTube vids. And he comes across as humble and hardworking on those vids. I don't follow his Twitter or IG or listen to DG podcasts or anything like that, so I have no idea how he responds to critics.

So if this is a rhetorical question, you are going to have to spell it out for me.

You can find one in most large cities around the world. I've heard.

I didn’t look that close, but didn’t he more or less throw his rating this weekend? Like, exactly what you would expect someone to do?

He averaged 974 so 9 under his rating.

brutalbrutus 08-17-2020 03:39 PM

Seems like he is in that zone around 975-990 where a lot of guys seems to level off at for awhile. I've seen it many a times around here with the local open players. Getting to that 1000 rating seems to take another level of control and consistency that you really have to put in extra work to get to.

I watched some of each of those clips. I think it’s kinda gut check time for him. Looks like he tried golf but that didn’t work out even though apparently he was pretty good? And dropped it pretty quick. Sounds like he came in thinking it would be a bit easier or he would progress faster. Honestly he is probably right where he should be with his level of athleticism and frisbee background. I still think it’s hilarious that people are like OMG he just started (no he didn’t). That 1000+ bump is pretty hard to get over. To be where he thinks he should be it’s going to take awhile... could be years. With all of that being said... The guy sure does seem to want to change the game a lot.

Iíd expect some of making that next step to 1000+ is also knowing your strengths and weaknesses and using those to wisely choose the events you play? The top tier pros will follow the payout, but for now I wouldnít expect Brodie to be relying on tournament winnings to get him by. Sure you wanna see how you stack up against the best, but at the same time if youíre playing events at courses that donít mesh with your style itís going to be tough to be happy with your performance. Not necessarily saying thatís a legit excuse to not improve the weak parts in his game, but being smart about where you play can have an impact on finishes and ratings.

I donít play a ton of dg anymore and am focusing most of my free time in the trail/ultra running scene, but itís the same principle. Even with something as simple as running you have strengths and weaknesses. Knowing the race profile ahead of time and how that fits into your style is a key aspect, especially at longer distances when thereís a lot more strategy involved.

As far as ďbiggerĒ tournaments left this year, what else is left that heíd be possibly skipping? USDGC, but for the moment he hasnít qualified correct? So the statement of skipping bigger events might seem like a big deal right now, but were in reality ones he wasnít planning on playing anyway?

There's still three DGPT tour events, Green Mountain, Maple hill and Jonesboro plus the championship. He obviously isn't going to qualify for the championship but the tour stops are still "big" events... and at this point, he is still signed up for GMC. He's also signed up for a couple A-tiers that were rescheduled from early in the season. One that Paul is also playing, Jacksonville Open and The Open in Texas.

He can bomb and he can putt. All in 8 months. He will be a solid disc golfer at a faster rate than just about anyone who has played the game. Is he yet? No. Is he on the path to being one? Yes.

Well heís been selling dark horse buzzzes for the better part of five years... Not to mention doing a trick shot video with Avery some 8 years ago. So for people to think that 8 months ago he was like oh man Iíll try this Discgolf thing is just ridiculous. Heís got all the tools to be good, heís a top notch frisbee thrower. I just donít buy he just started a few months ago. In one podcast he talks about having a 10x KC Aviar. Kenny won his 12th in Ď06. Should I continue or do you kinda see where Iím going here?
