Finally tried the FD, right to the bag perfect disc!

Jenga54 04-20-2015 09:43 AM

C Line? I have a G Line that is not straight. too flippy

grotto 04-20-2015 10:03 AM

Quick question; does the MD1-MD2 or MD3 have a bead?

I can't see any of these in person. I wish more websites showed close up profiles.

Thanks in advance

Jenga54 04-20-2015 10:10 AM

No on all of them. The MD1 has a "flare" looks like. MD2 and MD3 do not.

Also from this thread I'll be looking to pick up a P2 for driving and an MD2 to go between the Mako3 and Roc3. Want to kick out the Buzzz.

Also waiting to hear about the new understable mid coming out soon...

Yeah you definitely want a C-Line fD. I have a 175g Red champy star that is very nice as well. Normal star and G star are too flippy for my arm in 7 speed.

What you meant to say is you throw them too hard for them to do what they are suppose to do. A s line FD is a thing of magic once you learn to throw hyzer flips or long turnovers with it. The FD will do anything you want it to do if you know how to.

Flick Maniac 04-20-2015 11:58 AM

whats a "flare"? people keep insisting that the MD2 has a microbead, which might well be, however i think what most people want to know when asking is if it has a normal bead or not. I think all else is mere cosmetic details

You are very correct. I guess my post sounded real dumb haha. I guess what I meant is depending on my power I can get the c line to do anything, as well! Just prefer it as it's more stable, but I can still turn it over if I rip on it.

The champy star run I got 2 of is beautiful. Star Grip, Champ beef. Somewhere right in the middle, it's pretty sweet!

fD is the best disc.

dehaas 04-20-2015 08:11 PM

This might be the best place to ask, or maybe it is depending on how you look at it. I'm gonna have some more discmania stamped up for the 2015 3 Man Throwdown Against MS, what molds, plastics, and runs would people want?

None of our current mid lineup have beads.

We've also made it very easy to tell for the future, all Discmania discs with "X" in the name will be beaded. Our first beaded disc release was the P1x.

I would suggest C-Line CD2's, P-Line MD3's, and...I'm actually not sure if we do these as custom stamps or not but if so (aka check with Ryan) Color Glow P2's if you're looking for things that will sell.

The under stable mid came out the other day I believe. http://store.discmania.net/index.php...c-line-md.html

They do have what some refer to as a microbead. I'm not sure what the technical name for it is but I'd say that's a pretty good description. I mean there's definitely something there it's not flush like a Mako. You can't really tell when it's in your hand like you can with an actual bead like on a Roc though.

Perfect answer! Thank you.

And I look forward to trying the P1X

Flick Maniac 04-22-2015 07:53 AM

is that x=bead comment a veiled insinuation that a MDx could be in the works some day? as the gatorlike highly OS mid? hmmmm

SpikeHyzer 04-22-2015 08:53 AM

A P3x could be interesting...that's for sure ;)

I am super stoked for MD's to arrive in the mail today. If I get out of work on time, I might try to sneak in some course time with these today...maybe even a few video clips.

OK - Prototype MD Review:

Tentative Flight Numbers (for those who care about them): 4/5/0/0

I tested two max weight, domey, and pretty stiff ones. For reference my radar gun speed average is 64mph backhand, my distance driver golf (DD2/PD2) shots fall in the 390'-410' range, and I use a pretty standard fan grip on mids/putters.

Don't let the 0/0 fool you, these things can handle snap. They like to rise and glide out nicely, very pretty flight pattern to watch. With the dome even when you attempt low laser lines they still like that rise-and-glide-straight type flight. I was pleasantly surprised as I expected them to turn and burn. Even when I tried to force anny to burn it into a roller it just held the angle to the ground.

When I was just starting out my favorite midrange was a Coyote, and the MD is very reminiscent of that disc. The mold itself is a derivative of the same Coyote/Mako family so the reasoning is obvious. This disc stays true to its lineage and cousins as the dictionary definition of "stable" - it likes to get flat and stay that way.

I watched Simon throw it, and even with his power it surprisingly never turned over, it just drifted right yet seemingly magically moved back left at the end and landed dead straight ahead from where he teed.

This is a very interesting mold, and we definitely don't make anything with this type of flight pattern. Admittedly Simon and I were skeptical pre-test, but after two days of throwing it in various wind conditions I'm confident enough to label this disc as a reliably straight-finisher that likes high lines to showcase that beautiful slow glide even in mild winds.

Kinda sounds like an opto fuse, can you give any comparison to that?

How about a new D-MD2?

fasteddie 04-23-2015 09:12 PM

I was under the impression that the MD1 was being retooled as an understable mid?

it doesn't sound understable from the reviews I've read.

New013 04-23-2015 09:44 PM

yeah i was honestly hoping for a workable disc you can flip up and turn and have finish right. that doesn't sound like what this is... guess i'll continue to beat the crap out of a PMD3 until it flies like I want.

Peter S 04-24-2015 10:35 AM

Any plans to release a S-line P3?

Same here

AlexJensen86 04-24-2015 12:19 PM

Are the "new" Shield stamp P line p2s different from "old" p line. Now that the KP2 are being sold as a separate plastic, are the regular p line way softer than they used to be?
For reference, I have p line p2s marked PP2 and KP2 from the last couple years, I also got a couple of the new KP2s and the KP2s feel slightly more rigid on the flight plate. I just want to make sure that the regular P line hasn't been made way softer now.

For recent runs (the past year or so here) P-P2 is the softer of the two runs. The newest run of KP2 are extremely stiff and are for sale on the Discmania Store right now. Unfortunately they had a smaller run of the tacky P-P2 but that was just bought out by one person :(

If you ever want to offload those softer P-P2 I am your guy ;)

Yeup, that's my definition of an understable mid as well. Oh well; I'm sure the MD could find a spot in my bag, and it may, but I'll still be bagging an understable mid (rolling with a Fuse right now) for now.

fasteddie 04-24-2015 10:41 PM

as a huge supporter of discmania color me underwhelmed.

from what I've read we have the same situation as before, three stable mid range molds.

a saving grace at this point would be if the MD1 is still retooled to an understable flight and the offerings go:

MD-stable/neutral I suppose
MD1-understable
MD2-as is
MD3-as is
MD4-flat overstable hog.

GM-just hanging around by it's lonesome.

Yup. Have a Mako3 that was just a hair understable out of the box, and in the long run (like a year or more) it might flip like my fuse does, but for me I guess I'm gonna hold tight. :\

For me there's a difference in a disc that "holds a line" and one that will turn in the air and move right coming up off a slight hyzer release. If I have height - this P1x is awesome at "hold the line" and I can sweep a long gentle curve anny (Mako3 also). However, it's a thing of beauty in the woods with tighter ceiling to rip one lower and straight and know it will glide easy to the right until it lowers slowly to the ground.

Stupid Champ Panther 5/4/-2/1 bought 2 of them and they were both more stable than my Star Mako.

I haven't thrown the D-MD2 (shame on me I know), but I can say that brand new the MD I threw comes back to neutral whereas the Opto Fuse I owned never did...if it got to turning it never came out.

Well, hold on you're crossing some wires here, not meaning to be curt but just being blunt for clarity's sake -

- The new disc is the MD, not the MD1

- The MD was designed to be dead straight, which I think it accomplishes, and has a unique flight pattern that our other discs don't have.

- I also put details in my review for specific reasons. I threw a very stiff and domey one. By and large, those will be the most (relatively) OS in any particular mold. So take that into account. Ryan did also tell me that the ones I threw were not typical of the batch, so it's reasonable to expect less of a "comeback" to them.

- I didn't sand, modify, or alter the flashing because I wanted to see what they were like out of the box. Just FYI. I personally would rather have a straight disc brand new that goes into understable after a tree hit or two because otherwise discs tend to get squirrelly.

- I don't know who you heard about a MD1 re-tooling from to give you that impression, but either way I just wanted to make clear to anyone who reads that this is a separate disc :)

fasteddie 04-26-2015 09:12 AM

AH! I was assuming that the retool was the next release, thank you for the clarification.

OB Four 04-26-2015 10:43 PM

Is there gonna be a stock p-line p1x release?

New013 04-27-2015 07:49 AM

I get the beating the neutral disc in to US thing but it's gonna take a long time beat a champ disc in to the US disc I was looking for. It'll be much easier and probably better in the long run to just beat up a PMD3 in to that slot. Honestly if they just made a champ/star disc that was a bit US out of the box it would probably stay that way for a while. I've been throwing the same star mako for close to a year now and it still flies pretty much like it did the first time I threw it.

vogurt 04-27-2015 03:28 PM

Petition to make 2nd run fD's a permanent thing.... I am bombing mine 400+ feet, on an absolute straight line. It will not turn over, and it finishes with just a hair of fade.

I honestly have to think about whether or not I should throw my 2nd run fD or my destroyer on the long holes...
