So what happened to Brodie for R3? I don’t see him on UDisc and he doesn’t have a tee time on the PDGA site.

Finally answered my own question. Looks like the Tick got him, bummer. https://mobile.twitter.com/brodiesmi...830849/photo/1

If someone's taking doxycycline, there's not really enough sunblock in the world for the blazing summer Emporia sun. There's almost no cover from it on this course, and the medicine makes one particularly prone to sunburn.

Jugular 06-28-2020 02:45 PM

There's also a strong possibility he's succumbed to the 'Rona rather than it being his Lyme Disease. He was dry coughing a lot on a recent vlog.

Iirc, he said he was tested for covid before the rash appeared.

Accurate!

The sunburn issue while taking doxy is no joke. I chose to do a 30-day course after developing some new Lyme symptoms a couple months ago, and just going outside for 45 minutes or so caused me to get insane sunburns on my hands, especially on my knuckles. It sucked. No question in my mind that in the midwestern summer sun for several hours, a person taking doxy would be in some serious trouble.

wolfhaley 06-29-2020 02:06 PM

Just curious, what about it makes you more sensitive to the sun? I didn't know this, that sounds terrible.

. . . These photosensitizers, or chromophores, possess a unique ability to absorb ultraviolet light at the particular wavelength spectrum found in sunlight or artificial sunlight (UVA and UVB). This ability, however, is not the problem. Instead the unique structural characteristics of these medications such as halogenated aromatic rings or alternating single and double bonds lead to the destabilization of their chemical structure and a transfer of energy that induces a buildup of damaging compounds in the skin.

Whelp the latest batch of get freaky zones sold out within two minutes. Don't know why people are going crazy over these in the secondary market but I have to admit it's pretty impressive.

What I don't get is why doesn't Foundation Disc Golf buy them all and sell them at $100 and cut out the middle man. Heck they could even sell than at $50. I would rather see Brodie and Paul make the money than some random people on ebay and facebook.

I’ve seen / read both Brodie and Paul say they don’t like the raised prices on the reseller market, they’d rather more people had them than collectors and scalpers, etc.

Some will be cynical and say they are lying when they say that, but I’ve seen Paul curtail some fan suggestions (and to a lesser extent some of Brodie’s marketing brainstorms) erring on the side of the customer / not raising prices over MSRP. I’ve also seen Brody reply to fan suggestions with a “but how is that good for the customer” so I wouldn’t see them jack up the price of a disc over MSRP anytime soon.

That implies Brodie, Paul, and Hunter are rich? I didn’t know their net worth was known?
It also implies you’d rather have others jacking up prices and selling the discs for $100+ on eBay making the money...how do we know they are not rich? Generally it takes liquid money to speculative buy and resell at a higher price.

Were there more of them sold? I thought I’d read each color has subsequently had more available for purchase.

I’ll never understand collectors of anything personally, what do you do with all the stuff you collect other than store it?

I do like Brodie’s Get Freaky theme. Sort of a fun get out of danger, take a risk, try something new, go for it all mentality that is fun. After winning a Paige Pierce zone though not entirely sure I like the mold. Maybe they’ll put the saying on some other disc.

lol..I seriously doubt Brodie is anywhere close to being rich. Paul obviously is very well off right now. But keep in mind, we're talking about a very, small, niche market, where the pie is small and the slices smaller.

That could also be because green is a terrible color for a disc and most people who buy discs online aren't total newbs and know this.

brutalbrutus 06-30-2020 08:46 AM

I never understood people's fascination with those dull yellow/green discs that look like someone pee'd in the snow...

...or that manufacturers even have it as an option for that matter:gross:

Brodie is doing very well. Paul may be the only pro disc golfer richer than Brodie. Either that, or Brodie is #1 and Paul #2.

Which makes me wonder why folks get in line to pay premium prices on plastic to help him do more well.:\ Why? It's not like he's a struggling up and coming wonder boy, he's a past his prime ultimate player.

I heard this mentioned a few times, do we know any particular pro that has a large trust fund to support them?

4ormal 07-02-2020 08:10 AM

I had a friend that got me an Orange Get Freaky disc when they dropped. I only have pink discs in my bag, so the one Orange disc drives my OCD a bit crazy. On Monday I was all prepared to try my hand at getting a Pink Freaky, but I was an hour late due to the time zone differences. When I went to the Foundation Discord to ask if the new website was any better of an experience I heard the same complaints. Sold out within 30 seconds. People had them in their carts, went to check out and then they got a sold out message. I've left plenty of other sports/hobbies when they got to this point. It just leaves a really sour taste in my mouth. I was already willing to overpay for a basic disc, but the fact that they create a false scarcity to drive up demand makes me sick inside. This is frisbee golf, not some ****ty collectors market. Getting the discs in the hands of the fans should be their #1 priority. I don't want to have to fight a fellow golfer for a stupid piece of plastic.... All they need to do is set up some sort of Pre-Order system. Pick the Freaky and Color you want and wait for the run to be produced to be guaranteed a disc.

brutalbrutus 07-02-2020 08:32 AM

You could always just by stock discs and not worry about the hassle...

..... When I go to the largest disc golf supplier in Oregon and they only have 2 Zones of any type in stock.... Right.

4ormal 07-02-2020 08:36 AM

I wanted to buy a Freaky to support Brody. I'm not a fanboy, but I appreciate the effort he puts into the sport and his Youtube channel. He doesn't need to sell me on anything. I can live without a Zone, Discraft or anything else with massive hype. Like I said, I just wanted to support something I found value in.

Sorry, I'm old fashioned and don't buy online unless it's a last resort. Trying to buy a Freaky was an exception, but lesson learned. I'm one of those guys that buys a disc based on feel, I've gotta have that tactile connection with my plastic.

Got off the rails a bit.

Back to Brody. Glad to see Paul rockin Scoobers now. The Bro-Factor is rubbing off

If you're not a fanboy, then why buy one?

Why support Brodie? What does he do for you in particular?

What effort is he putting into the sport? His only effort is crossing over and looking for a new way to make money.

This all about creating an image and selling discs (and they're doing a good job of it too), but what is the added value to the sport itself? Bringing in new disc golfers? Perhaps, but have you run into one of these new Brodie converts yet? I have. A $20 back pack with $500 worth of plastic who can't throw for Sh%t but tells you how great every discs is and acts as obnoxious as Brodie does. Yeah, great, just what we need, more screaming idiots.:wall:

I guess I come from the era of PAYING for entertainment you enjoy. I've got my youtube adblock on and I'd like to support somebody for the work they put in. I like disc golf and I enjoy seeing a different take on the sport which Brodie is providing. I'm never going to have the chance to step in the ranks with the pros, so it's nice to see somebody with a little charisma start from scratch (albeit with previous disc history) and show what it's like going from not knowing the basics of putters/mids/drivers and going to playing over 1000 rated rounds in NTs all within a 6 months. Different strokes for different folks.

So, you'd rather support Brodie and the whopping 6 months of work he's put in over the likes of several other players who have worked their whole lives??? That don't jive with me.

Its about the content he have put out, not the amount of work he has put into improving his disc golf game

wolfhaley 07-02-2020 02:01 PM

You could support Brian Earhart and buy a sweet tour series Zone. Or just a plain ESP or Z or basically any plastic. Probably easier to find a pink one too.

It's not that at all. Couldn't care less about how you spend your money or who you want to support. Im simply saying that his reasoning made no sense. Lots of people have busted their asses over the years in the sport, doing clinics, overall supporting disc golf. Brodie has been here for less than a year.
