Geez, the sound the disc makes when it leaves Drew's hand is just ridiculous, lol...

I’m so conflicted about Drew. His hair, glasses, and overall mannerisms make me want to punch him, his voice sounds just like mine which is creepy, and yet the way he plays it’s hard not to root for him. His putter was on fire at Memorial and watching him rip a Buzzz on some of those shots was just nuts.

brutalbrutus 03-03-2020 08:58 PM

His voice definitely doesn't match a photo of him by himself. But when you actually see him standing next to brodie, it makes more sense, lol

dmadill001 03-04-2020 07:54 AM

Some interesting tidbits about Drew's mindset, things he focuses on to throw far. The one I need to work on is bending my knees a tad and actually using my leg muscles to push off. I can get my feet in the right spot all I want, but if my legs are stick straight it's not doing anything. Gonna explore that later today.

Oh, and also, Brodie can throw it really far, even with form that still looks a little iffy. Geez

wims 03-04-2020 08:09 AM

He got really long arms

I find Drew's grips really interesting. A three fingered powergrip for the really big shots and a modified index/pinky on the rim fan grip for the rest. He gets so much pop/spin/hit.

Brodie also knows how to spin a disc, understands release angles, coupled that with learning from the very best and full time job work ethic. He might be 1000 rated this time next year. Stick with it, I enjoy the vids and tips from the pros

How long until Drew is on Team Discraft? It’s inevitable at this point.

JuanA 03-04-2020 02:14 PM

To me, Drew always sounds like I have my YouTube playback speed set to 1.25.

Mike Tyson.

I dont think its smart for Bodie to be trying max distance shots yet. He is still learning proper form. I cringed at those last few throws just thinking about his elbow/shoulder.

Accurate smooth 400' should be the goal imo.

mshelton 03-04-2020 02:59 PM

Got to chuckling to myself thinking of a "Introduction to woods play" video with Brodie and MJ.

JuanA 03-04-2020 03:11 PM

In the video, Drew references himself, Eagle and Simon a few times. Drew seems to use a much quicker, more explosive move though compared to Simon and Eagle who almost seem to just walk into their hit.

Not sure where I'm going with that, other than it stood out to me in the video.

I agree, I think GG and Drew have similar explosive styles in that regard

Ehh... where I can definitely see where you're coming from with this, Nikko's "problems" stem from his passion for the game and his competitiveness. I've met him in person at the BG Ams flymart and he didn't strike me as an overly boisterous person. Does he get really fired up when he throws an ace? Sure but so do most people.

i had a roommate who was not a discer but did enjoy using my practice basket occasionally. he would see me watching coverage all the time and every time MJ was on, he would call him The Dungeon Master.

i can't help but think it every time i see MJ now

Flick Maniac 03-05-2020 02:21 AM

Different strokes for different folks. Check out Joona Heinänen from the LVC videos. Hardly ever does more than a few steps run up and then just annihilates the disc. As boring as these two tourneys have been, at least we have seen some amazing mashers of the disc. Oskari Vikström is another fun watch. The disc is just outta there on a ridiculous line. GG is still in a class of his own, but these kids are not far behind.

Him and Trystan Tanner, I think the commentary was something like 1mph run up to 75mph disc speed.

That would be an interesting card to watch...Simon, Eagle, Drew and GG.

This was BSF lead card a couple years back that I got to watch. It was tons of fun.

If I'm not mistaken, that's the card that Eagle set on mph record on the CCDG radar gun, no? If not that particular card, it was at that event

That is what I tell others about my putting style using more an open hand guide track with the non throwing hand. I did remake my putting in 2014 from a feet togther but I have since modified from the classic darts stance to a more open darts stance with the front foot pointed at the pole and back foot facing same way just further back in parallel. In 2017 adding a back kick in the Ricky/Simon style getting more and more until 35-40 feet it is time to switch to my approach disc then I start over as the disc is more OS then a putting putter. I have it so now there are steps for my putt so I know how to do my putt.

Old putt was a free throw basketball style that worked at the time due to my time playing/practicing disc golf. Before that I used with the Rubber putter the open leg stance and a normal hand use with no movement at knees just bent slightly as that 168 gram Rubber Putter had so much glide I could not throw the disc hard at all for putts ~20 feet and shorter So I used the slowest putt style I could think of besides Turbo as that would not have enough power. I had hands that even now that are too small to do a Turbo putt so I do a Flick putt both standard forehand putt and often unless I need clear a taller obstacle I have elbow bent at ~90 degrees with flick and wrist snap style if I have no room to do the forehand putt that I developed practicing putts in the back yard.

I watched it yesterday. :D

After an off season of miscellaneous disc golf videos filling the void, having new tourneys back is wonderful.

Unfortunately, now there are the weekday voids. Watching an old tourney was more satisfying for me than the random dg content that's been put out over the last few weeks since the season started. I guess that I'm in "tournament mode."

This is a great watch here below. Judging by Brodies most recent video he still hasn't addressed this, but when he does, he's going to straight up bomb

mizunodave 03-07-2020 11:00 PM

Scrolling through youtube view counts on Brodie's channel.

Most of his disc golf videos are getting anywhere from 80k to 130k views.

That's right in line with what Jomez tends to get. Which is great by that comparison.

However, scrolling back farther on Brodie's youtube you see most videos over 300k with lots over 1M and SIX over 10M.

Best I can tell in all the history of disc golf there have only been two youtube videos with over 1 million views. Philo's albatross with 1.3M and Jomez 2019 Worlds Final Round F9 with 2.6M.

Brodie was getting several hundred thousands of views doing the ball golf stuff. It's hard for anybody in any job to take a paycut. Evidence suggests the viewer base just does not currently exist to get Brodie the kind of view counts he is accustomed to. No matter how much he genuinely may enjoy playing disc golf, I wonder if he can afford whatever lifestyle he has gotten used to with these significantly lower views?

Hampstead 03-07-2020 11:04 PM

Wait a minute. Are you telling me the older videos that have been up longer have more views than the newer videos? Shut the front door!

mizunodave 03-07-2020 11:07 PM

You believe "Brodie's Smith's 1st round of Disc Golf (18 holes)" from 3 weeks ago and currently at 167k views is going to go up to 500k views?

Let's talk in 5 years.

mizunodave 03-07-2020 11:11 PM

Hard to say without seeing the analytics chart for those other videos. I've always assumed that most videos (that aren't like music videos) get 90% of their total views in the first couple of weeks. I'd be pleased to find out I'm wrong.

brutalbrutus 03-07-2020 11:24 PM

Some vids can go viral long after they're posted for lots of reasons.

One thing you probably aren't thinking about, is some of those subs he has were probably from giveaways he did years ago. Others are from people who tune in once in awhile when he does some insane trickshot vid. Others may not even get on YT anymore, or are even dead.

He has a hardcore base which is probably about where the 300k you referenced is. Some of those people probably don't give a **** that he is now playing DG but he's also picked up subs from the DG community. I haven't sub'd because the vids pop up in my recommended list anyway.

That's why I mentioned only 1% when talking about Discraft trying to get in on his market share potential because we haven't a clue how many of his subs are still active.

brutalbrutus 03-07-2020 11:31 PM

View counts are a strange thing. There is this fishing channel I watch, Milliken Fishing. He has just under 300k subs but some of his best vids are older ones and only have 15k or 30k views. But he has some random normal vids that hit 1mil and who knows why...
