Had a good one going today till he got on the par train on the back9 and then double doubled the last two holes... still managed to shoot above his rating though 1007

The question was essentially, "What do you think about it?" and he went off on this long unrelated tangent about player payouts that felt pretty forced to me. Almost like that topic is his schtick and he needed to find a way to bring it up to create some kind of artificial controversy. I think Nate generally agreed with him, but it didn't seem like Brodie really listened when Nate would say something like "Well you gotta consider... yada-yada-yada".

He probably went into the interview prepared to talk about that and was looking for the time to shoehorn it in. If I'm being honest, I thought that was much more interesting a conversation than anything he could have said about tour series discs and the secondary market. The fan Q&A segment of the show kind of annoys me cuz I think most of the questions are really stupid/irrelevant to what I actually want to hear about. I actually complained to Jarrett on IG about fan questions taking up too much time and got some back and forth with him about it. So... Brodie did go off-topic, but I'm glad he did in this case.

I've been listening to Runnin' It since week 1, and I thought this was the best episode yet as far as actually talking about disc golf as a sport and actually discussing THE GAME, which is what I want to hear about.

Is Jarrett going to continue "talking" on this show for the long run? I know he's the producer, but Nate is more than capable and most would prefer just to have Sexton singularly hosting...his own show.

You can see that Nate has taken over the “interviewing” duties a lot more since the early episodes, and Jarrett has moved more into the background. The podcast is evolving nicely.

Tomphoolery 03-14-2021 04:31 PM

Nate is great on it and I've legit enjoyed every guest they've had so far. I think Jarrett is backing off more, but it still feels like he's directing the content and Nate is kind of just going with whatever Jarrett says to do. I told him that Nate should be directing content.

Jarrett has experience and has run a some successful podcasts already. I think Nate saw an opportunity to work with a seasoned veteran and took it. I doubt that the pod would be nearly as smooth or routinely released if it was just Nate on his own. Pretty bold of you to say that the guy behind the wheel of other successful pods should just step aside when it's clearly a joint venture.

VictorB 03-15-2021 01:30 PM

Also just listened to the PMT with Brodie, good bit for the sport I think. Brodie did a great job relating layman information to the hosts

Are you Jarrett?

No. Just someone who has appreciation for the people working really hard behind the star names of a podcast, and not just Running It.

Was interesting to watch the first round and see even the big arms have to lay up to the side instead of going straight across.

I appreciate how hard Jarrett works on the show. I've actually spoken to him a good bit via social media.

I'm also dead certain that he doesn't have half the disc golf knowledge that Nate does and if Nate took the lead more on deciding what they're actually going to talk about, I think the show would be better. That's it. There's plenty more for Jarrett to do. Never did I say I wanted him to **** off and let Nate do the whole thing by himself. Unlike a lot of others I don't mind when Jarrett talks. I'm just getting annoyed about hearing more about people collecting NS Firebirds than actual talk about the athletic nuances of disc golf..

VictorB 03-15-2021 05:56 PM

That's not really what I got from you post but the nuances of text discussion often leave something to be desired.

I think Nate will eventually have more creative control over the show. But he's green when it comes to producing a podcast so he's probably learning a lot. I think it's better to have an experienced person to learn from as well as hold him accountable for a normal schedule.

The most true thing ever said here.

brutalbrutus 03-19-2021 10:19 PM

Shot a 1000 today after a hot start. Cooled off on the back9 again...

...seems to be a pattern for him

Hampstead 03-20-2021 05:27 PM

Shooting some solid top 65 golf so far.

Emoney 03-20-2021 05:35 PM

I thought Brodie would do well in Belton. Lots of open holes. He seems to struggle with tight lines off the tee so i thought Vegas, Az, and Belton would be his money makers.

He should probably just assume that this will be the norm.

DiscFifty 03-21-2021 12:08 PM

He's already made the excuse for 2021, saying 2022 will be the year he's really able to compete.

And if they scores ARENT in the double digits, the course is likely playing well about Brodie's skill level.....

Granted - we've been hearing that from him since early 2020. 2022 as the target year where he's gonna be a force on the tour.

brutalbrutus 03-21-2021 05:09 PM

Didn't play very well the last two days. 970+ yesterday and will be pretty much the same today after the rest of the cards are in.

Let's see how he rebounds at Texas States this week.

I don't think it will happen, but it would be pretty funny if he dropped below 1000 for the next ratings update

Since I like numbers, I looked.

Since his rating update, he had a really strong Memorial, played above his rating at Waco, and wasn't THAT far off his rating at Belton. And he drops some lower rounds from last year.

I'd expect to see him pick up a couple of points.

For the April update
Lose 2020 Waco 976, 979
Gain 2021 Memorial 991, 1032, 1034, 1020
Gain 2021 Waco 1018, 1007, 1012
Gain 2021 Belton 1000, 977, 982
Gain 2021 Tx States ?, ?, ?

Undoubtedly will go up a few points. He has 50 rounds on his rating now, so a handful of good rounds won't move it too much by themselves.

foreputt 03-23-2021 09:45 PM

Is he the lowest rated player on "tour"?

I don’t know if AJ Risley still counts as on tour but he is only 987.

this is why I love DGCR, you guys show up with cold hard facts. definitely seems like he will pick up at least a few points

"The most recent 25% (1/4) of rounds will count double once there are at least 8 round ratings."

Could he shoot poorly enough at TX States that it would drop below 1000? not sure if he would need to shoot so low for that to happen that the TX States rounds would not even be included haha

Damn, I remember just 3? years or so ago when he was leading a fully stacked field (same you'd see at worlds) at Ledgestone. He couldn't hold the lead against a surging McBeth but he did look like a guy who was young, big and athletic and one of the next 1040 gunners on tour.

I remember he really hurt his throwing wrist? shortly after that and he hasn't been at that level since. I like his humor. Count me in as a fan.

Hand calculations:
Currently (dropping Waco from last year, adding Memorial/Waco/Belton this year): 1003
3 rounds of 955 would drop him to 999. Possible, but not likely. He hasn't had a round under 960 in his last 43 rounds, and only has 3 rounds under 960 in the last year. 3 rounds of 1030 would increase him to 1005.

appreciate the quick math Todd. I definitely don't imagine that he will throw one round below 960 let alone all 3, but I was curious and now I know :)

Neither did Will Schusterick or A.J. Risley. An injury or two multiplied by a hard head of not sitting out and it can happen in no time.

Since I like numbers....

Looking at Will S's rating detail, he hasn't had 3 straight sub 960 rounds since he was a sub 950 rated player in 2006.

AJ had 3 straight sub 960 rounds last summer, but I think that was after about a year of being injured.

I don't think Brodie's game will degrade due to long term lingering injuries before tomorrow.

I remember Michigan local Pat Burke getting Will's autograph after he shot great at BG Ams in Intermediate at age 13 that year... Will said it was the first time he'd ever given signed an autograph for someone.

I agree... but that course did eat his lunch.

Not today apparently. -5 with only one bogey is pretty darn good. I didn't think his game would hold up to a course like Dogwood.
