-1 thru 3 to start hit a 38fter on no3.

brutalbrutus 08-07-2020 12:08 PM

Looks like brodie went OB going for the island green on no5. back to even thru 5

Jolt 08-07-2020 12:18 PM

He is usually a good putter but today he’s started terrible

Three of those first four holes are weird though. 1 is elevated. 2 is on a slope next to a pond and 4 is elevated next to a pond. 5 is also pretty tricky. Its kind of a death putt on a peninsula in the creek

Lol he just made his 2nd c2 putt... maybe he was just putting to too close earlier... The Kevin Jones syndrome...:D

That's a nice bird too. That hole eats me alive. Tight gap to a small landing area and then it turns right and goes straight up hill thru a tunnel.

brutalbrutus 08-07-2020 12:54 PM

Nice scramble on 9 apparently. Guessing he hit one of the tunnel trees and went left or right into the shule.

brutalbrutus 08-07-2020 01:25 PM

Still -1 thru 12... now let's see how he fares running the gauntlet to the finish line...

Good start. c2 putt for bird on the KY Gap

Cgkdisc 08-07-2020 02:01 PM

Looks like -1 is close to 1000 rated round so far.

Clarify.

OVER his rating or more strokes OVER par than I said. Not sure of context.

One thing is for certain. 4 birdies and 2 bogeys through 15 holes is hardly "Getting eaten up" or "wrecked" by Idlewild. Will he win? no. But will he perform. Absolutely. Better than some people expect.

Well the three bogeys on 15-17 hurt. Back to even par finished at 68. Coming in likely around 995. Not bad for getting "wrecked"

runningoz 08-07-2020 03:28 PM

Can't see where I said he would get wrecked. Odd.

It doesn't matter, the fans get upset easily.

ToddL 08-07-2020 04:21 PM

Mizunodave said the word "wrecked" and was included in the quote train.

mizunodave 08-07-2020 07:14 PM

Yep, I called for wreckage and was wrong, so far. If he gets through 3 days at Idlewild without a +8 kinda day I will never doubt him again.

ChrisWoj 08-07-2020 07:19 PM

Honestly I think its amazing that, given the amount of video evidence of the work he put in, that people still think he's going to come into one of these events and shoot like a tourist jumping on tour for an event. I feel like people are treating him, in their predictions, like he's someone like me - a nondescript nobody local joe pro who goes to these big events and doesn't take the course seriously enough and bombs one round before playing good local joe pro golf for a few rounds on a foreign course.

Brodie is coming into these events and taking legitimate time to practice the layouts thoroughly. On top of that - he's constantly referring to his long game and keeps leaking comments about "two years" into his videos - referring to when he thinks he'll be a "problem" on the course for other pros. He's aware of where he's finishing relative to the cashline, and okay with it (maybe not 'okay', I'm sure he's annoyed) and not going to hack through the woods because he's worried how he'll look in the standings after a few rounds. There's no impatience.

I think he's, especially considering the prep work he puts in before his events, at this point a pretty reliable 980+ guy, if not 990+ guy. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on the fatigue still hitting him from the little Lyme bout, I don't know enough about mid-term complications. I fully expect his rating at the end of this year to be in the upper 980s. If he goes into a tournament grind in the late fall down south maybe 990s.

ChrisWoj 08-07-2020 07:20 PM

I went and played two rounds at the course I'm playing tomorrow with a better head for prep just because of what I saw from Brodie in his video prepping for Idlewild this week. That's what you have to ****ing do, and his video is such a useful reminder of that.

mizunodave 08-07-2020 08:19 PM

I'm only being so pessimistic on Brodie this tournament because I live near Idlewild and have been "wrecked" many times.

brutalbrutus 08-07-2020 09:43 PM

Ouch @ 4:10 Lucky he didn't break his hand

I only played it once, but it more than wrecked me.

davetherocketguy 08-07-2020 10:10 PM

Man...First time I've watched him play and gotta say I'm really impressed. Needs to refine aspects of his game like the drive on 15 that got away from him but he gets some consistency going he'll be a force to reckon with.

Also, the big fella can putt - usually lol.

Of all the things Paul has helped him with, that putting form will likely be the thing that helped him the most in the long run.

So, Brodie and Foundation Disc Golf, is the first Idlewild post coverage to hit?? Hmmmmm....maybe this Brodie kid has some marketing game, hmmmmm?

I guess that's one way to get a caddie out there for him.

Edit: not taking anything away from the guy, he played pretty damn good. Just thinking he benefited from having (presumably hunter) someone from foundation helping him with what to throw.

over his rating which is well beneath his level of skill at this point.

Brodie works hard, both on and off the course. Nobody can deny that. That is going to take him a long way in this sport (and life). Regardless of what his ceiling ends up being (1030?) he's going to be successful in this sport, be it with his Youtube channels, Patreon, marketing, media, etc.

He's got that magical "it factor" which is really disguised as passion and worth ethic that is the biggest factor between success and failure regardless of the endeavor.

brutalbrutus 08-08-2020 11:48 AM

-1 thru 2 to start.

brutalbrutus 08-08-2020 01:13 PM

Well... if you're going to go bogey, dubogey… throwing one in for bird from 60+ is the way to respond on the next hole, lol.

brutalbrutus 08-08-2020 02:04 PM

He better get his **** together or this round might get ugly. Looking at a dubogey at least on the KY hole which would put him at +3 for the round with the hardest holes still to play...

Hampstead 08-08-2020 02:07 PM

1030?

LULZ

brutalbrutus 08-08-2020 02:12 PM

Apparently there was a scoring error in there somewhere, the dubogey on the KY hole was changed to a bogey 5

brutalbrutus 08-08-2020 02:22 PM

Bird on 14 helps...

Rastnav 08-08-2020 02:44 PM

I would think that the expectation should be that he will be inconsistent. From hole to hole, round to round, and tournament to tournament.

He’s been playing at the pro level for basically a month. Expecting or predicting consistency seems like a stretch. I wouldn’t be surprised by really anything that happens in a given round, from fouling the bed to shooting lights out.

brutalbrutus 08-08-2020 03:31 PM

Decent job of limiting the damage on the back9. With 4 OBs and only 45% for the round in fairway hits... +3 probably isn't too bad considering.

brutalbrutus 08-08-2020 04:59 PM

Shot his rating today... so law of averages gives him a 951 tomorrow, right?:D

brutalbrutus 08-08-2020 09:25 PM

tallpaul 08-08-2020 09:55 PM

Per this ^ vid; he was very pure with his ground green placements. Greens in the creek area (astro turf greens) have extremely little room for error. And (correct me if I'm wrong); he played them all fantastically...some from some distance away.

Yea. The shots on 5 and 16 were really good. The one on 17 was almost shorted into the creek but it barely made it.

brutalbrutus 08-09-2020 12:32 PM

Started -1 thru 6. Then took a dubogey on the tough no7 but backed it up with a bird on 8.
