Guess they're aren't clear of the Rona yet. Brodie pulled out of Idlewild.

Brodie's wife was Covid positive (not sure if he was too). He had pulled out of the Preserve due to this and now has pulled out of Idlewild as well.

Dammit, Janice.

Oh darn, we get to miss out on some middle-of-the-road pro disc golf. I guess we will just have to settle for watching more elite pros play Preserve and Idlewild. :|

I'd assume his wife is recovered since she's smelling farts in gas stations :o

Nah man, she be spreadin'. Seriously, I used to work in a gas station during college and the sickest and grossest people would come in without shoes, cough everywhere, bring their dog in to look at the hotdogs being sold. And this was all before the Rona. People treat a gas station worse than they would any other place in the world.

Seriously though, I am sure she is probably feeling better and am just kidding about her intentionally spreading a deadly disease, as I have no evidence of that or that she is even that type of person. But i do know those type of people exist in the world from plenty of first hand experience.

I just want everyone in the world to be happy and healthy; is that too much to ask?

Also, something something disc golf.

Thanks. brutalbrutus is so deep into the Brodiebubble that he forgets to give context of what the Hell he is talking about here.

As if "the Rona" was tied to the Brodiebubble in any way... ;)

I am enjoying the outrage about Brodies wife getting specialty stamped discs through Discraft.

I must have a super-power that relates to tolerance, because since Brodie has arrived on the disc golf scene, none of the grapes I have eaten have been sour.

Hampstead 08-15-2021 11:15 AM

I'm proud of you.

Emoney 08-15-2021 12:44 PM

I'm upset too...how does Star Wars have a specialty stamped disc....Star Wars doesn't even play disc golf....Star Wars and Discraft should be ashamed of themselves....

Is this true? Genuinely curious as I've considered it myself, and occasionally see some out there in the wild that seem to be personal stamps, though they don't seem common at all.

I'm pretty certain I could get them from gateway no questions asked.

I have no experience ordering from Discraft, but I imagine with the trouble that any retailer has getting stock discs in supply, that if some random intermediate level player approached them for a personal stamp, if it's something they *can* do, I can't imagine I'll make it on a priority list.

My recollection from my times ordering from Innova is that they will only do event stamps, for a unique event with specific dates included in the stamps.

Innova definitely does non-event custom (had some arrive last week)- needs to be event specific for TFR discs and benefits. Prodigy will do them as well. Discraft and Dynamic both certainly used to do them but I haven't ordered custom from either of them since pre-Covid so can't speak to their current policies.

It is. We gave away 50 user designed, custom stamped Discraft discs, as part of a year long, 4 league, CTP gig. We gave out one CTP tag (a cool numbered, leather clad, metal bottle opener) at one of our league nights every week. I think we had something like 20 winners. We did a drawing at the end of the year party for some really nice stuff. The above was one of the grand prizes. We offered our club artist as help, if requested. This was, of course, pre COVID and COVID of the unvaccinated.

Dr. Bogey 08-16-2021 11:34 AM

It's not a hot stamp, but DD makes custom DyeMax discs. The only mold currently available for this is the Sergeant, but I suppose the selection will expand once the supply and demand situation gets straightened out.

From Discraft? Right now? And receive them before next spring?

Looks like a month lead time currently according to their website. If they are doing what other companies are the disc selection will be pretty limited.

This is pretty much what we have been told. We ran our first tournament ever last weekend, without a disc in the player pack.

How was that received? Did you guys have something else in the player pack instead? Or just have a larger payout? Or decrease entry fee?

If custom orders are going to be difficult or nonexistent in the foreseeable future I’m curious as to what is being well received and what isn’t.

I was at an annual party on the west coast of Michigan. I am not sure how well it was received. We heard no squawking when we announced it....so that is a good sign. I think most players are pretty aware of the difficulties getting plastic.

It was an unsanctioned doubles. We did decrease the entry fee some and did not increase payout. Though it is a pretty good payout event. This was the player pack.

Did the “Janice” Thrasher prompt our newly elected PDGA board member to send this tweet to Discraft? Also, literally in stock on OTB!

I think she meant commemorative disc for missy's first elite series win

ejvogie 08-17-2021 03:41 PM

The commemorative discs are getting out of hand. We don't need a new stamp any time someone parks a 250' upshot

Mcbeth is easily my favorite player but I can no longer buy anything Discraft after they made 'janice' discs; beyond ridiculous and desperate. Unless of course buying one gets me into a line that allows them to be throw directly at the smith's without any legal ramifications.

Social justice warriors........yikes.

ejvogie 08-18-2021 06:59 PM

Well, certainly is crabby. Hopefully gets into that cocoon sooner rather than later and emerges happier.

*eyeroll* It's not. It is intentionally withholding something from yourself, to attempt to punish an entity, for perceived social inappropriateness. Of course, as with most "boycotts", the said entity could care less about the money or business of the "boycotter". Ultimately just turning out to be self punishing.

The point being....what do I care what Discraft puts on the front of a disc. My Magnets are chain slamming devices, regardless of whom or what they stamp on them.

Maybe I forgot the sarcasm font?

crabapillar 08-19-2021 08:16 AM

You don't care what's on your discs but basically every comment that hits this site gets you worked up and you can't resist to spam your opinions on each and every one. Solid logic...

Hopefully they start stamping 'janice' on all magnets next so you can happily pay an extra $5 each if you ever want a new one.

autocrosscrx 08-19-2021 08:59 AM

I normally don't care about stamps, but the Janice thing is a bit much for me. That isn't going to stop me from buying a Z Heat/Wasp/Zone, though.

What will stop me from buying Discraft is my local shop not having any to buy.

How can a stamp on a disc get you so triggered. This is the dumbest thing I've read here.

You guys ***** and whine about every single thing Brodie and his wife do.

dehaas 08-19-2021 09:54 AM

I could easily be mistaken, but I had always thought that Brodie’s releases were more along the lines of him putting in custom orders with Discraft and then selling those custom stamps. The first releases were at Foundation, which he has an ownership stake in. I’m not sure what the dynamic is with his site at Discraft, but Paige has a similar one.

People bashing DC for producing these discs and Missy not getting a disc for her DGPT win…I don’t think they’re the same situation. DC hasn’t produced a stamp for any of their players winning a DGPT event, correct?

Discmania and Innova both have, and that could simply be a matter of contract negotiations. It’s pretty common knowledge that there are bonus incentives for winning events. Instead of a fixed cash amount per win players could opt for a commemorative disc release instead, which could potentially be the better paying option, but not necessarily a guaranteed cash amount.

It all boils down to none of us know what the players and manufacturers have agreed to. All we can do is guess.

But yeah, lack of supply is annoying. I honestly think none of us really have any idea the scope of how fast things have grown the last two years and how behind the curve the manufacturers really were with being able to scale their production up that much. It’s going to take a long time for things to get caught back up.
