The Inevitable 2016 Pros Switching Sponsors Thread

Time to get the 2016 switcheroo rumor mill started.

During the Smashboxx podcast, a silly (well, maybe tipsy) Paige Pierce indicated that she would be leaving Prodigy at the end of the year. Later in the podcast, the SB guys reiterated that they hadn't planned on her implying/announcing her leaving but it had happened. Does she go back to Discraft? If not, where?

bhadella 11-12-2015 03:00 PM

Looks like another thread popped up before I could submit my thread (darn work getting in the way). Doh.

DanJon 11-12-2015 03:00 PM

Lat or Innova.

Inb4 Nikko switching sponsors.

bhadella 11-12-2015 03:04 PM

I heard locally grumblings about Big Jerm but his most recent video with the Prodigy A1 appears to squash that.

Halcón 11-12-2015 03:05 PM

If she really is leaving Prodigy, then why? I'd assume the grass could only be greener at Innova or Discraft (Maybe Lat, too), and her break from DC didn't end well, right?

I'm still waiting to see if MVP and Scott Stokely formalize anything, or if he just wants to keep promoting them for "free."

timj5304 11-12-2015 03:30 PM

She is not the only one switching from prodigy. There are many sponsored players that seem happy with them but really would rather be throwing a star boss or destroyer than the d series. They have decent products but so does everyone. Bottom line is outside of a few team members the next tier of players are not offered the same deal. I'd go innova, trilogy, legacy or discraft too

Kodachrome 11-12-2015 03:31 PM

yeah, sounds like geisinger is pretty unhappy too.

About as good as McBeth playing in the ADGT.

Here it is with a write up and a video that starts at that point of the Smashboxx podcast from Tuesday night.

http://www.averagediscgolf.com/paige...rodigy-in-2016

Nothing concrete, just a little blurb that could mean nothing or something...

runningDoc 11-12-2015 09:37 PM

Paige's got to be going to innova. She was prominently featured in SpinTV segments, even had scenes with her and mcbeth in a hotel room in Europe, Madison walker is innova and claims Paige is her wife.

hickmant72 11-12-2015 09:55 PM

WOW! if paige goes to innova then there gonna have the best female and male disc golfer in the world

sjberry2017 11-12-2015 10:04 PM

I'd probably guess Innova for Paige based solely on the fact she seems to be good friends with McBeth. I've also heard on this board she's related to some of the people running DD, so a Trilogy move would probably make sense as well

Monkeypaws 11-12-2015 10:12 PM

If I were a sponsored pro, I'd want as many alternatives for discs in slots as possible. To me that is Innova and Trilogy. Sooo many discs to choose from.

Guessing when he breaks the distance record innova will give him more than a run of 50 discs

I've thought about this too, and that seems to be my interpretation. I'll never be in that position, but if I ever was I'd be seeking Innova or Trilogy, anything else would be a stepping stone.

Is that all a Prodigy sponsorship gets you? I've heard that their top pros get $1000 a month plus free discs.

Nope. All of the top guys can win with basically anything. As long as manufactures have your basics covered they can figure it out. The "having every variation of every slot" strategy of the Trilogy and Innova is for marketing to ams, not pros.

Seriously?

A lot of close female friends say things like that.

People shouldn't read so much into it.

Madison jokes on Facebook labeling Paige as her [Madison's] work/touring wife a lot.

or you just don't understand opportunity and prefer to chase a wagon.

runningDoc 11-14-2015 12:26 AM

its a funny term, like work-wife, probably. During clerkship/internship for me in medschool my real wife would refer to my female group mates, whom I spent up to 36hr shifts and month long rural rotations with, as my work wives.

I never said I wouldn't take an opportunity to take a sponsor, local/smaller than one of the big dogs, hence my stepping stone comment. You don't just jump in to the biggest sponsor. Comparing my time as a "professional" power lifter, which is likened to the world of "professional" disc golf where really the top 5 maybe, are actually making a living on their craft, you take what you can get. My post was more fairy tale land-ish, IF I was one of the top players and had disc companies seeking me out.

Considering Innova IS disc golf and Lat64 (et al) is probably the most dynamic company in the sport right now, I wouldn't call it chasing a wagon.

DanJon 11-14-2015 12:59 PM

I think that if someone was really trying to make a living off of disc golf and sponsors, then their first concern would be what can the company offer monetarily.

Disc selection would most likely come second.

If it ain't got that Gyro, it ain't disc golf, bro.

Had breakfast today next to Geisinger and boy did that scrambled eggs and ham taste good. ;)
