There's a discussion on Facebook in the disc golf history group about BS. Most of the people in that discussion are saying Brodie is good for the sport but he won't be a top golfer this year or a few years to come. Most believe he won't stick around much longer than 1-2 years.
But they're just a bunch of grumpy old people yelling get off my lawn who know nothing about disc golf.

honestly his putting looks the most impressive to me. All the media ive seen, hes a very consistent putter

^recently yes. The Paul videos earlier were abysmal. We will have to wait and see. Like I said before, lots of people can do amazing stuff with the disc but fail at tourneys.

Yeah... there was this guy who made YouTube videos...

Totally depends what he gets out of it financially imop. He's used to a pretty decent revenue stream. He already has a non stamped start up kit that he can link to via Discraft to earn some extra money from his supporters.

As long as his rating is decent he'll be interesting enough to watch. That combined with his media savvy should keep him in the disc golf limelight as long as he wants it. Judging by what appears to be very legit disc golf training, field work, etc, I would guess there is a decent expanded contract or bonus waiting for Brodie when/if he starts playing well in tournaments.

He's hit that one, Greenbelt, Jimmy Porter and Dash track.

The one where I saw he absolutely crushed was dash's. He shot something like -17

I know one thing, if Brodie starts doing commentary on DG tourneys I suspect a lot of people will be owing Big Jerm and Mr. Risley an apology. I can't wait to hear every throw described as "freaky" and "sick."

brutalbrutus 01-28-2020 07:23 PM

People give Jerm(and also AJ) flak because he tries too hard to be funny, when he should be doing the straight guy bit and letting Nate do the humor...

wolfmandragon 01-28-2020 07:40 PM

Of the pros, Uli is the funniest. I am not for sure if it planned though.

Especially when commentating on his own rounds. Never easy on himself on his bad shots

I remember him saying while doing commentary that he saw a YouTube comment that said “inside 40 Uli is deadly, but outside of that he’s a total bushwacker.” I thought that was hilarious and appreciated that he could take a joke.

I always wondered why he never competes seriously. All he did were videos but never competed in any tournaments.

He did. Once in a big tournament. Go look him up in about 2015, I believe.

If it wasn't for his videos, I may never have found the Envy....

And then a few holes later he was putting from 50 and said “here I am bushwhacking.” Easy to listen to a person with that disposition.

Well when you use a word like Bush wacking it’s hard not to be entertained

That was one of my favorite commentary moments ever. Do you remember which round?
I can remember he commented on DDGC 2018 and Texas state champs 2019 and maybe WACO?

brutalbrutus 01-29-2020 06:44 PM

The one he did with BWill was so weird. Bradley kept talking about his shot like he wasn't there, lol...

Hampstead 01-29-2020 07:25 PM

Bradley is weird. He had some strange threads here a few years ago.

JuanA 01-30-2020 10:58 AM

Uli is fun to listen to, but I also think he does some of the best commentary. He's not just there to talk, but actually explains things well. I like Kevin Jones for this same reason.

Agreed, just wish he didn't sound like he was chewing on a wad of gum all the time. (er...maybe he is...?)

That Q/A thread is always good for a laugh.

TX championship I believe

Watched the vid of him throwing drivers in the sports dome w/Paul. Brodie can freaking rip. I mean, of course he can, but still. The great part is he's throwing so hard and straight with a form that still looks fish-out-of-water. When he gets smooth, it's gonna be something to see.

Most interested to see him with the mids, should be the next video.

The banter with them is all about selling discs, too. For me it was over the top and mildly predatory, but it's going to be effective.

discerdoo 01-30-2020 07:49 PM

Pretty pleased that I still have never seen a video with him in it.

Yes... I am admittedly stirring the pot. :D

Yes, I'm aware he'll be unavoidable at some point. I really only watch tourney coverage, I guess they'll at least put him on a first round feature card?

I don't know....I was under-impressed. I thought his throws were wildly inconsistent, really unable to throw a repeatable drive. Several misfires as well. He did lean into a couple throws though.

All I was thinking was, they could not have waited a few days for a break in the weather to go outside to film this? You could not really get much of an idea of disc flight or the differences between the molds.

I agree but also keep in mind this was a few weeks ago and he’s been practicing non stop since then.

Leaning into your throw is a rookie habit. I thought he was an experienced disc player already?
That doesn't sound like it.

brutalbrutus 01-30-2020 11:15 PM

Looks like he will need to play at least 1 small event... and that's if he doesn't tank it...

Upon the recommendation of the PDGA Majors and National Tour Committee, the PDGA Board of Directors has approved a minimum rating threshold for competition in the Open (MPO) division at PDGA Major and Elite Series events in 2020.

In order to compete in the MPO division at these tournaments, players must be rated 900 or better at the time they register for the event.

The implementation of this ratings minimum was added to the 2020 PDGA Tour Standards and will be in effect at PDGA Majors with an Open field (PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships, European Open, United States Disc Golf Championship) and all PDGA National Tour and Disc Golf Pro Tour events. If a player’s rating falls below this threshold between the time they register and the beginning of the event, they may still compete in the tournament.

Any questions regarding this policy can be directed to the PDGA Tour Manager.

Didn't look "wildly inconsistent" to me, but I'm also a noob so I might be speaking out of turn. Many of the discs he had never thrown before, too.

What I will say is that he certainly did not look ready to enter a top class event. He looked like a really, really gifted beginner with top potential, which is exactly what he is. I think the hype-eaters are going to be very disappointed that he doesn't come out ready to beat the pros.

He throws like the guy at the top of Intermediate who absolutely bombs but it's kind of all over the place.

Still very impressive for a guy who has been seriously playing the sport for about a month. He'll improve, but he obviously isn't there yet. I guarantee he knows this as well.

Anybody that really thought he would "come out ready to beat the pros" was delusional and deserves a let down.

Could be a habit carried over from ultimate, or him just getting used to a throw like that. Throwing an ultimate disc is still very different from throwing a golf disc .

I like how they picked a photo of him with a DiscStore branded disc in his hands. Come on Marshall Street
