He's had to work for years to build his brand, which is why he is able to get a deal so soon... and will have to work hard to earn his next deal. Seems to me that these "offended" pros need to learn the old adage, A rising tide lifts all boats. IMO, they should be doing everything they can outside of competition to help him succeed because it can only help all the players in the long run to have him be successful. It's not surprising that two of DGs more media savvy business people(Paul and Simon) are helping him... |

He's self made and got there by throwing frisbees. Why are you so upset about it? |

Or just agree on one disc for each to offer up. Value will have to be equal. I would want a Roc or Teebird or Valkyrie or Leopard or old Ching Aviar. |
OK. I don't have or know where to get any Ching Aviars, but I'm sure I have or can obtain some of the discs on your list.
If his PDGA rating reaches 1000 at any time this year, I win. If not you win. To be clear, we are talking about his actual rating, as published by the PDGA, averaged out however the PDGA does that for tournament players. A single 1000+ round does not give me the win. He needs to have a published PDGA rating of 1000 for me to take it. Game on! |

Bahahaha really going out in a limb there guy! 1000 rated in the first year is the floor of your measure of success? Brutal! |
He won't be around the sport in 5 years. Not trying to hate, but he clearly said he wants to see how good he can get, which doesn't really project longevity to me. He has a tweet from Dec 28 that says, "i'm seriously debating seeing how good I can get" which is weird.
I see nothing about what he has done in his career endeavors thus far that says he will actually stick around for more than a couple of years either. He seems like a dude that is genuine but ultimately gets bored and moves on. I wish him the best and all but from what I can see the dude will probably max out under 1000 rated before moving onto something else or bowing out due to injury. Who knows, maybe he devotes his entire life to disc golf for the next decade and beats Paul. Doubtful though. |
In 5 yrs he will be 38 and on the downswing of his athletic prowess anyway...
|
I think it's cool that a handful of pros are reaching out to give him some pointers. I've always found that open level players aren't so eager to let out their secrets. Could be just be me.

My bold prediction: Paul and Simon are not training Bro'Smith out of the goodness of their hearts. They want part of the Bro'Smith fame. They are going to start a YouTube channel themselves - My guess is just the 3 of them - Vlog / Trick Shots / Tour Life... PMcBeth = best disc golfer on planet + brings viewers to watch him make cookies. Simon = great disc golfer, loveable personality, Vlog is killing it + made cookies. Bro'Smith = 2 million viewers that would watch him take a dump if posted + could make cookies. Now consider if they put all their power rings together... NOTE: I am enjoying all of this way too much. |
^^^ Nope. It's all fun and games in the off season. Once the tour gets going, things will be all business for Paul. Simon.. never really sure where he ends up season to season. lol..
|
I think there's a good chance they will start creating content together more often throughout the season. The joining of their skills does make for compelling viewing possibilities. It probably depends if they can gel better on screen than the last video they did together. There is also the possibility that there will be very few lead cards without at least one of them on it which further improves the potential for their brand as a 'group'.
It's in Simon and Paul's interest to have Brodie's fans see their work and bring good content ideas, it's in Brodie's interest to have their weight with the current DG audience, skills for high quality work, knowledge and advice for his own development. They've got the connections and the know-how, Brodie has the ideas, the audience and the monetization. |

Simon isn't going to be involved in any part of a contract that Brodie signed with Discraft.

It was interesting that DC and DM were happy for Paul and Simon to swap discs for a round so it seems likely both brands are encouraging their collaborations. |

Why not start some unfounded rumors. ;) |

Are you saying he either gets paid money, or instead is trained by top players? That's a bizarre contract. |

Brodie is used to the "revenue stream" concept. I doubt his contract includes a salary like Paul or Simon has. I would think Discraft gave him an all you can eat plastic deal, tour stamp disc deal, and a sliding bonus scale based on his performance in actual tournaments. I could also see some kind of long term paid/job media position with the company being hammered out. He has value in both Ultimate and Discgolf.

Or maybe Paul and Simon are trying to better their brand and following from someone who already has a fantastic following and returning the favor by giving Brodie some DG pointers. Seems like a mutually beneficial relationship to me.
