HOD 03/29/13: WR Jackson Memorial DGC (IDGC) in Appling, GA
My first HOD post :) ... love this course!

WR Jackson Memorial DGC (IDGC) in Appling, GA

Rating 4.37 from 26 reviews

Hole #18: plays slightly downhill and then way back uphill, with a dogleg right at the top of the hill

par 5 - 716'

Course Map (it's huge so no pasting in the thread, 18 = top center)

18: teesign:

18: tee looking down fairway (at top of hill, fairway doglegs to the right)

18: basket looking down fairway (from the corner, tee is down hill to the left)

Great finishing hole to a great course! I'd say it's a generous par 5 as a 4 is quite possible for 930+ rated players IMO.

1) I play the relatively safe hyzer shot off the tee to the right (most recently with a hyzerflip seasoned Pro Destroyer).

2) All but the very top pros will be short of the corner and need to play some sort of right finishing shot to hopefully land in the center of the rather large landing zone. Last Saturday I threw a Firebird thumber on a 45angle.

3) If your 2nd shot is in the middle of the fairway, then a good 3rd shot will leave you posted up for a birdie 4. The alley you're shooting down is relatively tight compared to the first part of the hole, but nothing too hard. There is jail on the right and also a slight gap on the left that can be hit as well. I'd say this 3rd shot can be anywhere from 200'-250' depending on how far up the fairway your 2nd shot landed. I'd either backhand an Omega AP or seasoned flat-top KC Pro Roc depending on the distance.

4) Hopefully your 3rd shot leaves you inside the circle for a decent shot at 4. Not too terribly "hard" of a hole, but the shots must be well executed for sure. Putting with a McPro Aviar for my bird.

... anybody think they can eagle? :p

kaiser flippin 03-29-2013 02:11 AM

this is definitely a good one.

first shot: teebird down the right side trying to play a skip up the hill.
second shot: roc, wear depending on lie
third/fourth shot: wizard

dusty5150 03-29-2013 06:49 AM

DX Gazelle off the tee, right side hyzer line,
DX SM Classic Aviar around the corner,
DX SM Classic Aviar approach,
Eraser Wizard as required for clean up.

Brall 03-29-2013 07:22 AM

champ leopard, a lot

Crazy Runner Guy 03-29-2013 07:42 AM

Great hole!

Teebird/Comet down/up the hill, likely x2
Eagle-X flex shot around corner?
Comet from corner in.
Rhyno cleans.

discgolfertub 03-29-2013 07:45 AM

CE Eagle / Stalker

Wizard for the bird.

the Duff 03-29-2013 07:55 AM

I think I'll start with an XL and go from there.

tbird888 03-29-2013 08:31 AM

I think I'd take Dave242's approach to a lot of Idlewild and throw putter > putter > putter > putt

In my case, my putter of choice will be a Pure.

This looks like as much of a punishing final hole as Idlewild's. I've got to head south.

jkdisc 03-29-2013 08:32 AM

buzzz, a bunch of times

rd.bittle 03-29-2013 08:41 AM

Beat DX Leopard. Many, many times. Probably end up dropping it in too.

JSurmann 03-29-2013 08:47 AM

RHBH River down the hill and then RHBH Avenger SS up the hill.

DG addict24 03-29-2013 08:50 AM

Z Xpress over and over

mreynolds24 03-29-2013 08:57 AM

Played this 3 times in a weekend just a couple of weeks ago. 1 bird, 2 pars. Amazing hole for an outstanding course!

For the bird I went:

Shock to the middle, Fuse around the corner, buzzz up, Ion in.

The rest of the time I messed up the tee shot and/or the 2nd shot, and had to grind out my par.

Halcón 03-29-2013 08:59 AM

Looks like a good hole to throw the Tangent on. At least five times.

Scared_Discless 03-29-2013 09:01 AM

MD2 x3 then a putt or two with a challenger to finish.

KatanaFrenzy 03-29-2013 09:28 AM

CE Eagle off the tee. Hyzer flip hitting the left gap.
Champion Firebird for the sidearm up the rest of the hill to the gap.
Sidearm 10th Buzzz for the up shot.
APX for the finish.

smarkquart 03-29-2013 09:40 AM

Teebird than clean up with the Tangent until I can putt.

doctor professor 03-29-2013 09:43 AM

Rival or teebird off the tee then wasp

orion487 03-29-2013 10:22 AM

Hyzer flip a River down the left gap, maybe a buzzz to position the third throw for a run at the basket if I'm lucky. Probably get a 5 if I'm lucky enough to miss the trees.

Disc Fiend 03-29-2013 10:29 AM

River, then Roc, then Wizard.

Exovel 03-29-2013 10:42 AM

Beat DX Raven a couple of times until I get in Dart range.

BogeyNoMore 03-29-2013 10:59 AM

JLS on a hyzer line.
Follow up with some combo of fairway, mid, Challenger, APX... for what I'd be happy to get a 5 on.

RussMB 03-29-2013 11:27 AM

If I was to play conservatively
I'd probably start off with a cobra to the right, work the S with a Buzz and approach with my Rhyno, hole out in 4

All out:
I'd throw a Katana down the left, provided the delayed turnover works, then I'd toss a Boss around the next corner, hopefully the upshot will not be a bad lie, then the Rhyno and a prayer for a long putt to hole out in 3. This is at least how it would play out in my head!

Bobs DG 12 03-29-2013 12:57 PM

1st - Beat Champ Valkyrie
2nd - Firm Ibex
3rd/4th - Ridge to clean up

weeman 03-29-2013 01:49 PM

Honestly, can't remember what I threw when I was there so this is what I'll do next time. Flippy Orc off the tee then probably Teebird/Roc combos to stay in the fairway unless I was feeling saucy and wanted to go with a Wraith for the glory.

bhuff 03-29-2013 01:51 PM

just like I did last weekend. Star destroyer off tee. Aviar/dx roc up to the top of the hill. Had to put a roller down last weekend to get under the basket for my 4 ( hopefully I won't need to use that shot if 2nd shot is good)

b-mart 03-29-2013 03:00 PM

Wow. A worthy par 5.

RHBH a Pure or Buzzz to land somewhere around where it flattens out, then flick a Predator up the hill a couple of times. Clean up with an Anode.

NOStheBOSS 03-29-2013 03:19 PM

this is such a hard hole/course. I believe we took a 4 in team doubles at SECO but it might have been a 5

kingjames1014 03-29-2013 03:21 PM

Avenger ss off the tee.
River second shot.
Ridge approach and putt.

DanJon 03-29-2013 04:02 PM

DX Teebird

Super beat champ eagle L up the hill

Small bead aviar upshot

Wizard putt.

Gnarly hole.

yangs1 03-29-2013 05:34 PM

GL Saint - Roc3 - Pig

yes you do. bring Smokey!!

tbird888 03-29-2013 05:45 PM

You'll be seeing him this summer. That's a promise.

TalbotTrojan 03-30-2013 01:18 AM

I'll probably have the best score if I throw my Ibex until I get close enough to putt.

kutz167 03-30-2013 02:04 AM

Hyzer-flip a Trak just to the right of that tree in the middle followed by most likely an Ibex or Comet for the upshot(s) depending on the required line. Sole to putt out.

JC AceHole 03-30-2013 02:27 AM

Valk, roc, then apx

Qikly 03-30-2013 03:59 PM

VIP Underworld off the tee, Z Comet in the middle, VP to approach, Voodoo to putt.

Discette 04-01-2013 08:11 AM

Champion Valkyrie and/or Leopard a few times and finish with a Dart.

Rocaholic74 04-01-2013 09:58 AM

I think on this one I'm going to throw the River straight down the middle and let it work right to left. Ontario roc for the second shot and go Aviar to finish.

whentherainscome 04-01-2013 10:34 AM

Gonna hyzer flip my seasoned GL River off the and try to drill it straight out to the hillside. Then a anhyzer with an SFD or maybe this super stingray I'm trying otu to get up to a look at it. Magic for an upshot, Pure for a putt.
